Could LeBron James compete in the NFL?

    If so, at what position(s)?

Just curious what people think, I had a discussion about this with my step dad. He thinks LeBron would dominate. I'm not so sure about dominate but he could compete at some positions.

Re: Could LeBron James compete in the NFL?

      Absolutely not

I know that he was an all state football player in high school, but in any high school sport physically dominant players will excel.

By the time you get to the professional leagues everyone is a top physical specimen. The difference is that in the pros, you have to be great at the sport, not just athletic.

There are thousands of major college football prospects who dominated high school based on size, speed, and strength who did nothing in college and hundreds who were good to great in college who did nothing in the pros.

Yes, Antonio Gates managed to make it to the NFL, but he played two more years of football in high school and was I believe three or four years removed from playing football. Lebron's highest coaching was one year of varsity football 10 years ago.

Are you asking because he can't win the big one in the NBA?

            Absolutely.

You have to think about this in logical terms....what DB could cover him? The guy is 6'8 with tremendous footwork and athletic ability. You would only have to teach him how to run a skinny post and fade.

I think he could compete as a WR/TE but I don't think he would be dominate.

He would be an incredible TE. Hes kinda big for WR but he could play it.

Monster wide receiver. Then everyone is like "they'll take out his knees". As long as his legs are, it would be extremely dangerous to go at his legs without getting knocked out. Ask Trent Green.

Difference is that LeBron is still a freak, even by professional standards. He is the best athlete in the world. Moss can outrun and out jump pretty much everyone he plays against, even though they're all "top physical specimens". And what are Moss' weaknesses? That he takes plays off, doesn't like contact, doesn't go over the middle, etc. In other words, more typical football skills. Yes, he has good hands but his physical gifts are by far his biggest asset. He's simply faster, taller and can jump higher than any defender he faces, there's a reason why he's always double teamed. LBJ would be the same way.

Hell, everyone knows LBJ's basketball skills and fundamentals aren't top notch, but his bigger, stronger, more athletic than everyone he faces in the NBA which is why he's a stud.

not top notch? What he is one of the best if not the best passer in the history of the league, and he makes incredible shots.

I'm just gonna leave this alone.

We don't really have any idea how fast Lebron is, let alone how he would fare in pads.

Moss may not be Jerry Rice in terms of polish, but he's worlds ahead of Lebron.

Most imoprtantly, we know Moss can catch, get hit, and catch while getting hit. We have no idea if Lebron can do any of those things.

Given that Lebron cries like a toddler whenever someone so much as bumps into him, I highly doubt he'd be able to take an NFL hit.

If he had been playing football all throughout high school and played in college I think there's a good chance he could play in the NFL, but he didn't do that.

I have enough respect for athletes to believe that regardless of physical traits, you can't just compete at a professional level without having played the sport.

Lebron obviously has the "it" factor that it takes to make a great one, I believe had he concentrated on football from the HS level that he'd likely be a star in the NFL. But he didn't and I highly doubt he could make an NFL roster. I cite the example of Brock Lesnar to support this. He too was an elite athlete who was offered a practice squad spot, which would be the best Lebron could hope for.
