Out of the Shadows and Into the Spotlight: A St. Louis Rams Franchise

Out of the Shadows and Into the Spotlight:
A St. Louis Rams Franchise
(2011)

August 28, 1999:
"Obviously this is a critical time for us. Trent Green looked good in his first three games, and you can't account sometimes for these freak accidents. Harrison gave Green one of those big hits that sometimes, yes they can be avoided, but I believe stuff like that happens in the game. The Chargers have always been a competitive team, even in the pre-season, so you can't blame them for getting their season mode on against us. Green has a torn ACL that will put him down for the year, and we're going to let Kurt Warner get a try. This team will compete no matter what happens."

-Coach Dick Vermeil on Trent Green's injury following 24-21 win over Chargers

August 29, 1999:
"Warner is going to be the #1 Quarterback on the depth chart, and we'll rally around Kurt Warner and we will play good football. Losing Green is a very big loss for us, but this is football. Face adversity and obstacles and take home big prizes."

-Coach Dick Vermeil on selecting Kurt Warner as the Rams starting QB

Rams won the Super Bowl in 1999 and all was good. That was until...

September 7, 2003:
"Being with the Rams organization for so long, I realize that sometimes your time is up. Kurt didn't look good out there and unfortunately we're going to sit him and help him clear his mind a bit. Anytime you fumble seven times in a game, it starts to affect you the rest of the way, and we don't want Kurt to keep his mind wrapped around this performance. So for now we have Marc Bulger starting and we'll see what happens."

-Coach Mike Martz on sitting Warner in place of Bulger

Rams would go to the playoffs twice with Bulger, but again too many injuries helped derail a promising career....

April 22, 2010:
"With the 1st pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select...Quarterback Sam Bradford from the University of Oklahoma!"

And so here we are...

2010 was a small preview of bigger things to come for the St. Louis Rams. They went 7-9 with Bradford as their every week starter after going 1-15 the previous season. In a very weak NFC West division, the Rams would end up being forced into a final showdown with the Seattle Seahawks for not only the NFC West crown, but a trip to the playoffs. Unfortunately the Rams went on to lose to their rivals, and all that came out of the season was renewed hope, and a Rookie of the Year QB in Sam Bradford. Now the Rams look to pick up where their season hung last year, and finally start getting back to playing playoff caliber football....Out of the Shadows of Warner and Bulger..And Into the Spotlight with Sam Bradford!
