I honestly think there are some factors that are or aren't at work in these situations. The game seems coded to know when a pitcher is highly successful on the mound and in it's highly competitive nature, will keep him going because it's the CPU's best shot at winning...I mean, why stop a good thing when its working right?
The problem is that it seems to ONLY see that as it' s best shot and frequently ignores other factors like a well rested bullpen, pitch count and energy.
Another issue I believe is that this kind of logic is successful moreso for the CPU and not the user. Since the Show 09 most players have learned the hard way that late inning strategy is crucial to success, and that keeping a tiring pitcher too deep in the game with a small lead can lead to disastrous consequences. We're told to keep relievers warm at the first sign of trouble and be aware of pitch count and location and hitters tendencies, but a hot AI pitcher who's throwing a gem with an empty energy bar (and usually high confidence) rarely suffer the same consequences the user does.
Maybe the AI is designed not to follow these guidelines all at once and only goes the all or nothing route with these pitchers UNTIL it's lead is given up and only then will it decide to bring in a reliever, after which then conventional bullpen logic will kick in for the duration of the game.
