The day I go Auto fielding for a baseball game is the day I no longer need a baseball game.

I agree that sometimes the animations are overdone, but as far as the outfielders playing the ricochets off the wall.....in real life outfielders know for the most part which way the ball is going off the wall because they practice that, especially a guy playing in his home park.

IMO, its one of those things you just have to overlook. Could it be done better...absolutely, but I don't think it warrants turning fielding on to auto.

I had the same feeling ... until I tried it.

I could go either way, either auto fielding or manual fielding ... it's not a 'game breaker' for me.

The con is that you have less interaction. The pro is that your fielders are [1] able to make the same quick reaction plays as the AI due to not having a delat waiting to see which fielder you are controlling and [2] your fielders will make similar diving attempts as the AI, which makes that part "equal".

The one thing I will say is to choose one and go with it. I played with auto fielding for a string of games, then switched to manual fielding, and ended up giving up a two run double from a brain fart on a liner to CF as I was waiting for the CF to go get it, and then realized I was controlling him. Duh.

Pick one and go with it.

I love manual fielding and for the most part with Psychos sliders I have really not seen too many issues.

I get the occasional slowmo outfielder animation, and sometimes ball throught the legs, but really nothing else and it doesnt show up very often, maybe every couple games once or twice.

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

I have always used Auto fielding in this game series. Fielding is just terrible since Motion Capture came into play in video games.

But I play it more for sim now than before out of need. When I see Matt Kemp crash into the wall or a flying dive to take away extra bases it makes it all 0k by me. I am happy to use the actual rating of the players rather than my thumb. I don't feel I have the need to make a scrub play like a gold glover or a gold glover a scrub.

Ratings come into play just fine in hitting and pitching while done manually I cant jack every meat ball out of the park with a Pitcher. I cant strike anyone out with my third basemen , so why do I think I need to make Manny ramirez into a Gold glover?

Nah Auto fielding is the only way to play.

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

On double play balls, TWICE, the ss fielded the ball and underhand flipped the ball so high in the air to the second baseman, i didn't even get the force play at 2nd base, much less the double play. And the bases were loaded once.

I don't get it. I'm HOLDING THE BUTTON DOWN and he's doing this weak bs toss. Has anyone gotten annoyed with this new throw mechanic and went with the old one ? Just wondering.

I use auto and love it. Say what you want...but I don't want smoething stupid to happen in the bottom of the 9th to ruin the game.

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

I was up 1 run the other night in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out and the bases loaded. The CPU hits a taylor made double play ball to my second basemen. So I got a double play to end the game.......not so fast my friend. My 2nb throws the ball over the shortstops head and 2 runs score and I lose by 1.

But guess what....that's baseball. I was mad at my 2nd baseman for throwing the ball away but not mad at the game because errors happen. Some of you guys get mad because your fielder makes an error when that kind of stuff happens in almost every game in real life. You can't scream and holler about wanting realism and then when it happens get mad about it. Can't have it both ways.

Major league infielders don't make errors on routine ground balls hit right to them when they don't even have to move. Really how often do MLB infielders let easy ground balls go right through their legs.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

I know I already posted some video evidence in this thread, but this clip from my latest game is just too perfect to pass up. It's a lovely combo of the ball going through Mike Lowell's glove and Jacoby Ellsbury getting stuck in mud on the throw to second, giving Pat Burrell a gift double.

I've noticed that the super-slow throw happens most often when I load a throw to one base, cancel that throw and load my throw to a different base. In this case, I had loaded the throw to the cut-off man, then decided to throw to 2nd instead, and pre-loaded my throw to that base.

As for the "ball through the glove/leg" problem, lowering fielding reactions definitely helps. Well, it doesn't really fix the graphical glitch, it just makes it so your fielder doesn't get to the ball in the first place, or dives instead of trying to make a backhand play. It seems to happen more on grounders to 3rd than grounders to 1st. Hope this helps anyone who might be working on fixing this.
