    Retro PC Gaming Thread

A great thread on the Non Sports Gaming forum is the NES/SNES Thread that brought back some great memories from my childhood. There is also a thread that just started up about whether players prefer PC or Consoles. It got me thinking today about what type of player I am and I seem to have always flip flopped between the two.

It wasn't until my parents (foolishly) bought me a computer for college (you can see where this is going) that I really got into PC gaming. I would spend entire nights customizing Neverwinter Nights games and outfitting my Sid Meier Golf courses to perfection. I was remembering these days and decided to go and check out GOG.com (GOG=Good Old Games) which is kind of like Steam but for retro PC games.

I started clicking through the games catalog only to find some all-time classics that I wasted many hours on. You would think I would have learned my lesson about the time I wasted in college but sure enough I wanted to 'see how it worked' and have just bought Rollercoaster Tycoon (another all-time classic game) for $3. Why I do this to myself I don't know but there is just something about these old PC games that will keep me a PC gamer until artritis/dementia kicks in.

Here are some of my all-time PC favs.

Can't forget this classic, I think this is what started it all !!! I think this was the first game I ever played on a PC.

I pretty much bought every game Sid Meier made in the 90s. Also was a fan of the Jane military theme games series. Absolutely loved Wing Commander 1 through 4. Hated Wing Commander 5.

Sim golf was great. I also had a great time with Roller Coast tycoon 1 and 2. Recently I keep trying to play X-Com but it's just hard to do with so much other stuff around.

I will always have X-Com loaded up on every computer I have, even if I don't get a chance to play it that often.

I never got a chance to play this game but always remember hearing good things about it.

Some other ones that I missed:

Check out that box. The first 12 Megabit game, lol.

and finally. My biggest gaming tragedy.

There are 100s more but those are just the ones off the top of my head.

Also in my "cleaning of the attic" I found a box full of old PCGamer Demo disks... lol

Those old giant boxes remind me of when I would go to Babbages and see them all lined up. Took up about half the store but damn they looked good.
