Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Question, when you are playing one of the top tier teams but you wan to develop young talent that has already been promoted from youth team or was acquired in a transfer, are there any options other than loaning them?

I have about 20 players that i actively use, swapping in 3-5 each match, but tried to acquire enough young talent to maximize my squad. Most of these players are between 77-90 so I think of the ready for 1st team.

Its the rest of the players (around 15) which are 71-60 that i'm concerned about. Will they develop just sitting deep on my bench?

In real life, soccer clubs have minor teams, but it doesn't seem like an option in Fifa14. Only a few of my players get requests for season loans.

Is there another option that i'm not thinking of?
Will I have better chances with shorter loans?
Do I just have too many players and the game isn't designed to develop so many young players like this?

ummm the Youth Academy is your minor league team. Once you call them up they are in your first squad and if you dont call them up they will leave to go play first time football somewhere else. Its how it works in life and in the game, just isn't depicted in the right manor.....

You really only need youth players to fill slots in your team where you see fit.

I just won League 2 by a comfortable margin, got promoted to League 1, and won manager of the year. For all of that, the Chesterfield board gives me 525,000 for transfers. Then they tell me my objective for the season is to "fight for promotion," which, as I understand it, means they want me to qualify for the League 1 playoffs, or a top-6 finish.

I've built a young squad that I think has good potential, but they aren't ready to compete in League 1 right away. (Especially since I bumped the difficulty up to Legendary.) I need some help at RB, RM, and CM, but there's no way I'm going to get that with 525k. I may be able to add a player or two for depth, but I'm not going to find a guy who comes in and immediately strengthens my squad with that little money to spend.

So what do you do in this situation? How do you deal with this frustration? Because honestly, this is a big reason why most of my CMs rarely last more than a season or two, but I want to stick this one out.
Not sure if this is what you want, but I know in FIFA 13 (not sure about 14, haven't tried) you would be able to adjust the goals that the board had for your team by going to the request funds section and changing the goals they had for you and then requesting $0. So you could try that strategy and change your goal to "Finish Mid Table" or whatever you think your team is more suited to.

THIS. Haven't tried it myself either but give it a go hopefully it'll work. Think of it as a way of screwing over the board for them trying to screw you over lol

yes they will develop sitting on the bench. well, some of them, probably a majority of them will at least. I look at the guys who are progressing with minimal first team action and those are the guys i try to integrate into my first team. and honestly they can play well above their number rating. Matti Steinmann is a player for me for Hamburg who has recently broken through and is now getting consistent games. he has played well too recently he came on for Badelj after I went down 1-0 to Hoffenheim, and I turned that around and won 2-1

I think its somewhat realistic (at least with my imagination) that the players who perform well in training (i.e. progress without game-time) get a chance to prove themselves during a game. if they play well i keep them in and around the first team, regardless of their overall.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I'm waiting for the right squad update to start a career with my favorite team from Mexico Guadalajara. My goal is to stay true to their transfer policy of only Mexican players and also to qualify for the Copa LatAm. Does anyone know how to qualify for it? Do I have to win the play offs or finish 1st/2nd in the league?

You'll have to wait until they turn 18 for clubs to want them on loan. But once they hit that age, the exciting prospects and special talents will get snapped up by some extremely nice clubs. I promoted a 68 OVR wide midfielder with 88-90 potential at Villarreal when he was 16. I couldn't get him out on loan until two seasons later, but when I did list him then, he got the following loan offers in one week: PSV, Getafe, Sociedad, Cardiff City, Everton and Werder Bremen. By that time, he had grown to a 74 OVR without much playing time, so you could follow a similar pattern. Just make sure you offer them the 'Future 1st Team Player' role when you promote them and give them a substitute's appearance every 10-12 games, or they may whine about not getting a look in.

In FIFA 14, you can't set your board expectations lower than they are. For example, if you are expected to qualify for Champions Cup, the only thing you can do is offer to win the league.

I'm assuming that beginning in such a low tier of the English league system, you didn't have the money to invest in youth scouts. Usually, that can pay off because even players who don't make it to your playing selection can be sold, often for hundreds of thousands of pounds collectively.

One thing you can do is scoop up a bunch of free agents, get them playing well, and cash in on them in the next window. Unfortunately, it's hit-and-miss. This was a lot easier last year when you knew who was good and who wasn't with the overall and values listed without having to do any research/scouting.

Based on my experience, you may not necessarily be fired if you don't get promoted, so long as you don't get relegated or have too many bad runs of form. See if you can spend a year or two in League 1 like you want to, and build from there. Speaking from experience again, the jump from League 2 to League 1 is nowhere near as big as the jump from League 1 to the Championship/Championship to PL.

                        **********

We've just finished up a golden preseason here in the south of France. Each game was an excellent display of this team's many strengths and talents.

Game 1: Marseille 3-1 Crystal Palace

Things started off slowly as we settled into a passing rhythm. Palace didn't press us nearly enough to disrupt us, which was a huge mistake. Around half and hour into the game, Valbuena found himself in an acre of space at the edge of Palace's box but with three man in front of him. He teed up Imbula, who was making a run in from the left. One touch was all it took before he placed the ball exquisitely past a static keeper.

We kept the ball well after that, denying Palace any sort of time on the ball by hounding them on the rare occasion we lost possession. Just before halftime, Gignac dispossessed Joe Ledley not too far from Palace's box. A quick pass met Valbuena, who dribbled past two men and hit a finesse shot past a helpless keeper.

We started the second half strongly, keeping the ball for long spells and playing short passes between the two levels of midfield. About 77 minutes into the game, Ayew dribbled from one wing to the other before cutting back in, rounding the keeper and putting away a cheeky chip into an empty net. Unfortunately, a routine save in injury time became a weak parry, allowing an unmarked Tom Ince to tap in Palace's consolation goal.

Game 2: Borussia Dortmund 2-2 Marseille

It's never easy playing away, but the job becomes even more difficult when you're up against one of Europe's best sides. We started the game well, and I was pleasantly surprised when we went 1-0 up in just the seventh minute. Valbuena released Ayew down the left before making a run at goal. Ayew slipped the ball in further up the pitch, but it was headed back to him by Sokratis. The Ghana international then hit a magnificent cross that skimmed just over a leaping Gignac before bouncing to the right wing and into the path of an onrushing Thauvin, who hit a superb volley past a leaping Hendrik Bonmann. Not soon after this, Henrikh Mkhitaryan made a fool of Mendes outside our box before scoring from close range.

The second half began 1-1 and seemed to be staying that way until a piece of magic in minute 77. I cleanly dispossessed (and injured) Robert Lewandowski in the box, but Mkhitaryan got the ball back before crossing it. Marco Reus headed in a second for the Germans after a magnificent leap over two of my defenders. Despite keeping the ball after conceding, I thought we were going to lose. But with two minutes to go until stoppage time, Imbula played a sublime through ball that found Thauvin onside. A couple of neat dribbles allowed him to hit a simple equaliser past the keeper.

                        Game 3: Marseille 1-0 Sampdoria

Not soon after this game started, I knew I was going to have to get lucky. We kept the ball and passed it around like a dream, but we just couldn't convert any of our chances into goals. Their keeper was having the game of his life, and a massive 12 shots on target in the first half were all saved! Despite enjoying close to 70% of the possession and completing 83% of our passes, we didn't look anywhere close to winning.

In the second half, Sampdoria came at us in force. In one early spell, Mandanda made three outstanding saves in a row to keep us level. Later on, we conceded seven corners in a row. With 84 minutes gone and Sampdoria camped deep into their half of the pitch, it took a phenomenal piece of teamwork to make a late breakthrough. A chipped lob over and between Sampdoria's central defenders found Gignac, who played the ball back to Valbuena. With the keeper rushing, a quick square back to Gignac allowed the striker to hit an empty net. Tight defending allowed us to come through preseason undefeated and very proud.

                        Observations

Now this team has some obvious weaknesses, but there's nothing so drastic it can't be fixed with some quality purchases/loans in January. The only players in the starting lineup who need to be replaced are Morel and Romao, who just aren't dynamic and mobile enough for my liking. The biggest weakness is the lack of depth, with Payet and Khalifa the only quality talents I can reliably call on from the bench. I'd also like to bring in a more mobile striker to complement Gignac's playing style, but that can wait as long as summer 2014.

Valbuena is the best player on this team by some distance. He can pass it as well as he can beat a man, and he creates and scores with equal ease. It must be the half-Spanish blood, but he reminds me of a more tenacious Juan Mata. With five years of very good football left in him, Valbuena is going to be the man I build my team around. Because he's got a measly 38 strength rating, I'll have to keep him surrounded by powerful players.

I'll be updating further at the end of every month.

Been a while since I have checked in and an even longer while since I've sat down with CM. I started a new one last night with Newcastle and I loveeeeee the way the team looks after the summer transfer window. My plan was to bring in a few Americans along with some other talent, but mostly to get rid of a lot of the players that I didn't want. I will have a more detailed post later, but from what I can remember:

                          OUT
                          P. Cisse

                          + a bunch of no name/low-rated guys

Well despite winning a league and champions league double with Man Utd in the first season, by the end of season 3 my 5th place was not enough and I was sacked. It was probably fair enough as I had the best squad in the league and hadn't been playing good football.

I landed on my feet however at newly mega-rich Stoke City!

So I decided to spend my £56 million summer transfer budget on bringing in a few of my favourite players from my Man Utd days to strengthen every area of the squad.

I signed Großkreutz, Lascelles, Junior Malanda, Lodesani, Zaha, and Werner from my old club, and also spent £13m on Lewis Holtby from Tottenham.

                            My current starting 11 is:

                            GK - Julio Cesar
                            RB - Großkreutz
                            CB - Shawcross
                            CB - Lascelles
                            LB - Muniesa
                            RM - Zaha
                            CM - Wilson
                            CM - Malanda
                            LM - Arnautovic
                            AM - Holtby
                            ST - Mayuka

                            Subs:
                            Butland
                            Pieters
                            Huth
                            Ness
                            Werner
                            Denis
                            Jerome

Do I have to win the play offs or finish 1st/2nd in the league?
Top two teams im pretty sure, or playoff winner and top team. Only two teams from Mexico make it.

GK- Simone Scuffet (18 years old, 70 overall, 88 potential)
RB- Deandre Yedlin (21 years old, 69 overall, 78 potential)
RCB- Nathan Ake (19 years old, 70 overall, 82 potential)
LCB- Eric Dier (20 years old, 74 overall, 81 potential)

RCM- Yuya Kubo (20 years old, 70 overall, 84 potential)
LCM- Pedro Azogue (19 years old, 67 overall, 68 potential)
LM- Leon Goretzka (19 years old, 71 overall, 85 potential)
RS- Anthony Martial (18 years old, 67 overall, 87 potential)
LS- Bard Finne (19 years old, 67 overall, 81 potential)

I figure by the time we get to the BPL (about 2-3 seasons), they should all be at, or around their potentials. They will all by playing every game barring injuries since I really have no subs except for some decent players.

Just wanted to mark this as the day the acquisition of Kendrick Perkins sparked a debate about stacking your team.
