Re: why cant they make a CFB game with generic/random players?
The schools are not giving permission to be in games. We would not have conferences like the Big 12, ACC, SEC, Big 10, Pac12, etc. I don't know about you but I would never play a college game with generic schools, conferences, and players. -

Yes there would be a handful of hardcore fans that would buy it, but there's absolutely no way anyone could make a profit off of a generic CFB game.Favorite Teams:

Exactly. I don't think I would even buy it and I love ncaa football. I rather just stick to 14.Comment

I think the original point is not that the teams, conferences, etc are generic but rather the players only are generic.
Basically every game you start randomly creates ratings and names based on the schools prestige and maybe play style.
Had EA Sports gone this route instead of playing the "this isn't really Tebow" route there would never have been an issue.
To be fair though EA was just doing what was common practice to get around the licensing issues.
I think if a company changed the focus from the latest on field trend to an immersive game that focuses in the pride and pageantry of game day it would be a success.Comment

I don't see what the big deal is. The players in the game now are basically generic anyways. I play with UGA right now and the only one that even remotely looks like their real life counter part is Murray. Where the game becomes "real" is from the roster makers that do all the edits.Comment

That really shouldn't be an issue. For the most part all the schools give their consent to be used. The lawsuit was over "player likeness" being used in the game.Comment

And I'm pretty sure that I've heard of individual schools pulling out too. Perhaps that's wrong though.Favorite Teams:

I know there's at least 4 conferences as well as the NCAA that couldn't be in it.

ah ok, I didn't know about individual schools pulling out. the conferences, while disappointing, wouldn't be a huge deal. that would just have to deal with logos, championship trophies etc. all the stadiums and uniforms et all wouldn't be affected by that. now if the actual school pulls out that's a whole different story.Favorite Teams:
