Marseille have a long and proud history as one of the most successful clubs in France. Success would mean a return to the glory the club knew as recently as 2010, as well as upsetting a wealthy duo in Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.

The first team is fairly solid, though some players will need replacing over the next 12 months or so. With a bit of strengthening in January, we should be able to qualify for next year's Champions Cup while making it to the last 16 of this year's edition from a group that also includes Copenhagen, Porto and Bayer 04. A transfer budget of €15 million plus group stage winnings means I should be able to get my first choices in the winter window.

Some of the players I'm scouting include:

Romain Alessandrini (winger, Stade Rennais/France)
Serge Aurier (defender, Toulouse/Ivory Coast)
Demba Ba (striker, Chelsea/Senegal)
Clement Chantome (midfielder, Toulouse/France)
Sebastien Corchia (defender, Sochaux/France)
Papy Mison Djilobodji (defender, Nantes/Senegal)
Gueida Fofana (midfielder, Lyon/France)
Salomon Kalou (striker, Lille/Ivory Coast)
Alexander Lacazette (striker, Lyon/France)
Jeremy Menez (striker, PSG/France)
Steven N'Zonzi (midfielder, Stoke/France)
Yaya Sanogo (striker, Arsenal/France)
Fernando Torres (striker, Chelsea/Spain)
Jetro Willems (defender, PSV/Netherlands)
Will be keeping a close eye on this one. Always wanted to start a career in France, might be my next move after my bilbao career. Good luck!

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I want to ask you guys a question, because I'm starting to get frustrated so I want to know how others deal with this. How do you deal with the board's expectations being higher than their support?

I just won League 2 by a comfortable margin, got promoted to League 1, and won manager of the year. For all of that, the Chesterfield board gives me 525,000 for transfers. Then they tell me my objective for the season is to "fight for promotion," which, as I understand it, means they want me to qualify for the League 1 playoffs, or a top-6 finish.

I've built a young squad that I think has good potential, but they aren't ready to compete in League 1 right away. (Especially since I bumped the difficulty up to Legendary.) I need some help at RB, RM, and CM, but there's no way I'm going to get that with 525k. I may be able to add a player or two for depth, but I'm not going to find a guy who comes in and immediately strengthens my squad with that little money to spend.

So what do you do in this situation? How do you deal with this frustration? Because honestly, this is a big reason why most of my CMs rarely last more than a season or two, but I want to stick this one out.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

Question, when you are playing one of the top tier teams but you wan to develop young talent that has already been promoted from youth team or was acquired in a transfer, are there any options other than loaning them?

I have about 20 players that i actively use, swapping in 3-5 each match, but tried to acquire enough young talent to maximize my squad. Most of these players are between 77-90 so I think of the ready for 1st team.

Its the rest of the players (around 15) which are 71-60 that i'm concerned about. Will they develop just sitting deep on my bench?

In real life, soccer clubs have minor teams, but it doesn't seem like an option in Fifa14. Only a few of my players get requests for season loans.

Is there another option that i'm not thinking of?
Will I have better chances with shorter loans?
Do I just have too many players and the game isn't designed to develop so many young players like this?

ummm the Youth Academy is your minor league team. Once you call them up they are in your first squad and if you dont call them up they will leave to go play first time football somewhere else. Its how it works in life and in the game, just isn't depicted in the right manor.....

You really only need youth players to fill slots in your team where you see fit.

Not sure if this is what you want, but I know in FIFA 13 (not sure about 14, haven't tried) you would be able to adjust the goals that the board had for your team by going to the request funds section and changing the goals they had for you and then requesting $0. So you could try that strategy and change your goal to "Finish Mid Table" or whatever you think your team is more suited to.

THIS. Haven't tried it myself either but give it a go hopefully it'll work. Think of it as a way of screwing over the board for them trying to screw you over lol

yes they will develop sitting on the bench. well, some of them, probably a majority of them will at least. I look at the guys who are progressing with minimal first team action and those are the guys i try to integrate into my first team. and honestly they can play well above their number rating. Matti Steinmann is a player for me for Hamburg who has recently broken through and is now getting consistent games. he has played well too recently he came on for Badelj after I went down 1-0 to Hoffenheim, and I turned that around and won 2-1

I think its somewhat realistic (at least with my imagination) that the players who perform well in training (i.e. progress without game-time) get a chance to prove themselves during a game. if they play well i keep them in and around the first team, regardless of their overall.

Re: How's Your FIFA 14 Career Mode Going?

I'm waiting for the right squad update to start a career with my favorite team from Mexico Guadalajara. My goal is to stay true to their transfer policy of only Mexican players and also to qualify for the Copa LatAm. Does anyone know how to qualify for it? Do I have to win the play offs or finish 1st/2nd in the league?
