I don't see what everyone dislikes about Elite

I've lurked here for over a year and joined yesterday because the feedback I see for Elite recently has almost all been negative, and that really confuses me.

Live 10 in my opinion was the best basketball game I've ever played. I was not happy when I read that the now named Elite would change to stick controls, but I've come to accept that since we can change to buttons if we like.

I honestly don't see what everyone dislikes so much about Elite. My big problems with the game last year were lack of offline modes and lack of (consistent) control over what moves I did, and Become Legendary and the sticks have seemingly fixed that.

The graphics could use some of the light from Live 10 but they still are the best graphics in Basketball games.

Every dunk in the magic/heat video looked much improved from the previous videos and the previous game. Post game looks more like the competitions which is what people seemed to have wanted. Rebounding looks better, blocks look better. Something such as it not being realistic for Crawford to jump that high shouldn't ruin a game for you, especially when as those that have complained about it even say you can edit verticals.

This is the first try at something completely new in basketball games. Atleast EA trys something new once in awhile. For the past 2 years they've had very different games, while the competition hasn't changed their basic gameplay since atleast 2005. Give the EA team a break, atleast they do something that isn't just adding modes and "legends" or b-list celebrities.

And hey, Elite is adding three things we've wanted for awhile, ESPN presentation, a new commentary team, and Become Legendary. That and completely changing the way basketball games are played, adding all that in a year is a big accomplishment and has gone a long way to, from what very little I've seen, improve the game.

Sadly for EA, Once the competing game revealed MJ as it's cover athlete, the sales "war" was lost immediately once again to gimmicks. However if the reception online was better as I sincerely think it should be, maybe EA would atleast do better than last year sales wise. I don't want to see them lose hope completely and stop making Live/Elite titles, but if they did I certainly couldn't blame them.

What is it that everyone else seems to be seeing that I don't? We're watching the same videos, seeing the same pictures, and reading the same articles. I know the internet is either completely pessimistic or completely optomistic, did everyone just decide this is something we're opposed to?

    Great post.

I know there are a lot more "lurkers" who feel the same way you do. I've received PM's from many saying they love the new direction and can't wait for the demo.

I applaud you for joining the conversation and voicing your opinion

      Not everyone hates it.

I like what I see and am looking forward to it.

It just boils down to tastes and preference.

Everyone has their own..some view things with a more critical eye, others dont, and most are somewhere in the middle.

I think a lot of people are viewing the game and are giving it the opportuinity to sell them.

That's perfectly okay..thats what being a consumer is all about.

A game can have all the bells and whistles but if it isn't fun, what is the point? I am looking forward to the Elite demo. That is when I will make my real judgment....

Re: I don't see what everyone dislikes about Elite

I don't know about MJ being the cover athlete....i don't really care in that regards.

But to have him in the game with other classic teams is totally awesome IMO. It just adds replay value to the game for me......don't get me wrong today's players and teams are cool but possibility of playing with legends like Jordan, Dominque, Ewing and Isiah is cool as hell.

Also, It's not that a lot of people are hating on Elite or dislike Elite....i think most of them just were expecting greatness or another stepup from Live 10.

Some people will consider it an improvement others will view it as a step backwards. My biggest complaint with Elite is animations.....i've never really gone crazy over graphics, controls, shoes and tatoos. Not that i don't care about those things but i just feel like a game should move/animate more realistic and that is where i'm more down on Elite than anything.

i agree with playmakers, from what i have seen the game just looks very bland... having said that, i'm still going to try the demo

I'm sure EA know's the term BOTTOM LINE....and the bottom line is this they really need to LISTEN to their consumers on want they really want...

Not a new gimmick or whatever else...Pull someone from the OS forum real early in production for their input and not a next yr implementation.....

Lastly, practice what you preach "If it's in the game well put it in the damm game"

So you, being a obvious NBA Live supporter, are asking that people have a optimistic view of NBA Elite? Yet, you have already written off 2k as a gimmick game with no improvements....completely takes the credibility out of your post.

Why arent (most) people seeing what your seeing? b\c they arent waving the flag of either company like you are with EA. People have their opinions. Any one who was here last year knows a large part of out community enjoyed Live 10 and had hopes for Live 11....

You dont need to be a mascot.

I for one love the direction this game is going, and i see nothing but POTENTIAL and better results. I mean everything is controlled by you, you have no excuses, maybe they lack some animations but i bet by Elite 12 that won't even be a problem. This control scheme and physics engine with more varied and signature animations can only take this game even higher.

With the amount of control we have over every move it would be so crazy if they actually added signature moves to all those areas, which im sure they are capable of doing.

Imagine sig moves in this game, all user controlled (Just an Idea) :

-Sig dribble - (left/right hand, spins, in an outs, behind the backs, left to right crossovers, hesitations) and it would all be one-to-one from what your doing on the sticks, not just watching the crossover play out.

-Sig shots - (reg jumpshots, standing fades to the left, right, or back, drifting running fades, left/right hand layups, dunks, runners, pro hops, pro hop spins, euro steps) all being controlled by the same control scheme

-Sig Post moves - (Left/Right hooks, Up and unders[choosing finishing hand], 2 step gathers, 1 foot gathers, shoulder fakes, drop steps, spins, sky hooks, fadeaways) with physics that would be beyond authentic

-Sig Physics - The way Chauncey Billups pushes his weight on you in the post looks alot different then how Yao would push him elf up against you. Even Kobe, he sort of booty bumps when using his strength in the post. Just make the weight and strength still matter but just have more authentic animations for how they shove eachother.

Even on Defense, Artest plays you differently in the post then T-mac you can see the physically difference, but you could how that with sig animations. the way the players react with eachother physically should look different from an animation standpoint

And even add personality to the players, from their on court reactions and all that, just to make the game authentic. Those are just a few ideas i see this game could take advantage of

I mean the comp. does alot of this but i think with Elites skill factor and user control it could take this game over the top, and make it look authentic at the same time.

All this sounds good but the reality is, it probably won't never come to reality.

This statement just drives me nuts is when some say wait till next year. After several years on "Wait till next year" I've come to the conclusion, especially when it comes to EA and B-ball that when talk like that phrase comes up it's simply a "PIPE DREAM"

Still would like to see the things you mentioned but not counting on it. Peace!!!

been playing live for years and after playing the 2k demo multiple times i dont see what the hype about 2k is. elite is going to be better, you dont have good control of the player in 2k. in elite/live you can control your player well

Re: I don't see what everyone dislikes about Elite

I have to admit that I was completely amped to download the 2K11 demo this morning. I even contemplated staying up late in order to download it. The intros looked cool, the player models looked good, so I was getting really excited...

Until I won the tip off and I had to move with Derek Fisher. I moved the joystick to the left, and Fisher reacts about a second after I move the stick. I said immediately, "Nope, 2K is not going to get me..." I now remember why I never really loved 2K8.

I am very excited for Elite's demo to be honest. Very excited. 2K11 is the same thing, but with a new cover of MJ. Do I like that concept? Absolutely. For Elite to keep up (or beat 2K), they need to do a few things:

Better marketing: Put out videos not of simple highlights, but show more 5 vs 5 gameplay. I don't care too much to see Wade in a practice facility doing crossovers. I can do that at the YMCA. Show me how Elite has progressed, what the gameplay looks like.

Commentary: I love the new switch, but thus far I haven't been too impressed. Van Gundy is a maniac when he speaks, and is always excited, so replicate that in Elite. That's what makes it feel more authentic. 2K's commentary got better because it sounds as if they are actually on the sideline together having a conversation.

Presentation: Won't say too much here, but pleeeeeease add a new intro. I'm tired of seeing some guy go in for a lethargic layup while jogging back to the rebounding line or the spin move where he chucks it off the glass and it doesn't even go in! What about showing guys stretching, or Dwight taking post ups with a trainer, or someone feeding Kobe balls as he's moving? Have the commentary team talk about the previous matchup, or about a great performance someone had. There's so much you could do here to make it feel more alive.

That's just a quick post (lol), but I will probably post later. I'm pumped for elite!

Let me get this straight. Have you played 2K9, 2K10???? If not how do you know the game is the same?
