Just letting you know, you will see more Errors on Auto fielding than you would on Manual or Assisted.

Nice play, Beltre. If only you had a real leg...

It's clear that the problem is graphical. Beltre entered into the "reach for the grounder but not quite get there" animation, but the ball wasn't in the right place. It looks weird, but take comfort in that there's really nothing you can do about it. You weren't supposed to get to the ball in the first place, and if the animations lined up correctly, it would have looked like a clean base hit.

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

That is a good point and makes a lot of sense. How many other animations don't line up correctly? The home plate ump rarely puts the ball in my catcher's hand, but rather magically teleports it from 6 inches away. The first base coach likes to fist bump my guys when they get a base hit, but he must think they all have cooties because he never really touches them. And every time I break a bat, my guy grabs the bat from the bat boy way up on the barrel. A few sliding catch replays will show the ball going right through the outside of the glove into the pocket. It is what it is.

By the way, I have also seen the CPU get in good position and have the ball go right under the glove. It is almost always chalked up as an error though with a mention from the announcers. Someone earlier said that it can't happen to major league players. I guess he never heard of Bill Buckner

This.

It's like how sometimes when the catcher throws the ball down to first after a dropped third strike, the first baseman won't have his foot on the bag. It's not "omg the ump always misses that call"; it's just something you have to overlook. Likewise, these ball-under-the-glove plays are not "omg fielding sucks"; it's just a ball your guy couldn't get to, but the animation doesn't match up properly.

Where do you guys have the setting for Solid Hits? After setting up my slider set with the solid hits at "0", I have noticed far less (as in almost non-existent) issues with the ball-through-the-glove incidents.

I am wondering if the game recognizes a solid hit as a screamer, and thereby causes the ball to get through the fielder based on the hit rating itself versus the occupation of the physical space taken up by the fielder. In other words, the collision detection is over-ridden by the game realizing that the equation of what it feels to be a solid hit is greater than the fielders positioning.

So, by lowering Solid Hits, the fact that the scale is set to zero may help lower the frequency of the ball being allowed to get past the fielders...

Check it out, it may make the game much more interesting for you. I see so many more choppers, bleeders, cue shots off the end of the bat, high chops off the plate...

You still get plenty of balls hit hard, and you still will see monster homeruns go 400+ feet, but it seems like they have to be really well centered, and perfectly hit to travel that far... Hmmm...

syf

I had solid hits at 0 and still experienced these issues, at the same rate as if solid hits were at 5, etc. I now play with solid hits at 1, still experiencing the crappy fielding animations on Manual Fielding, so I have switched to Auto.

That said, I find it way to hard to control the IF, as you just don't have the time to react. I use pitcher view, always have, always will, when on defense. So IF is just about impossible.

I WOULD like to see an option to manually control only the OF and leave the IF on auto

Agreed. That is one major downfall of using Auto-fielding...but to me, the amount of frustrating plays like this are far greater on Manual Fielding, whether its the ball going through fielders or the outfielders sucking into the outfield wall, etc...

The day I go Auto fielding for a baseball game is the day I no longer need a baseball game.

I agree that sometimes the animations are overdone, but as far as the outfielders playing the ricochets off the wall.....in real life outfielders know for the most part which way the ball is going off the wall because they practice that, especially a guy playing in his home park.

IMO, its one of those things you just have to overlook. Could it be done better...absolutely, but I don't think it warrants turning fielding on to auto.
