The hockey season is back in full swing, and with the Leafs fielding their most competitive roster in recent memory, is this the beginning of a dynasty?

The Toronto Maple Leafs head into the 2019-2020 season with expectations that have been higher than ever after a disappointing end to their playoff run the year before.

Housekeeping
I will be following a "play one, sim two" strategy, which should allow me to play roughly 41 games throughout the regular season, equating to about one game through every virtual week. This will allow me to get through more than one season at a quicker pace.

I will be using TNK's NHL 20 Sliders with some minor tweaks to make the game more enjoyable for me personally. As always, the goal is for realism. Default NHL 20 rosters will be used.

Toronto Maple Leafs Name John Tavares Captain Ahead of 2019-2020 Season

TORONTO — John Tavares said recently when he used to dream about playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs there wasn’t a ‘C’ on his jersey.

Just being on the ice in blue and white was enough.


Now the 29-year-old has surpassed even his own childhood expectations.

Tavares was named the 25th captain in franchise history Wednesday during the pre-game ceremony before the NHL season opener against the Ottawa Senators, filling a role that had been vacant for more than 3 1/2 years.

Tavares Picks Up Three Helpers In Win Over Wild

Jake Muzzin scored his first goal of the season on a beautiful pass from Mitch Marner. The goal turned out to be the eventual game-winning goal as the Leafs would win 7-3.
