Is it a waste of time to go after a recruit that you're not on their top 10 list?

This is my first go-around with recruiting hardcore on next gen and was wondering if I should even waste my time going after a player that I am listed as N/A on their ranking of my school?

At least in years past, you were able to pull in recruits that originally weren't interested in you. This does not stand for every recruit though. And I don't know of a way to distinguish who you can get other than by spending time calling them and seeing if you show up on their list.

Another recruiting question since everyone here seems to be pretty helpful. If I'm recruiting a player and his "stage" says Top 5, and I'm #8 lets say, does this mean he has eliminated anyone outside his top 5? Do i have a chance to jump back in the mix?
Check out my Tampa Bay Buccaneers CFM Thread.

You too can be a 5* recruit at FSU.......

From what I experienced, yes you still have a shot at going after a recruit. I remembered going after a player that was only interested in the top 5 schools, and I was #9 on his list. I pitched correctly to crack the top 5 but eventually he chose to go to another school. That was from NCAA 10. I would think it's better implemented with NCAA 11 rather than regress or be broken, I'm thinking of picking up the game today.

I've got a couple guys on my board who had no interest when I put them there. 5 weeks into the season i'm in their top 10. I usually put a few 4 or 5 star "longshot" recruits on my board that aren't interested and try to work them. I'll spend 30 minutes a week on them or so. If I haven't gained any interest after 5 or 6 weeks i'll usually drop them and go after somebody else.

It's possible, but seems much more difficult to do in this year's game. It's definitely more of a gamble.

You also used to be able to go into the top 150 players list late in the season and find 4-star players who inexplicably had no offers from other schools. They still exist in this game, but I've been shutout trying to convert them so far in NCAA 11. In years past I'd always get a handful every season.

NEW to this year! The only Top schools designation that doesn't matter is Top 10. When the list is narrowed beyond this you are eliminated from the running with the recruit. This is different from last year when you could sneak back in.

It's a waste depending on the difficulty setting for recruiting. If its All American, I'd say it would be tough. The thing is, if the guy is a small time recruit, and you're a big prestige school you could move your way up with ease compared to a guy who is big name and already looking at big schools.

I was able to land a 4 star, DT that I didn't notice until the third week of the season. I was not in his top 10, but, I had some things going for me.

I'm playing as Clemson, his top school was South Carolina. I used the full hour every week on him, used up my 3 promises, won when he visited (not sure if that still matters), could offer immediate PT (which was his "Most"), and bashed USC at least once a week on anything where I was better at them.

I think the 10th place team was 700 points behind USC when I hopped in recruiting him, and he didn't have any schools recruiting him hard apparently as I was in his top 3 in maybe 4 or 5 weeks.

That said, as with everything else we've learned so far, I'm playing with a prestige of 5 with Clemson. If I was playing as East Carolina, or a school that didn't get pipeline bonuses, I probably wouldn't have had the ability to sign the kid...no matter what I threw at him.

Something I have found is that if you look at the schools a recruit is interested in and none have expressed any interest in him( given him a scholarship, scheduled a visit). If he is still showing interest in his top 10, you can go after him and he may add you to his list.

An example is I am EMU and I went after a 3* WR. I wasnt anywhere on his list. I spent an hour on him offering a scholarship and promises and the week after I was his number 1 school. I have been spending a lot of time on him since and am just about to the point where he will soft commit.

Try it out and see if that works.

Yes. As I said in my first post. The top 10 designation does not matter. All the others do.

If notice a player has a purple diamond icon next to his picture in the player info screen, then you can add him to your recruiting board and you will immediately enter his top ten (even if you weren't before). But I think you can theoretically get anyone as long as you have time to catch up to the other schools. Look for guys that have little interest even in their top school.
