Swing = ball... Strike = strike... SPOILER ALERT
Anyone else pick up on this besides me? Throughout the course of the game you will hear a lot of chatter from the fans. Several times a game you will hear a voice (usually a female) say either "swing" or "strike" before a pitch is thrown. If she said "swing" then a ball is coming. If she said "strike" then the next pitch will be a strike. I figured it out and now whenever she says it, I can't help but to know what is coming next. It's not 100% but it is very close.Tags: None -

It's no coincidence at all, I am sure of it. It's gotta be close to 95% from what I've seen. It happened to me on the last game. She said "swing" so I knew a ball was coming. He came with a 12-6 curve that finished just out of the zone. I would have swung and missed, most likely. Kinda cheesy, but it's only a game.Comment

but.... fool. does it occur before or after the pitcher starts his wind up (the fans voice). If after, maybe someone programed a hidden cookie to kick *** onlinejk of coarse.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of those little programming quirks that got through. Once the CPU selects what and where to throw, I'm sure the game already can determine where the pitch is going by just doing the math. Then, the programmer just grabbed that variable from that subroutine and used it in the crowd sound programming without really thinking about it. It really should be programmed to be completely random. I haven't noticed it because I play with just music and sound effects on. Last year, the whole dirt popping up from the catcher moving was completely overdone and telegraphed the location the CPU was throwing.Comment

It happens before. Just before the pitcher goes into his windup. It may not be 100%, but it's very close in my estimation. I've noticed it for a while now, but never really analyzed it. I will look more into it the next few games I play. It's there, regardless of who has noticed it or not.Comment

The devs aren't going to program something like this in the game to "work" like you say, most of the time. You've played 200 games, but noticed it for awhile, but never really analyzed it. If you are seeing it, fine.Last edited by jim416; 07-14-2010, 09:24 PM.Comment

There are plenty of things like this that tip you off to what's coming. Such as the fact you can't make a practice swing when the next pitch is a pitch out.Comment

That's cool, but if you're saying it's not a coincidence, all I'm saying is that pre-dev cycle when the devs sit down and draw up their development cycle game plan for the game, this is not something they are going to say, "hey, let's program a fan yell to tip off a pitch about 90% of the time". If it's there....maybe you can put it in the bugs and glitches thread.
That's all. Don't think most gamers are going to go to an extent to listen for this though.Comment

I've noticed the same thing. Well, I've never noticed the voice that says "Strike" but I have noticed that it seems almost all the time, when I hear the fan say "swing", it's a ball. But it's never really altered my strategy, I never put too much thought into it.Comment

I'd like to see a good, in depth write-up with a larger sample size before I put any stock into this. If it is true, maybe such a write up could also catch the attention of someone who could do something about it.
As of now, It's a coincidence in my book.Comment
