[How to] avoid network drops when playing online

Just a heads up,

Many guys have seen the network drops when playing friends and randoms online. Well, it seems like we now know the cause.

When someone changes any play in their playbook in 2k12, the NEXT game the person tries to play will always be dropped, randomly, for what seems like nothing related to lag and/or your connection. I believe the only way to avoid this would be to completely log out of 2k's servers (essentially quit the game or log out of XBL, not sure about PSN) and then log back in.

Many of the guys that I play specify plays when they first begin a game. This will not hinder the first game but will drop all subsequent games until you've "reset" your connection to 2k.

Please, let me know if this works for you. Try playing games ONLY with the default playbooks if you plan on playing a few consecutively.

This has since been fixed by the recent patch yet network drops seem to continue. Please read the following:

The more information people can provide here, the better. I can't continue to stress that enough.

Here's a quick format of how you can help provide feedback:

Error Type - No Players Remaining or Network Connection Error.
Game Type - VS in Locker Room or VS Quick Match
Qtr. Length (If Custom)
Teams chosen
Did you change your defensive settings?
Did you use the quick defensive changes that are new this year? (Left on DPad)
Did you use a different camera angle from default?

Any other info. is very helpful and will only help us all out in the long run.

Does not work all the time. I get drops on the first game of the day with no playbook changes at all. To me it just seems kind of random.

Either way though, that is BS.

This works. Proven. However, if you're changing something else I can't help you there.

And the last part is not needed - we're all looking for a solution and that does not help.

It BS because it is. You are basically saying, you are not allowed to change anything at all. C'mon P. I got it, something is screwing it up... i dont know what it is. End of that.

Heat @ Hawks (Locker Room game: All-Star, 12 min, Sim mode) both players started from dashboard.

No changes before game

Tip was smooth, connection looked good

After 1st possession , away team changes only coach settings (timeout, subs to manual, play vision to full, offense plays on auto) and coach profile (defense pressure lowered to 80 from 99)

After 2nd possession home is now changing coach settings (timeout, subs to manual, play vision to full, offense plays on auto)

Two possessions go by; away team changes defensive settings from default (auto everything) to:

All players on moderate (on ball) and tight (off ball)
All screens on (go over)
All hedges on (no hedges)

Game drops a minute or so later, no lag beforehand, straight drop with the countdown box pop up… then states no players remaining.

Clown.

This fix works - in your case - it keeps coming back to you changing something on the defensive adjustments which you've told me you always do.

Don't do it and report back. I never make those changes so I don't experience the same.

Pacers @ Cleveland (1st game of the day for both users)

Drop in 2nd quarter with 6:47 left

Only changes that were made from both users were:

Camera to 2k
Coach settings:
Timeouts/Subs to manual
Play-vision to Full
Offense Plays to Auto

Have no clue on what it is... no defensive changes this time, I was too afraid the game would bomb if I did change them.

Connection was very smooth, no hiccups, just a straight pop up box (no players remaining), kick back to locker room. Both players still online in party after 2k bombed, so connections are still "good".

That's not the same thing as a network drop from the server.

Is that the message you received? This would be a different thing altogether.

No inbound plays, I did change the new (OTF) defensive quick settings now that I think about it. In the 2nd quarter too, did not do it in the 1st at all. IIRC I called "constant pressure".

Yep, we get the countdown timer, then the "no players remaining" message.

If you can, try to not do that. I do not utilize those as well.

See if you can get through a game without using that.

Like I mentioned via IM, those settings may be part of the problem once changed.
