Here's another Demo Game I played, with some audio commentary.

User Control Is getting good, but the CPU Offensive AI, went nutso.

On the flip side, I think the CPU Defense is excellent.

What do you guys mean by “don’t play video games, play basketball”?

Part of the reason I stopped playing video game basketball is because all of the franchises basically turned into run and gun dunk fests. No strategy, just how fast can I throw the outlet pass and dunk in transition. I could own people without ever running a single set. Well, I see the exact same thing in this game and I saw the same thing the 2K demo. So in my mind nothing much has changed. I can dunk on people in traffic, I’m always looking for the fast break. EA has toned down the run and gun by removing the sprint button (bad decision IMO).

My issue with the crossovers and spin moves etc. is that none of them are explosive moves. When I crossover in real life I do it with velocity and POWER. You don’t just step in front of me when I crossover because 1. You will get there late and 2. You will knocked the **** over.

I haven't gotten a chance to play the demo yet but I just watched the craziness video of someone playing the demo and Bynum just standing in the middle of the court!

I honestly don't think this game was made with ANY intention of USER v CPU games..................
I feel the same. this game was made for the online community and that is evident. It was not made for offline gamers and that is my biggest gripe with this game.

I feel this game has the potential to excel user vs. user, but if that really is an area of emphasis they better have made HUGE improvements to their online setup from last year.

The online setup was so bad last year they didn't even have fatigue.

They need to open up the transistion game because the half court sucks like I've been saying....

I'd rather the AI look to run on me than set up in the halfcourt because they are absolutely HORRIBLE!

There is no game speed slider not sure why EA.....but honestly believe this game will play better atleast for this year if it geared towards playing a Phoenix, New York or Golden St style of play.

Hey it is what it is and I've always tried to edit the game to play SIM style or to it's strength and this year IMO uptempo is how you'll get the best gameplay with Elite 11

The controls will allow the user to do some pretty amazing looking things in transistion off the dribble and the CPU doesn't have to get bogged down into a halfcourt set as much. They can operate on the fly more taking quick shots or getting points in transistions. I don't mind the dunks because the layups look horrible by them half time.

I wish stepsix could find away to fix the CPU fastbreak make them attack the rim out of the box or more aggressive getting to the basket when in the open floor.

Maybe boost up their offball awareness which helps their ability to recognize scoring chances quicker or make their fastbreak logic more important than their DNA logic in those situations..

I had no intentions of playing the game this way back in the summer but after the demo IMO i think it's the best way offline to enjoy the game and just have fun because it limits the amounts of those weird animations you see and stops the CPU AI from going totally brain dead in halfcourt sets.

Not saying this style of play is for everyone but keep in mind those teams mentioned by me attract lots of fans because their uptempo style of play wide open offense that forces other teams to play their style aswell.

So for me if EA can just get the AI to function better in the open floor i'll be ok purchasing game knowing ahead of time it's not a SIM and wasn't created to be a SIM this year.

I'll tweak the playbooks insert more quick plays that adjust the CPU halfcourt logic fire away with open shots right away, ISO's for star players, quick post up's for inside scorer's. No sense in editing it to play halfcourt when the AI won't adapt very well to it.

Thats exactly what I am going to do with the CPU playbooks also. Quick screen plays, isos, high post isos, and post ups.

The CPU does not recognize switches off of pick and roll...and the more they have to swing the ball around, the worse it is.

I know it's supposed to make it more dynamic and "skill based" but it just feels wrong/broken. Steals should be based on the defensive players abilitiy, the offensive players ball security (ball handling rating, ball security rating, etc) and the gamer's timing.

The competition has a pretty decent version of this system in their game this year, and it sure feels dynamic and skill based to get poke steals and rips in traffic. The more skilled user who makes timely reaches with the right defenders will be more successful 10/10 times.

Ripping Rondo with Bynum is completely ridiculous, but easily doable in Elite 11. Please.

I remain baffled by the decision making process that went into creating this game. They just keep insulting every fan with a high basketball IQ. I'm starting to feel like I wasn't their target demographic with this game, which is ridiculous as a die hard NBA fan.
Another spot on evaluation. Stats will never be realistic with this game. The numbers need to be right.

If you know how to use the controls then you wouldn't let that happen...sure the animation for the hook shot looked bad but I don't understand why you are upset about the hook itself...it that unrealistic? Of course but just don't make your player do it then...

Hook shot is a viable scoring weapon from the 3pt line and that's kinda crazy, don't have a capture card but others have recorded this so it can't be just me that connects them

#2 Going back a few months I remember the developers saying somewhere that they wanted to go back to what was one of the most enjoyable Live games in there minds, Live 2005, and start over from there with the Elite series. That right there, to me, tells me they wanted to bring the fun back to basketball games before they nailed down the sim aspects of the game. Thats exactly what they did with this first outing...Go fire up Live 2005 and tell me if it had all the sim features that everyone whats in todays basketball games? No it doesnt, but its fun as hell to play...isnt it??? If we want a sim game we have 2K for that but I'll tell you what, I might have more fun just playing a mindless up and down the court, breaking guys ankles with awsome controls and jumpin 54" inches in the air, good time game like Elite.
Now I'm not saying Elite is better than the "other" game but it is it's own game, and I feel we need to treat it as such this year and maybe next as not a contender for a basketball sim, but as an all out fun game to play. I'm still getting both games this year like always and when I need a break from all the worrying about running an offense, setting up rotations and all the other sim stuff, I will pop in Elite and have a good time with it.
One more note, I believe this is the same way people felt about NHL 07 when they changed the game up and I believe some people (writers, reviewers, web sites) Called it the sports game of the year in 2010!!! Just keep that in mind for Elite.
I have no problem with that but they should call it like it is and take out all mention of a NBA simulation in their marketing - and if people still want to buy it knowing that - then more power to EA and the buyer. But then again, I thought that was what NBA Jam was for.

For example what if Off the Ball awareness is no longer in the game then how would you fix the AI's half court offense?

For dribbling you can lower all the ball handling skills down for big guys like Bynum and Shaq to make them basically struggle to handle the rock....

But for a guy like Chris Paul i'm guessing he's already a 99 in that category and i don't think there is anything that can be done to make Paul go behind the back or between the legs being controlled by the AI

I didn't see any game speed slider so you are basically at EA's mercy when it comes to player movement (sliding/Rocket Dunks/fast animations)...you can probably still tweak speed, quickness ratings to make things look a little more fluid doing animations but again there would have to be some kind of speed slider to balance it out IMO.

They said verticals weren't going to be touched because they made them that way by design.

It's kinda hard to say how the game would play without really knowing what ratings they left in the game and removed. From the look of the sliders it wouldn't surprise me if they removed a handful of ratings making most of it become tied into USER control

The sliders appear to have been removed because of that approach....CPU won't execute very well in the halfcourt set right now based on the limited amount of sliders to customize the game.
As was probably said many times through the years but you Playmaker are the type of designer that these folks should be hiring. You definetly understand what the problems are.

Also in the retail/final version....this game will be a 'tweakers' dream. Just imagine what can be done with global/user/cpu slider edits. Playmakers, Tomba....do you hear me?!?!

While this game is far from perfect but I love the direction that EA has taken with this game. It feels fresh and new (something that hasn't been said about an NBA video game in a few years now).

I had planned on purchasing both NBA games this year but for the moment I think I'm just going to go with Elite because the new control mechanism will keep my interest far longer than the typical button-style controls.

Throw in NBA JAM and it's a wrap.
But the question is, do the sliders, ratings etc really mean anything - do they have a tangible effect on the players/gameplay. I suspect a lot of the sliders and ratings on both games are just there for placebo effect. For example, I think the 2k game has hidden ratings -why are the ratings hidden?

Every since they installed DNA the fastbreaks have been the biggest down fall of the new addition......everyone seems programmed to revert to DNA tendencies and not run the break properly at all. It also doesn't help that EA seems to code this game to deliberately not allow fast breaks

Last Year they had every single player in the game rated 0 for fast break anticipation...i still believe that code was used to allow the DNA to have precedence over the fast break logic of the players in order to keep it from becoming a unrealistic dunk fest on the break.

Sounds like a good idea but it destroyed the way players behaved on the break
It is intuitively obvious to people like you and me what the problem is - why can't the designers see it. And to the the developers - we
