Immerse me into NHL 14
First let me say EA sports is missing a big opportunity for sales by the product that they put out forth in the NHL series. I want this game to immerse me into the game from not only a presentation aspect but also a game play standpoint include the little things we have been talking about for years. Playoff beards for one as well as TV style presentation. I want the playoffs to feel different from not only the gameplay but from the crowd as well. All the stadiums feel the same. And where do you play a video game sport where even the lead announcer does not even cover the game anymore. Its right here with NHL hockey by EA sports. This is not a thread to rip on EA but one that I hope improves it. Every year it seems that EA starts off with the same blueprint of the game and only tweaks it. I want them to grab me and want me to play NHL 14 even when the Hockey season is over this can be attainable by more attention to detail. Sorry that's the Marine

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
yes the presentation is close to nonexisting. it just doesn't feel like NHL hockey. First step would be to give most players their real cyberfaces.First let me say EA sports is missing a big opportunity for sales by the product that they put out forth in the NHL series. Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
As someone who really trys to immerse himself into games. I would love to see some certain things in presentation, Such as-- Goalies getting exited, celebrating after win- Lundqvist is an example
- The Rangers saluting their fans
- Hell I wouldnt mind a false sport network type thing, make it cool!
- More realistic faces, as the Bruins guy above said, Give people they're hair and mask atleast!
- Custom mask maker, that would be awesome, even if it was just a bunch of options of where to put your name, what logo you want and where, and color ETC
And these are some of my ideas.Check out my Youtube Channel! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWV...8TLczYIvDdlQgA

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
No doubt it would make it epic. However, it all reverts back to gameplay. The little things are only good for so long if the gameplay is not up to par. There are so many of those little things (lack of cyberfaces, announcers, celebrations, etc.) that really bother me, but the gameplay overshadows all of that for me right now. If this was The Show or NBA 2k then I would be looking for the developers to be adding those types of things in. What I find interesting though is that those two games have added in the little things while still developing their gameplay. NHL's developers must be unable to do that, or chose not to.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
My friend has suggested that the user can choose the type of siren they want after scoring.
EASPORTSNHL RT it on Twitter so maybe they don't think it's a bad idea after all.Comment

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
Sorry, I couldnt disagree more, rather than seeing EA waste all this development and resource time trying to meticulously replicate players how they look inside their helmets, I'd MUCH rather them spend that same time and focus on replicating how they PLAY and BEHAVE on the ice to create a much more dynamic and varied gameplay experience each time I play the game so each game doesnt feel like a carbon copy of the previous gameComment

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
Yeah, that! Could not have said it better myself. I would much rather have them PLAY differently and look exactly the same, than worry about whether the jersey is the right shade of blue, the stick has the right number of tape wraps, or some other ridiculous nitpicky detail....Sorry, I couldnt disagree more, rather than seeing EA waste all this development and resource time trying to meticulously replicate players how they look inside their helmets, I'd MUCH rather them spend that same time and focus on replicating how they PLAY and BEHAVE on the ice to create a much more dynamic and varied gameplay experience each time I play the game so each game doesnt feel like a carbon copy of the previous gameComment

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
I would really like them to fix the AI. Especially defensively. They is a players a foot from you and the pass is going cross crease and you don't move! or Move to late after he scores then you turn around and "try" to defend! I'm the biggest "nitpicker" out there about equipment and such but the game play definitely comes first. Saying that though, the commentary is beyond stale at this point.Comment

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
That's exactly what I want, but you do realize they have different departments doing different areas of the game? The art staff works on the equipment, cyberfaces, jerseys, etc. That art team doesn't make the code for how the players actually play on the ice. That's a whole other department or team that works on that. It's exactly like any other company. They have HR, Finance, Engineering, etc. You won't see a Finance person trying to engineer the next product. That's just like EA. You probably aren't going to see an art designer for NHL, developing the code for how a guy skates. People are better at certain areas of game making and that's why they are hired for that specific area.Sorry, I couldnt disagree more, rather than seeing EA waste all this development and resource time trying to meticulously replicate players how they look inside their helmets, I'd MUCH rather them spend that same time and focus on replicating how they PLAY and BEHAVE on the ice to create a much more dynamic and varied gameplay experience each time I play the game so each game doesnt feel like a carbon copy of the previous game
I said this in another thread but look at NBA 2k and The Show. How come those two games manage to have cyberfaces, correct arenas/stadiums, jerseys, all with updated game play? The answer is that those two games have their art teams working on the art areas of the game, and their game play team working on the development of how the game plays. Then you have the sound team and whatever other areas there are. It's possible to work on all aspects of the game at the same time. Obviously NHL doesn't have the staff those two games have, but I doubt it's so small that they can't work on all areas of the game at the same time.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: Immerse me into NHL 14
Whats frustrating is this game seems so close yet so far away from being amazing. I know its hard to make vast changes from year to year but compared to most sports games aside from madden, it seems as though they make miniscule changes year to year. I know gameplay is bigger then presentation but presentation seemingly has been ignored for years. As far as goal celebrations go, i feel as though they have taken away. Im not doubting these guys work hard and are good at what they do but i dont know, the games gotten stale. I've come to expect nothing from this series for the last 5 years or so and yet im still somehow dissappointed. None of know for sure what goes on behind the scenes or what the developers have to do but maybe its time for ea to take this game in a different direction, maybe different people working on the game.Last edited by giantsharks; 06-08-2013, 04:46 PM.San Jose Sharks
