Striker Form and how to preserve it

    It's making me angry again.

Just like in 12, as a Striker, I could score 5 goals in a game (scored 4 in an MLS Cup Quarterfinal) and still end the game with a form of barely 6.5. You'd think someone scoring that many goals, especially when it's their job, would rate a higher form.

What am I doing wrong? When we're on defense, I'm holding L1/LB so I'm in the "right" position, but it's docking me points for it. That's the biggest thing. I'm pretty good on offense, but when the other team has the ball, that's when I lose tons of points. Even when moving down field with my team to set up an attack, I'm losing points.

Because of this, I was actually benched for 6 matches because my form rating in that game (which we won and I scored a goal) was 5.8.

    What am I missing??

You should be passing around more and helping out of defense

Spamming standing tackles seems to be the biggest thing overlooked in form. Even as a striker you lose a lot for missing a tackle, and a lot of people like to spam standing tackles "just in case"

How close to the box should you play then? Anytime I get around the 1/3-2/3 of the field mark, those chevrons come up telling me to go back - and when I go back, I'm getting docked points.

Make sure you're not pressing A and B buttons (XBOX360) constantly, as it will kill your rating - especially if you're not near the ballcarrier.
It isn't how good you are. It's chaos and luck and anyone who thinks differently is a fool.

I just can't see how it's possible to score 4 goals and end with a 6.5 rating unless you are doing something horribly wrong (pressing the tackle button offsides for the entire game). Are you possibly exaggerating? Did a single striker really score 4 goals and end with a 6.5 rating, or did your team score 4 goals and end with that rating? I certainly see it as a possibility if it's the latter, in which case I would take a look at the post match game and check your passing/tackling/shooting completion percentages. If it's the former, then I can't explain it other then something is seriously broken.

Nope, I, meaning my VP, scored 4 goals and I ended the game with a 6.5 form rating.

In my 12 apperances for the Columbus Crew this season (I'm now loaned to Chateauroux), we've gone 8-1-3. I have 19 goals and 3 assists and 3 yellow cards. My average rating is 6.0.

Look at your Ball Retention possessions won/loss. It's terrible.

Ya and all the ground you're covering as a St? Hell, play it like a sim and not arcade game wanting to sprint, take on anyone and everyone, and spam tackles.

Judging from those screens, especially ball retention - I'd probably have you at the end of the bench to never see playing time because it's called being a BALL HOG.

I think the form is A LOT better, and I'm playing as a striker. My goal and two goal games I'm around 7 to 9 in form -- But then again, I pass the ball, try to keep the ball when I get it. And I don't call for it unless I'm open or have the break. Also, I don't tackle unless I legitimately have a shot at it and as a Striker I'm not going to sprint both end of the field. I rarely if ever get close to my own goal, I'm either stuck at the half line when my team is on D or attacking the opposition penalty box. Seems to work for me.

Of course it's terrible - defenders can just walk up to you and take it away. How are you supposed to keep that from happening?? I can't maneuver away as they just stick their feet in and bam - the ball is lose or they take posession. I lose maybe 5-8 balls by trying to create space. The rest are in the buildup in the attacking 1/3rd. When you have 3 defenders on you, how are you supposed to get out of that?

Then there's the fact that when your teammates pass it to you, your guy just stands there while the defenders run to you and steal the ball.

I never call for the ball, they just pass it to me.

I don't spam tackles - as you see, I WON two tackles and lost 0. I also made a point to not press it - so through each of those two games, I hit the standing tackle button perhaps 5 times through all of it.

Sprinting around everywhere? I'm holding LB when I'm not on the ball, that's where the computer is placing my guy. If I camp out near mid-field and wait for them to regain posession, those chevrons pop up and my form starts decreasing as well. I finish games with over half my sprint bar still full every game.

Re: Striker Form and how to preserve it

It looks like your guy is trying to cover a bit too much of the field, but if reducing the area of the pitch you cover brings up the chevrons, I can't imagine your form should dip. Your possession stats aren't great, but then again you're a striker trying to create openings so I would expect your possession stats to be much lower then say a center back. I would hope that they are weighting that aspect of the game accordingly, since it is a much bigger deal if your center backs are loosing possession then it is if your striker loses the ball on 1v1 with the keeper.

At this point, I would say you should try and contact someone on the EA forums because I don't see anything terribly wrong with what you're doing. If you do, make sure to include those pics. Let us know what you find out.
