Classic pitchers.
I've used analog pitching since it was included in the game but lately I've been thinking about making a switch. I noticed a lot of people use classic pitching. Its been so long now that I don't even know what exactly classic pitching is. Can someone please give me a detailed explanation as to how it works and why they think it is the best way to pitch in the game?Tags: None -
Re: Classic pitchers.
Classic is pretty simple: You pick your pitch, you put the cursor where you want it to go, you press X.
I like it for two main reasons:
1. It's more ratings driven. How close and often you hit where you're aiming depends on how good your pitcher is. With the meter, I almost never missed a spot. With Classic, I miss spots.
2. My screen stays clean. There's no meter or pulse. My eyes get tired of watching a meter 100+ times a game over 162 games. I don't have to worry about that with Classic. -
Re: Classic pitchers.
That's what I've been using in my Franchise. I can't stomach missing a pitch because I can't master the analog control. I'd rather miss a pitch because I'm limited by the performance of the actual player (ratings, energy, confidence)Comment

Read this. I mean it. People that don't try it for like a handful of games and give up. Ok, ok. I'm exaggerating but you get my point.
Lowerwolf described it accurately, however there are a few more things to keep in mind.
When holding X, you'll eventually feel the controller vibrate (assuming you have a dual shock controller. If not, I recommend getting one). This indicates maximum effort (similar to the red on the meter and what occurs when you push the heck out of the stick in the upward direction on Analog).
Use this sparsely. Max effort pitches are pretty unpredictable.
Classic is very ratings and confidence driven. On top of that, individual pitch confidence is crucially important (good luck getting a K on a pitch that's got a low bar).
And factors like stamina will be more noticeable with classic too.
I like to choose an area of the strikezone on most counts and allow the ratings to dictate whether or not the pitch is a ball/on the black/meatball. Think of the zone as a box with 9 invisible boxes in it. I choose one and aim for near the center of it in a lot of circumstances, and only expand that box towards the ball side of the zone once either the pitcher's confidence goes up, when it's a count when I want a K, or when the CPU is making a lot of contact (or when I DO NOT want to throw a meat pitch).
Play a handful of games before making any judgements. There is a learning curve believe it or not.
If you have any questions, you can PM me at any time. I love the interface and will very likely NEVER switch to any other (unless they invent a new one...).Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 04-15-2013, 02:14 PM.Comment

Re: Classic pitchers.
Oh.
In your other thread you mentioned wanting to still be able to get beat by giving up double digit runs.
In my 35 games, I've given up 10+ 3 times, and a handful of others that were close to 10+.Comment

I think I switched in 11, and I'll never go back. Those that haven't used it, think its a crutch. In reality, outside of pulse pitching (only because that gives me a headache) I personally think Classic pitching is the most difficult setting to pitch well on. Because it is so ratings driven you have to concentrate on actually pitching and placing the ball more than the others. Also you can really tell your ace from your 5th starter.

Re: Classic pitchers.
It's definitely the most challenging one then it would be pulse pitching after that as somebody said above i like my screen to stay clean and i can look at the pitcher pitch rather the stare at the meter all game but the fun part of classic is the unpredictabilityComment

Re: Classic pitchers.
You guys make some pretty convincing arguments for classic pitching. But I just don't know if I can give up control like that.Comment

Re: Classic pitchers.
I never really understood that concern.
I never feel like I'm not actually pitching. I just feel like I'm removing my ability/inability on the controller from the equation.Comment

I don't know. I like to feel like my ability to use good pitchers makes a difference I guess.Comment

Re: Classic pitchers.
In my opinion all you're really doing with classic pitching is calling pitches. I like to be more involved than that.Comment

Re: Classic pitchers.
Used classic for about five years now. I love it. You're more involved than the other options due to you decide how much effort you want on your pitches. It goes perfect with the more realistic strike zones and how the AI chases. Try it out for a few games, you might like it.METS. NY FOOTBALL GIANTS. PENGUINS. HURRICANE FOOTBALL. LEBRON.

Re: Classic pitchers.
Good pitchers still pitch really well with classic pitching. Mediocre pitchers will have good games, and bad games, and some inbetween games. Bad pitchers will be tough to pitch with.
I used to use meter pitching, but made the switch a couple years back to classic. I liked meter, but once I got the timing down, I could hit the mark every single time. Made pitching seem too easy, even with 4th and 5th starters.
With classic, your aces still pitch like aces on most days (everyone has off days) Your good pitchers will pitch good more often than not. And your 4th and 5th starters pitch like 4th and 5th starters.
It's the most realistic way to pitch. Pitchers will have days where they are off. Days where only one or two pitches are working, and the others are relegated to being "show me" pitches. It's more realistic, because it makes you think. Makes you strategize on how to set up the hitter. Makes you think whether that 3-2 fastball is going to hit the corner, or reach the seats.Comment
