Rhetoric?!? I'm not the one that's sucking hard on Bill James Theory.....nor was I the one to claim his methods won 2 championships for Boston. Plus, I asked first Pielet....where is your proof of this happening?

PS- In MY MLB history book......there was a strike right before the 2005 WS started ....so it stands as vacant... ....LOL

How about the fact that the GM and the owner of Red Sox said so? WTF do they know?!?!

Bill James inspired 28yr old wunderkid is hired as a GM and a franchise who didn't win squat for a long time suddenly wins 2 World Series? I guess its coincidence......

The only "coincidence" is that year in year out they (redsox) have ripped a page out of the evil empire "how to outbid everyone else for superstars" handbook...of course their going to say so......they have to get something out of their consulting fees paid.

This is a team sport, from the GM to the trainers, it's all about the right chemistry and putting the right working parts the fit the puzzle together. And while I do believe pitching is the most important part, it needs a well balanced team to succeed .....just ask reigning AL CY Young winner King Felix.....

I will say that Bill James theory has made teams aware of other important stats....other than HR, RBI, AVG., Wins, ERA and saves and this information is taken in consideration by GM's when they assemble teams....but there is no way to certify this has a direct affect on championships.

If that's the case the white sux would not choke away the AL Central to minnesota every year......cause one thing I'll say about the southsiders....no one is harder at work than kenny williams, specially before the trade deadline.....I wish our dumb *** GM would be half as busy....But one thing he can't include in his trade is the chemistry or hot streaks usually involved with teams that win it all.

Back when the Yankees were winning all those Championships there were no restrictions on signing young players, and teams couldn't compete with the big market Yanks. And what young prospect wouldn't want to play in the most vibrant city with the Babe, Mick or Bumpin' Joe? The amateur draft eventually came along and evened things out. So how many World Series did they win after the draft - and before free agency came along? Zero.

LOL, this is like debating religion - it will go on & on forever. That's why we buy these games, so we can do it our way so have fun with it. And by the way nice Avatar.

Huh? What about 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009? And to disprove Cyphre's point the late 90's teams were pretty much home grown talent the Yankees had. In fact when the Yankees started buying free agents like they were going out of style was when they STOPPED winning.

You are right it is like arguing about religion. We all LOVE baseball clearly though, we can agree on that!

and thanks to Muka, we can all enjoy PYS 2011!

Yet you follow a team that was owned by a corporation (Tribune) and has one of the largest payrolls in the National League. Isn't that a little hypocritical? Say what you want about Steinbrenner, but he at least put his money where his mouth was and spent money INTO his team, not pulling it OUT like the Cubs have traditionally done.

Of course it is. Ask King Felix how park factors fits into his lower numbers, but good pitching is essential in playoff series baseball. Without it you are dead.

and the White "Sux" at least won a title within the last 100 years........

First off, The Cubs "big spending" started with the worst signing in MLB History (Soriano)....when they made the mistake of not signing Beltran..... Hendry felt like an dumb *** and spent more on a guy that didn't fit, has always been overrated and came off a career year.....so they needed to spend more on other players to make that investment look good....prior to that the Cubs wouldn't spend money on their own bubble gum.

Second thing is I actually admire Steinbrenner......he was a visionary and he put the Yankees back on the map.....he turned the evil empire franchise into a "priceless" one......that produces more money than any other sports franchise at least here in US...That's why I was hoping Mark Cuban would've bought the Cubs...just look at what he has done with the Mavericks.....It's his GM who was the lil devil on the shoulder that convinced him that outbidding other teams was the way to build championship teams and have made more terrible free agent signings than good ones....Burnett, Pavano, Vazquez and that Arod ridiculous contract...to name a few.

Last but not least....I don't recall the Sux winning any title.....like I said..2005 was vacant in my book...I do know they are the only team to go to trial for throwing away a WS.....1919...remember?...plus no matter how many titles they win.....they will ALWAYS be like a second class citizen in CHITOWN.....because its ALL about the Cubs there.....

The 90's Yankees were the last teams of that franchise that I admired....they only have Posada and Jeter left.....and they are going downhill....sad to watch their careers come to an end with all that drama surrounding them.....but those were great players on great teams......But along came the spending that made every other team think they had to spend to compete.

Now about the "we LOVE baseball".....you finally say something we can agree 100%.....baseball is more than a sport to me.....it's a way of life........CHEERS!!

2005 is vacant? What the hell does that mean? The White Sox had a hell of a season in 2005, capped off with an almost perfect postseason. All while your Cubs were sitting @ home twiddling their thumbs. Th Cubs couldn't win when they didn't spend $ and they still can't win even when they do spend $. The people running the team are as clueless as the people filling the seats in Wrigley Field. Us Sox fans may be second class citizens, but atleast we're not a second class organization.

And as for the Black Sox, gambling and game rigging were all over baseball @ that time. Hell, the league didn't even have any kind of authority until Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis was hired in 1920. He then proceeded to make an example of those players, even though they weren't the first to do such a thing. It's even been said the men got the idea from your precious Cubs who "lost" the World Series in 1918 to the Red Sox.

And here comes the peanut gallery!!!!!..........

1918 Cubs did not go to trial.....1919 SSSUUUUUXXXXX did.....that should clarify who the clueless ones are.....

And a bad day at Wrigley will ALWAYS be better than a WS clinching day at Cum****ty Park or whatever they call that parking lot now a days....

As a SUX fan....does it hurt that the bartman incident got more media attention than the SUX in the WS?.....I mean if you ask the people in chitown what year was the last that the SUX won it all half them won't remember.....but mention bartman and the can recall where they where, what they were doing....the exact time it happened, his old residential address and his entire profile ....to include social security number, credit card info and access pin codes.......AMAZING how much pull a second class organization has in my beloved windy city......GO CUBS GO!....

Enjoy the dump known as Wrigley. Enjoy the open minded neighborhood it sits in. Enjoy the concrete that randomly falls off the dilapidated stadium. Most of all enjoy the lovable loser fans who really don't care about baseball other than hitting the Cubby Bear after the game.

Cubs fans may remember where they were with Bartman, but they conveniently forget Kerry Wood getting beaten the next night and Dusty basically ruining Woods and Priors careers.

So they trade away hall of famer Lou Brock. So they trade away hall of famer Bruce Sutter. So they let future 1st ballot hall of famer Greg Maddux walk. At least with the Sutter trade they got Leon Durham who allowed a ground ball through his legs in game 5 when the 84 Cubs blew a 2-0 lead on the Padres.

or to quote the last great Cubs superstar when he appeared before Congress: "No Hablo ingles"

Nope, in 1983 I saw Ron Kittle win Rookie of the Year while winning ugly. Been a fan ever since. Then the 90's hits and the best pure hitter I have ever seen comes to the White Sox. Frank Thomas was an awesome player.

The Big Hurt was a great player.....but all joking aside I think the sox did him wrong towards the end.....he's one of the players you wish would play his career with one team.....

Like Pujols.....I think I'm the only Cubs fan that wishes he stays with STL.....don't get me wrong....I would love for him or any other player of his caliber to play for my team....who wouldn't?.....but he's one of those special players .....a throwback if you will....like Jeter, Ichiro, Edgar Martinez, Bernie Williams.....players that I can't picture for the life of me wearing any other uniform. Frank Thomas was one of those and a sure HOF in my eyes...

....you can put that on the board........DAMN, I hate that catch phrase.....lol
