Game Notes
The Pokes are looking for their 2nd Pac 12 title, and the Trojans are looking for #40.

An interesting aside in this game is the coaching matchup. Following Lane Kiffin, who nearly led the Trojans to the MWC before getting canned, is HC Scott Hazelton. Scott "Scottie" Hazelton was most recently a DC at Nevada. Before that, however, he was a defensive position (LB) coach for the Trojans. But, even before that, he was Craig Bohl's DC at NDSU during their 1st FCS title run in 2011. Six degrees of Craig Bohl, anyone?

Coach Hazelton has himself a top-end DC in Charlie Strong. The two have led the Trojans to the top pass defense in the nation and the 6th best yardage defense and are tied for the 7th best scoring defense with.....Wyoming.

A key to watch in this game is USC's injury replacements. The Trojans are missing their best O-Lineman and blindside protector as well as their RE and best pass rusher. The Men of Troy also have the odd situation of having walk-ons manning the FB (46-OVR) and TE (45-OVR) positions--must be sanctions related to Lane Kiffin's recent departure?

The Trojans still have plenty 'o talent with 95-OVR HB Kevin Brown, 95-OVR C Jeff Pickens, 95-OVR DT Joe Perry, 92-OVR CB Terence Davis, and 93-OVR FS Darren Roberts.

Wyoming has yet to play a game closer than 17 points and is rocking opponents by an average of 26.4 points per game. It's hard to imagine anyone beating the Pokes right now. But, if the game gets tight, and with a possible Natty appearance at stake, how will the Pokes respond?

Pre-Game Ratings:

USC Trojans - (91 OVR | 86 OFF | 93 DEF)

WYO Pokes - (91 OVR | 90 OFF | 92 DEF)

Man, Conference Championships are here already? Seems like we were just talking about this season as "upcoming". Great job against Da Bears WTNY. I honestly thought with the trouble you have had with them over the years, they would quite possibly ruin the undefeated season. Good luck against my team in the CC.

Breaking News: US Supreme Court Rules Against NCAA, Mandates Sweeping Changes in College Football

Washington, DC -- A glacially slow-moving piece of litigation was finally ruled on today in the United States Supreme Court. The collusion lawsuit, originally filed in Northern California District Court all the way back in March of 2014, had been through Appellate Court and the California State Supreme Court before receiving a 7-1 vote in favor of the plaintiff, Shawne Alston. Justice Sotomayor reportedly recused herself from the case for health reasons.

Alston, a former student-athlete at West Virginia University, and his legal team successfully made the case that the NCAA's antiquated "grant-in-aid" system was wholly inadequate to meet the burdens and time constraints placed on student-athletes. Moreover, the case was successfully made that the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision was a distinct marketplace with student-athletes acting as laborers. Due to this definition, along with NFL entrance rules leaving student-athletes at the mercy of the predatory NCAA--a supposed non-profit raking in billions of dollars on the backs of student-athletes each year--the Court found the NCAA and its "Power Conferences" to have been engaged in anti-competitive practices and collusion in artificially depressing the labor market.

The issue had been simmering for several years and the proverbial writing had been on the wall since successful legal challenges by former NCAA athletes Ed O'Bannon and Kain Colter. O'Bannon's original suit brought to light the inadequacy of college licensing agreements that do not reward students for usage of their likenesses. Colter's move to unionize the Northwestern football program made the point that these "student-athletes" are often treated like employees despite vehement denial by the NCAA. Although both actions had a limited practical impact at the time, it is not difficult to deduce that they ultimately steered the public discourse to where the Supreme Court had no choice but to call a spade a spade.

The court's ruling mandates two central changes for the NCAA. In order to continue to play FBS-caliber football in 2021 with no work stoppage, the NCAA must fully abide by both mandates.

(1) The current, capped grant-in-aid system is to be completely scrapped and replaced with a full cost-of-attendance stipend. The stipend will cover the entire, total cost of attending a given university (tuition, books, fees, room and board, team meals, travel, and medical expenses) plus an additional yearly $10k that will adjust with inflation. The new stipends/scholarships will only be terminable by the student-athlete or by the university upon graduation by the student-athlete. Scholarships will not be terminable by coaches, athletic department officials, or for medical reasons unless the student-athlete is found to have committed a felony. The new cost-of-attendance system will also reward outstanding student-athletes by guaranteeing student-athletes a percentage of all revenue generated from their specific likeness.

(2) The existing conference structure is to be dissolved immediately. The suit had brought to light problems with the existing NCAA structure with a President and BCS Executive Committee that consists in large part of "Power Conferences," who were neglecting student-athletes and genuine concerns over travel, concussions, and workloads in favor of seeking the best TV deals. The Court ruled that due to this gross negligence and non-representation, the BCS Executive committee must be replaced with an NCAA Senate with each FBS member having equal say in future changes to the FBS. FBS Conferences will be allowed to keep their current names for marketing purposes, but the FBS Conferences will be randomly repopulated as a safeguard against the NCAA, and Power Conferences in particular, continuing to act as regional cartels. With a less centralized power structure and more decision-makers, the NCAA will have no choice but to be more transparent in all activities.

The Court's landmark finding set off shockwaves in the news with congressmen, shock DJs, pundits, talking heads, and NCAA officials all decrying the ruling. Despite the initial shock at this major change to the NCAA landscape, nation-wide polls show 61% of Americans approve of student-athletes receiving cost of living upgrades and merchandising income. The only significant unrest, other than from the status quo, is from non-FBS student-athletes and student-athletes in other sports. Even so, many student-athletes have shown solidarity with FBS student-athletes because they see this as a way to get the ball rolling for all student-athletes, even those participating in non-revenue generating sports.

In response to the ruling and the massive increase in operating expenses in the form of ironclad stipends, paying a percentage of merchandising, and upgrading healthcare policies, the NCAA has been scrambling to re-negotiate current TV deals. Current TV contracts with ESPN, CBS, and FOX are not set to expire for another 4-5 years, but the schools will pursue additional revenue effective immediately. Sources indicate that the NCAA's pitch to the networks will be about ratings increasing due to curiosity about the new system, people needing to watch more games on TV with many non-regional conference games, and the need for the best programs to beef up out-of-conference schedules drastically if they land in a weak, repopulated conference.

Congrats on your undefeated season. Surprised that M-Rod has struggled so much in recent games, but it's good too see Harris staying healthy and playing well.

1 more game between you and a Natty spot.. Good luck..

Oh is Georgia and Florida in opposite divisions in your SEC layout? if not who is playing in the SEC Championship game.

You know if Georgia is who you meet in your NC, you have mine, Coach Dezaron and Coach Chang's full support.

Georgia edged Florida for the SEC East spot. #2 Georgia will play #4 Ole Miss in the SEC Championship Game basically for a spot in the BCS Championship.

GAME SUMMARY: It wasn't the smoothest of beginning for the POKES as QB DAVID HARRIS came out misfiring badly on their opening drive. 0/3 with 3 horrible passes, the Pokes were forced to punt--the throws were so bad, it almost seemed as if Harris was on the take or had something invested in the game...

After the ensuing punt, the TROJANS quickly worked down the field and capped their opening drive with a 16-yard TD scamper by senior halfback KEVIN BROWN for the 7-0 lead. This was the high point for USC.

USC fans were at their happiest at the conclusion of this play

The Pokes then did what they've done all year and turned on the jets. Wyoming went on a 33-0 run that included a pair of huge, big plays. A 70-yard TD strike to WR JABARI MCCUTCHEON that started off as a little hitch route and a 66-yard MICHAEL FRANK adventure through the USC D-Line got the Pokes on track. It did not hurt that, despite another 2 INT, Harris was on point and played the entire game.

A pair of explosive plays got the ball rolling for Wyoming

Continuing on the rally, the Cowboys were up 28-7 and Harris had just hit McCutcheon for what look like another possible TD with little time remaining in the 1st half. The only problem was that McCutcheon coughed up the ball near the goal line. But, true to how the game was faring for USC, the Pokes defense rose up and forced a safety, and a 30-7 halftime lead.

Even turnovers forced by Southern Cal backfired

After that, it was never close and the Cowboys were draining clock for nearly the entire 2nd half.

The Cowboys ran for 241 yards, which is nice to see. The only troubling thing about WYO in recent games had been putrid run blocking and a lack of explosiveness in the ground game. HB MIKE RODRIGUEZ was held down once again, and only reached 61 yards even with a pair of late long runs. Even so, it was a rush-by-committee approach today, and the long run by Frank coupled with the consistent positive gains by QB Harris and short-yardage back JACOB HARRIS made the run game effective.

The win gives CRAIG BOHL and his team a 2nd Pac 12 title in 3 years and punches their ticket to the BCS National Championship Game once again. Unless something crazy happens, it looks like the Pokes will face off against either GEORGIA or OLE MISS--whoever wins the ESSSS EEEE SEEEE.
