AROUND THE LEAGUE

If Madden NFL 12 cover athlete and Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis are to get to the playoffs this season, they will have to do so without contributions of two of the key cogs of their team. All-Pro OL Joe Thomas will miss the entire season on Injured Reserve, as he suffered a broken tibia this week against Detroit. Teammate and fellow OL Eric Steinbach will miss eight to ten weeks with a broken hand as well.
Though it's still too early to draw any firm conclusions, the early returns indicate that Dolphins QB Chad Henne will thrive in Brian Daboll's new offense. In limited action across two games, Henne has tossed passes for 451 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception. Further, his current pass completion percentage (63%) and yards-per-attempt (7.1) are above his career highs. Obviously the regular season grind will prove Henne more than any preseason action will, but the early results look promising.
Wade Phillips has the Houston Texans' new 3-4 defense firing on all cylinders already. OLB Marion Williams, Brooks Reed, and Connor Barwin have already racked up a combined 11.5 sacks in limited action. Reed in particular has been the most impressive, collecting 5.5 of the combined total. Though there is still work to be done - the Texans currently rank 15th in total yards allowed and has only forced three turnovers - there are certainly signs of improvement to build upon.
