Tazer19's Chicago Blackhawks Dynasty (NHL 14)

Dynasty is a forbidden word around these parts, but at this point it's hard not to bring it up, just don't do it in front of any of the members of the 2013-2014 Chicago Blackhawks. "We can't think about that, our goal is to get better every game" Captain Jonathan Toews said at the preseason media day at the United Center this morning. It's a Captain like answer but the fact remains, the Hawks have won the Stanley Cup two out of the last four years, and many experts have picked them to be in the picture at the end once again this year.

This is a different title defense this time around for the Hawks as they only had to part with three members of the 2012-2013 championship team, unlike in 2011 when there were more members missing than on the ice when the banner was raised to the rafters. The players that have departed this time around were important, but the coaching staff is confident they have replacements in house. "The guys that left are good players, no question, but in times like this you can't keep everyone, we feel that their departure opens the doors for some young talent to make a difference" Coach Q said this morning. He was referring to Dave Bolland, Michael Frolik, and Viktor Stalberg as the players that have found jobs elsewhere in the NHL. Everyone of those guys played a role, and the Hawks feel that some combination of Ben Smith, Joakim Nordstrom, Jimmy Hayes, Brandon Pirri, and Jeremy Morin will be more than capable of replacing them.

That will be one of the stories to follow during camp which gets under way today, the other will be how the Hawks will respond to a very short off season, one which they will take every time. "It's easy to sit here and say that we didn't have a lot of time off, but no one is going to feel sorry for us, every other team wishes their off season was this short. It comes with the territory of being a champion, we look forward to having a short off season every year" Patrick Kane said. The combination of returning a nearly full roster, and the hunger of the younger guys trying to make a name for themselves could make this year another exciting one on the West side. If everything comes together I don't think we can avoid using THAT word around here anymore....

The preseason has come and gone, and based on camp we have come up with the starting lineup for opening night below. But first, here are the results from a very successful preseason.

Here are the lines heading into opening night at the United Center, which is also Banner Night! This is how I like the lines set up right now, but they are by no means set in stone, Brandon Saad probably should be playing top 6 right now, but Bickell earned it during the postseason and has had chemistry with Toews and Kane. Here, we, go!

Great to see another Tazer dynasty. I will probably use your sliders, they are great to use. Do you play all of your games or is your playing time limited?

What a crazy night at the United Center, first the banner goes up then there was a barn burner on the ice. Really happy with the way the slider played in this one, definitely a keeper set for me. Hope you guys are enjoying this.

Hey Seb! I'm going to try and play a good amount of games, like this one, I played it. There will be some simulation of course, then I will figure out how I want to do my updates, hoping to keep it fun.

That was as good of a 60 minute game that we could play, I'm not unhappy with the effort, just the outcome. Ben Bishop was outstanding between the pipes for Tampa Bay, we had plenty of quality chances, just couldn't beat him.

Michal Handzus was dangerous tonight, the goal he scored came on a goal mouth scramble, but he was in the right spots tonight. Brandon Saad also had a solid game, really his whole line (Hayes, Shaw) was really good. Saad rang one off the post in the first period, he seemed to have the puck a lot.

A turnover in our own zone led directly to Tampa's goal, that's something we are going to have to be better at moving forward, other than that I was pleased, a definite goalie win for the Bolts.

The NHL season is only a week old but some are already tabbing this one as the game of the year. There was a lot of build up heading into this game as the Blues figure to be the main challenger to the Hawks in the Central Division. Both teams figured to be ready for this challenge but after 20 minutes it was clear the Hawks were not. After the fourth goal of the first period I pulled Crawford and went to Khabibulin the rest of the way. The four goals against Crawford really weren't his fault but I needed to send a message, apparently it got through.

The second period belonged to the Hawks, a re-dedicated forecheck led to three St. Louis turnovers that led directly to three Hawks goals. I don't think I've scored three straight unassisted goals ever, first time for everything I guess. This game really didn't disappoint as the Blues jumped back in front in the third before three straight Hawks goals to close it out. Obviously not thrilled with the start of this one but this team never got away from it's game and in the end it paid off. This rivalry is just going to get more and more heated and this game was chippy throughout and these teams will not be strangers throughout the season. Big win.

Back to back games this weekend and three in four nights so expect Khabibulin and Crawford to split the next two contests.

Showed some faith in Crawford by going back to him right away and it paid off as he stole this one. There is a very good reason for the Islanders skating circles around us, they were on the power play all night. The big blow was Hjalmarsson being assessed a 5 minute major for boarding and a game misconduct, which left us skating with five defensemen and it showed in the second half of the game.

Kane with a huge goal with under a minute left kept this one from going to overtime, which would have been the third OT game already this year. Crawford gets a rest tomorrow night as the Hawks welcome the Sabres to the United Center.
