GAME SUMMARY: It wasn't the smoothest of beginning for the POKES as QB DAVID HARRIS came out misfiring badly on their opening drive. 0/3 with 3 horrible passes, the Pokes were forced to punt--the throws were so bad, it almost seemed as if Harris was on the take or had something invested in the game...
After the ensuing punt, the TROJANS quickly worked down the field and capped their opening drive with a 16-yard TD scamper by senior halfback KEVIN BROWN for the 7-0 lead. This was the high point for USC.
USC fans were at their happiest at the conclusion of this play
The Pokes then did what they've done all year and turned on the jets. Wyoming went on a 33-0 run that included a pair of huge, big plays. A 70-yard TD strike to WR JABARI MCCUTCHEON that started off as a little hitch route and a 66-yard MICHAEL FRANK adventure through the USC D-Line got the Pokes on track. It did not hurt that, despite another 2 INT, Harris was on point and played the entire game.
A pair of explosive plays got the ball rolling for Wyoming
Continuing on the rally, the Cowboys were up 28-7 and Harris had just hit McCutcheon for what look like another possible TD with little time remaining in the 1st half. The only problem was that McCutcheon coughed up the ball near the goal line. But, true to how the game was faring for USC, the Pokes defense rose up and forced a safety, and a 30-7 halftime lead.
Even turnovers forced by Southern Cal backfired
After that, it was never close and the Cowboys were draining clock for nearly the entire 2nd half.
The Cowboys ran for 241 yards, which is nice to see. The only troubling thing about WYO in recent games had been putrid run blocking and a lack of explosiveness in the ground game. HB MIKE RODRIGUEZ was held down once again, and only reached 61 yards even with a pair of late long runs. Even so, it was a rush-by-committee approach today, and the long run by Frank coupled with the consistent positive gains by QB Harris and short-yardage back JACOB HARRIS made the run game effective.
The win gives CRAIG BOHL and his team a 2nd Pac 12 title in 3 years and punches their ticket to the BCS National Championship Game once again. Unless something crazy happens, it looks like the Pokes will face off against either GEORGIA or OLE MISS--whoever wins the ESSSS EEEE SEEEE.
