10 of the Most Widely Believed Video Game Urban Legends

Unreality - 10 of the Most Widely Believed Video Game Urban Legends |

I wasn't really sure what forum to put this in. What surprises me is that the Dunk Contest code from NBA Live 97 for the PS1 didn't make it onto that list. There were so many variations of it and it never existed.

WOW.......the only one I even heard of was the Lara Croft nude code for Tomb Raider. But then again I grew up in a neighborhood where video game playing wasn't discussed out in public.

Yeah kiddies back then in the 80s and 1st half of the 90s if you played video games you were considered a nerd. At least that is how it was on the west side of Chicago.

What is that legend about the NBA Live 97? Could you explain that?

Back in Live 97 for the PS1 there was a rumor there was a Dunk Contest hidden in half time of the All Star game if you entered a code at halftime. All the codes involved pressing start which exited halftime but people kept trying.

Where I grew up people were more material. To be considered a cool kid you had to be wearing the latest Jordan's shoes, latest Fubu clothes, gold herring bone around your neck, beeper, smoking black n milds, have access to some Old English, Seagrams or Grey Goose

I gotta ask what age that was at?

I went to a private school, everyone I knew had at least one system. To me it was the norm, but when I found a rare copy of Tecmo Super Bowl II for the SNES I was quite popular.

AH yeah. I remember Sheng Long and nude code. For the longest time we had guys crowding around the SF II machine trying to get to him after than damn EGM issue.

                        "there is no cow level"

Starcraft fans are pretty familiar with that one.

But, really......no mention of Luigi in Super Mario 64?! Or does that not count because it started as an April Fools joke...?

According to the article a couple of those started as April Fools jokes.

Well where I grew up at, in that neighborhood kids starting drinking Grey Goose and Old English at the age of 10. It was easy to access due to the fact there was a liqour store on every corner and the people who owned them didn't care who they sold to as long as you gave them extra money.

It was the same way with black n milds. Just hit up the liquor store and get some black n milds. Kids use to go to school tore up before school started. And on field trips people use to pure old english or grey goose in those 20oz pop bottles. Teachers never knew LOL.

Only 1 I ever heard of was the GTA: SA leatherface/bigfoot one (Also the only one of those games I've ever played). I remember back on the EA NASCAR forums a few years back, people were always asking for the non-existant codes to unlcok drivers who weren't in the game.
