Any news at all regarding a new college game?

Haven't heard a thing. Is EA just focusing on Elite and will maybe do one in 2013? Is 2k still definitely out of the picture?

My guess is, we'll see them sometime next generation of consoles (so probably 2-3 years from now). I doubt any developers want to develop an engine for it, and then have to ditch it the next year.

I just can't get myself to believe we have lacrosse, rugby, and bowling video games, but no one is willing to try and develop a college basketball game. I'd be really surprised if we don't see a college basketball game in the next 5 years.

problem is if its not 2k how long will it take them to better than 2k8? another 5 years?

I'd certainly hope not. 3 things are essential for a good college basketball game.

1) Recruiting
2) Coaching Carousel
3) Gameplay

I'd imagine the gameplay wouldn't be too bad, considering they'd be at least 5 years after 2k8's release. The Coaching Carousel feature is in NCAA Football, so they'd likely have it in a basketball game if there was one. Recruiting is the tough one, because EA hasn't been able to get it down quite right with NCAA Football yet.

I can't imagine it'd be hard for 2k to make a college basketball game better than 2k8. If they used the gameplay and polished graphics from 2k12 and just put in all the old stuff from 2k8, I'd pay $60 for it.

This is where I have trouble understanding why they won't make a CH's game. The gameplay engine is already there. Seriously, you wouldn't need to change anything at all. The legacy mode is in place, but I wouldn't say no to a couple of adjustments. The only things they really would have to deal with is a) uniforms, stadiums (I wouldn't even mind if they just used generic stadiums with correct logos), and rosters (even here, why not just put a bunch of generic players down? Let the community do it). b) the license between them and the NCAA.

I wish someone from 2K would give us an explanation as to why they don't give it a shot, but I doubt we'll ever get one. With their NBA game doing so well, I'm amazed they haven't brought it back at this point. Anyone have any idea when the licensing agreement for college basketball is up between EA and the NCAA?

I think I've read on here that there isn't really a licensing deal between the NCAA and EA exclusively, and that 2K could have made a game if they wanted to as long as they paid the CLC fee. It was my understanding that the CLC pricetag was too high and the game wouldn't be able to turn a profit. It sucks, but I can't blame 2k for not putting out a game that loses money, no matter how good the game is.

According to what I was just reading - EA doesn't own exclusive rights to NCAA Basketball - only NFL & NCAA Football. 2K walked away from NCAA because they didn't want to make the games, as they felt there wasn't enough money to be made on an NCAA game. Seems odd to me, considering how many people still buy 2K8 to this day.

Now, I don't know if after 2K did his, NCAA decided to sign a exclusive contract with EA or what...but, regardless, 2K walked away from contract discussions with NCAA.

I have to disagree. the thing that made 2k college basketball games so great was that the gameplay was different from the NBA brand.

2k cb felt like cb, and nba2k felt like nba ball. this ranged from player movement, player builds, atmosphere, etc..


Id hate to have a cb basketball game feel and play like an NBA game. This was one of the major complaints of EA's NCAA10 and NBA LIVE 10. this was pointed out in most game reviews.

Pretty much. Been playing CH2K8 non-stop last couple days. This is my third copy. Only game I've bought more times is NFL2k5. Crazy thing is, this game still surprises me till this day. 2k put so many little things into that game. I doubt any other company will make a college hoops game with that much detail in 6+ years.

I'm going off topic a bit, but I wonder how many little things we'd notice in other games if we played them for 4 years.

I love this game and have been playing it nonstop, but the yearly cycle annoys me for all sports games.

Temple going to the Big East soon, its only a matter of time CHoops2k8 is completely ancient as far as the NCAA landscape goes.
