I use 1 speed and 6 reaction for fielding on manaul? If I went to auto should I switch that?

As far as the animation wherein the guy Spidermans the wall - I've found a lot of success letting off the L-stick early. Like, get to where the ball's going to be, and right before you think you need to, let off the L-stick.

It allows the fielder to decelerate, grab the ball, and toss it back in like he should be able to.

I dunno. I'm torn, hearing that AUTO takes care of the majority of the up-the-line shots. I like fielding for the most part; does my fielding enjoyment trump the frustration and agony of losing a game to one of those mfing linershots? I dunno.
Ya, I started doing that, too...back when I used Manual/Assisted fielding, and it seemed to work, although I wouldn't always do it correctly. But yeah, since switching to Auto-Fielding, these issues have been removed, really helping me enjoy the game more.

Good question. Answer, Auto pilots?

Well, I have been running with Outfielder Speed at 1 and Fielder Reaction at 9. I used this on Manual/Assisted and I am now using it with Auto-Fielding. So far so good!

I really hate the mess ups I get while playing with manual fielding, but I just can't see myself going to auto. I want to play the game, not watch it. IDK, maybe Ill give it a shot. I doubt Ill like it though.

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

I tried manual, if for no other reason than the outfielders on auto way too often make dumb decisions, charging a ball that should be played back and angled at, to prevent extra bases. They don't accept that it is a hit and try to be a hero and the batter gets a double or triple on what should have been a single, if fielded properly.

That said, I find it way to hard to control the IF, as you just don't have the time to react. I use pitcher view, always have, always will, when on defense. So IF is just about impossible.

I WOULD like to see an option to manually control only the OF and leave the IF on auto

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

On a related note to this whole discussion....

Where do you guys have the setting for Solid Hits? After setting up my slider set with the solid hits at "0", I have noticed far less (as in almost non-existent) issues with the ball-through-the-glove incidents.

I am wondering if the game recognizes a solid hit as a screamer, and thereby causes the ball to get through the fielder based on the hit rating itself versus the occupation of the physical space taken up by the fielder. In other words, the collision detection is over-ridden by the game realizing that the equation of what it feels to be a solid hit is greater than the fielders positioning.

So, by lowering Solid Hits, the fact that the scale is set to zero may help lower the frequency of the ball being allowed to get past the fielders...

Check it out, it may make the game much more interesting for you. I see so many more choppers, bleeders, cue shots off the end of the bat, high chops off the plate...

You still get plenty of balls hit hard, and you still will see monster homeruns go 400+ feet, but it seems like they have to be really well centered, and perfectly hit to travel that far... Hmmm...

Re: Giving up on Manual/Assisted Fielding

I'm raising other possible causes for this "ball under-the-glove problem":

1) Fielder Ratings

Anyone checked the Fielding Ratings on the guys who are missing these grounders? My third baseman is my worst fielder. I have played 30 games, and he is the only one who has had balls scoot under him.

2) Good Idea, Bad Execution

Maybe the game is showing--as has been alluded to--a ball that is just a tough play, or was mis-timed. But the graphics don't quite match up with what is intended. Ya know, like the way outfielders morph into the wall or have balls do apparent magic tricks (stuff that does not bother me, since I don't expect video game perfection).
