What's at Stake? -- Not much, in terms of wins and losses. Neither of these teams were given a shot to make the postseason this year, and while the Vikings enter this contest 1-0, nothing really transpired in Week 1 to make anyone feel any differently about that. However, both of these young teams do want to show improvement and inspire the hope that things are going in the right direction.
Fantasy Start 'Em, Sit' Em, Sleeper
Start 'Em: Adrian Peterson
Adrian Peterson further proved that he is not human by rushing for 151 yards and a touchdown in Week 1. That's a mind-boggling feat, considering it was roughly 9.5 months ago he was carted off the field after suffering a horrendous knee injury. AP may not be 100 percent, but he was at least 90 percent, and 90 percent Peterson is No. 1 fantasy back material.
Sit 'Em: Vick Ballard
Vick Ballard had sixteen carries for 80 yards in Week 1. In terms of fantasy he had a terrible day. While his workload was undoubtedly limited to the large deficit the Colts faced, it was pretty clear Ballard is not going to be a focal point of the offense. What is really going to kill Ballard in this game is that the Vikings play solid run defense but are questionable in the passing game. They held the strong Maurice Jones-Drew to 3.3 yards per carry and no touchdowns.
Sleeper: Coby Fleener
The second the Colts drafted tight end Coby Fleener following the selection of his Stanford teammate Andrew Luck, he went onto the fantasy sleeper board. Then he had a quiet preseason and was not generating a lot of buzz. Well, after 61-yard, two-catch, 5-target performance in the opener, the buzz is back. The Vikings allowed Jaguars tight ends Marcedes Lewis and Isaiah Stanback to catch two balls for 35 yards combined last week. Unless you have one of the stud fantasy tight ends, Fleener is a solid play.
Prediction: Vikings 24, Colts 20
The Vikings have more weapons and more experience. This should be a close game that goes down to the wire, but Adrian Peterson will wear down the Colts defense and pave the way to victory. |
