Re: CPU Pitcher Shutout Glitch?

I think it's programed like that... for instance

NO starting pitcher in the game comes out to pitch the 9th inning having given up 2 earned runs or more through 8 innings pitched.... regardless of the pitch count/energy. Say for instance I'm pitching against Justin Verlander. If I score 2 runs on a home run in the first inning and he cruises through the rest of the game and has a pitch count of 88-90 pitches, he's not coming back out.

As soon as you give up the 2nd run, the starting pitcher isn't going to finish the game.

I don't think there's been enough emphasis on pitch counts. I mean, rarely, you'll get an Edwin Jackson in 2010 where he'll throw 135+ pitches, but generally, 100 and the guy is pulled. (in the game I mean... way too much in real life).

I also noticed the CPU pitcher never has a complete game loss. He's always taken out after 7 innings regardless of the score. I think maybe once in RTTS I've pitched an 8 inning complete game loss.

... and if they're down 3 or more runs in the 5th in the National League, it's automatic that the pitcher is going to be pinch hit for.

Re: CPU Pitcher Shutout Glitch?

I got 3 hit by Jared Weaver on opening day. He was out of gas in the 7th, but yet somehow he threw more paint than Sherwin Williams in the 8th and 9th. He got stronger and stronger as the game went on. I would absolutely square up a ball multiple times and it would always be directly at a defender. He ended up throwing 164 pitches.

Meanwhile I would throw paint and they continued to pound me. Low and away sliders for pulled doubles, fastballs at 97-98 up in the zone and crushed for homeruns. The CPU is way too powerful on both sides of the ball.

I've only seen it way out of whack once so far. I've been shutout a few times but the one crazy time Doug Fister threw 159 pitches! The final score iirc was 3-0, Detroit.

Said it before and I'll say it again--it would be nice if we had control of the CPUs lineup to compete against more realistic situations.

I just switch teams mid-game to make the desired changes then switch right back. It's an 'ok' work-a-round, but not perfect.

Heh, I use that workaround too, for whenever I just I want to win the game.

I don't get what you mean? Why are you switching the lineup on the CPU?

I honestly think there are some factors that are or aren't at work in these situations. The game seems coded to know when a pitcher is highly successful on the mound and in it's highly competitive nature, will keep him going because it's the CPU's best shot at winning...I mean, why stop a good thing when its working right?

The problem is that it seems to ONLY see that as it' s best shot and frequently ignores other factors like a well rested bullpen, pitch count and energy.

Another issue I believe is that this kind of logic is successful moreso for the CPU and not the user. Since the Show 09 most players have learned the hard way that late inning strategy is crucial to success, and that keeping a tiring pitcher too deep in the game with a small lead can lead to disastrous consequences. We're told to keep relievers warm at the first sign of trouble and be aware of pitch count and location and hitters tendencies, but a hot AI pitcher who's throwing a gem with an empty energy bar (and usually high confidence) rarely suffer the same consequences the user does.

Maybe the AI is designed not to follow these guidelines all at once and only goes the all or nothing route with these pitchers UNTIL it's lead is given up and only then will it decide to bring in a reliever, after which then conventional bullpen logic will kick in for the duration of the game.
