First things first, the good. The graphics are beautiful. The lighting is awesome and the grass looks great. I love that they brought in the ESPN style themes in the pre-game and during quarter changes. The running looked a little smoother as did the tackling. As a FSU fan, I'm pretty sure I'll always play the Osceola/Renegade spear plant when there is a big game (rivals or top 10 opponent) because it really does kind of get me pumped.

But that's as far as I can praise. While it's nice to get some presentation upgrades with the ESPN graphics, it still isn't very broadcast-like because the replays themselves are not broadcast style. When they decided to add those unrealistic replays last year, I hated it because I knew it killed any chance that replays would ever feel like a broadcast. That's the area in presentation where the 2K franchise shines in basketball, as it really does feel like watching a TV broadcast replay. But having cameras near the players feet, looks silly IMO and really just makes me want to skip all replays. Even more, they cut from one angle to another angle right as the play ends. That's what you would find in a trailer of a video game, not a broadcast style replay. I don't get why they are trying to add arcade replays while at the same time going for sim presentation. You ruin the sim with the arcade replays.

The gaps between commentary are head-scratchingly huge, but that's been the case for awhile now. I would have traded the pre-game introductions for all new-seamless commentary. It's really the same old boring, non-dynamic, hardly aware commentary system of the past decade. I'm pretty confident now that, like physics, it won't ever change this gen for EA.

The dreads are weak and the crowd didn't sound anymore aware of what is going on than they have in past games. I guess I can wait until the demo to fully test out the crowd awareness, but it wasn't an improvement from what I saw. Really, it seems like the same game from last year, gameplay/presentation wise with a few improvements that are noticeable while in game. No stat overlays. No stat comparisons. Not commentary on the stats. No matchup analysis, or rivalry analysis, or anything like that. It still doesn't play like a broadcast game (and we all know its possible for video games to play like one). I just wish they would go to youtube, and copy everything they see from a ESPN game, from the replays to the stats to the player introductions (introducing the lineups by showing player faces, hometown, class, and size) on that teams first offensive/defensive drive. Running still looks robotic as does the player interactions and celebrations. Oh well.

Looking forward to offline dynasty announcements. I spend 95% of my time there. I'll still buy the game because I love college football and need my fix but I don't really feel all that excited about the purchase. I guess I have just accepted that this is about what I should expect nowadays on this gen when it comes to football games.
