Hot off the Wire: Jets SS Eric Smith TRADED to the Redskins!
(Hands up if you've been traded!)
The long tenured and stalwart Strong Saftey, Eric Smith, has been traded from the New York Jets to the Washington Redskins for a fourth round draft pick. Smith was entering his 7th season in the league (all with the Jets) and had even enjoyed a pretty solid pre-season, though with the addition of Yeremiah Bell in the offseason he had become the third man in a solid back field.
"Eric was a great player and a true leader during some tumultuous times here in New York. WIth the Redskins calling around for a starting caliber safety we felt that it that Eric deserved a chance to start again in this league rather than play second fiddle here. It seems like both Gamble and Head Coach Luke Mitchell are not done shaping this New York roster, and now with several extra draft picks over the next two years they may have a solid foundation to create something special.
