      Game Notes
From the looks of the stats, this could be a close game. When the New England Patriots played the Buffalo Bills last, it was a close game. The Patriots won the game 24-19. The Bills are a tougher team this year and look to challenge the Patriots for the AFC East crown again this season.

      Extra Notes:
The linebacker lineup is being shuffled this week. Arthur Moats will start at inside linebacker, while Dont'a Hightower is moving back to strongside linebacker. This means Jamie Collins will move over to the weakside linebacker position.

Coming into Sunday's game, the Buffalo Bills had lost the last five times they played the New England Patriots. in fact, the Bills had only won 3 of their last 27 games against the Patriots. Despite how well they've been playing this year, the Patriots were playing even better. Averaging over 40 points per game, the Patriots looked like an offensive juggernaut. History and even the present would have little impact on this game however.

It was apparent from the first drive of the game that the Bills weren't going to be the same team they played in the years before. Getting running back C.J. Spiller was huge for Buffalo and it showed immediately. The Bills' offensive lines opened up big holes for the Spiller to run through. When defenders converged on Spiller, he showed his elusiveness, spinning and cutting away from would be tacklers. in the first quarter alone, Spiller had rushed for over 100 yards.

C.J. Spiller fighting off a tackle by Logan Ryan on the way to scoring one of his two first quarter rushing touchdowns.

The Patriots first drive made it appear as though the Patriots would be able to respond on offense if the defense wouldn't be able to contain the Bills' offense. After the Bills scored, the Patriots answered back immediately with a scoring drive of their own. Things went downhill after that point. The Patriots struggled heavily stopping the run and getting off the field on third downs.

Kenbrell Thompkins catches a 54 yard touchdown pass early in the first quarter.

While the defense did start to play a little better, it wasn't enough to stop the Bills. Already down 17-7 after the first quarter, the Patriots' offense began to make mistakes as well. While Tom Brady has been inaccurate this season, his inaccuracy didn't result in turnovers. In this game it did. Not only did Brady's inability to find his own receivers hamper the offense, there were also dropped passes that ended drives for the Patriots. The Patriots did manage to find the end zone again before the end of the second half on a 14 yard Shane Vereen run, but they were still behind 24-14.

Stephon Gilmore gets one of his two interceptions and Mario Manningham makes a great over-the-shoulder touchdown catch with Aqib Talib all over him.

While the scoring was down in the second half, the outlook didn't improve for the Patriots. The Bills still kept drives alive by converting third downs and the Patriots were completely ineffective on offense. The defense didn't have an answer for Spiller either as he continued to pile up rushing yards. To add to New England's misery, Brady would throw three more interceptions in the second half. Another three field goals and a touchdown in that time frame added left the final score of the game 39-14.

The Buffalo Bills didn't ease up in the second half and E.J. Manuel found Ed Dickson for a 9 yard touchdown pass.

With their bye week coming up, the Patriots could use some of that time to lick their wounds. There's no doubt that a loss like this has the potential to linger for a while. How they respond to it will determine what type of team they want to be. While a 4-1 start to the season isn't bad, this team aspires for something greater.

        Game Ball/Extra Rep

        Game Ball
Kenbrell Thompkins: Thompkins shakes of the rust from recent weeks and has his first 100 yard game of the season.

Arthur Moats: Despite the defense troubles stopping the run, Moats has a great day, recording 9 tackles.

Devin McCourty: McCourty does well on kickoff returns when Marcus Sherels goes down with a rib injury.

        Extra Reps
Defense: The usually good run defense looks terrible against Buffalo giving up over 200 yards on the ground.

Offensive Line: Buffalo's defensive line has it's way with the Patriots offensive line, holding the latter's rushing offense to less than 60 yards.

Tom Brady: While Brady started the game well, it was all downhill after the first quarter as the veteran quarterback throws 4 interceptions.

        Media Reaction
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: Nothing better than a win at home. Bills will rest easy tonight.
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: Multiple scores by C.J. Spiller leads #Bills to victory this week.

Lavar Arrington - @LArringtonEA: Home sweet home for New Orleans -- they get the win.
Mat Miller - @MattMillerEA: Raiders will be dissatisfied to say the least after coming up short at home.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: Best way to win over your fan base: win at home. #Jets didn't get that memo.
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: #Bengals came into Denver and pulled it out against the #Broncos.ers
Mike Hill - @MikeHillEA: Rams will have trouble sleeping after that loss to the Seahawks.
Adam Schefter - @AdamSchefterEA: The punching bag Browns look unbeatable through four games.
Trey Wingo - @WingozEA: Going to pull out one of my favorite words here, quite a shellacking in Chicago.
Susannah Collins - @SCollinsEA: Physical battle!!! San Francisco kept it close, though, and a few big plays led to the win.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: Here's some breaking news: LeSean McCoy wouldn;t be much of a star if the opposition would tackle.
Mike Hill - @MikeHillEA: Paydirt after paydirt for Stephen Jackson. 49ers couldn't keep him out of the end zone.
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: Matthew Stafford just lit up the scoreboard against the #Vikings frazzled D.
Mark Schlereth - @MarkSchlerethEA: With any receiver, when they catch TD passes their QB is always their best buddy after the game. #Lions
Susannah Collins - @SCollinsEA: Did you see Drew Brees flinging it!! Big win for the Saints!!!
Matt Miller - @MattMillerEA: Wonder if any WRs are sore after Aaron Rodgers kept putting the ball on the money.
          Matt Clay - @MClayEA: Aaron Rodgers' fantasy value is at a season-high after a 5-TD game. #SellHigh
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: If the Steelers defense wants to be elite, there's work to do. They had 4 sacks, but could have been more.
Trey Wingo - @WingozEA: In the making-things-happen category this week is A.J. Green.
Mike Hill - @MikeHillEA: QB is usually the calming presence, but seemed like T. Smith took that role today.
Robert Flores - @RoFloEA: I think it's fair to say the Browns defense smacked around the Raiders offensive line. That was ugly.
Lavar Arrington - @LArringtonEA: C. Newtons awful day costs Panthers the game, angers fans, frustrates coaches.
Lavar Arrington - @LarringtonEA: What an effort by the Jaguars. Panthers get to limp back home, with question marks aplenty.
Mark Schlereth - @MarkSchlerethEA: Gotta respect the way the Redskins played in OT. Kept their cool, got it done.

Part III of V: It's All Part of the Plan
It's often debated whether or not it's beneficial for an NFL team to have their bye week early in the season or later. Having it later would make sense. Having to play 10 or 11 straight NFL games can be taxing. Since teams don't have a say when they have their bye week, the only thing they can do is take advantage of it when it comes around. After the loss the New England Patriots had to the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots' bye might have come at the right time. For the first time in a while, the Patriots may not be leading the AFC East when the week is over. The Patriots aren't the only ones in what looks like a tough division. With the exception of a few teams, every division looks like it's closely contested. In situations like that, every game takes on an added level of importance.

Both the St. Louis Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles both drafted a quarterback in the 2014 draft. While the Rams took Neil Stone with the first overall pick, the Eagles took Billy Perez with the 73rd overall pick in the third round. Despite being a third round pick, Perez has performed well and led the Eagles to a 4-1 record. On the other hand, things haven't looked as good for Stone in St. Louis. A 2-3 record has the Rams in last place in the NFC West. On Sunday, these two quarterbacks will collide to determine which one is better, at least for this game.

When the Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals play this Sunday, more than just a win will be on the line for both teams. Both the AFC South and AFC North are closely contested right now. In the AFC North however, the Bengals are looking up at an undefeated Cleveland Browns team. A win for either team means that they haven't suffered a setback that will make things more difficult for them down the road. Only one team can come away with a win though.

                    New England Patriots Scouting Report

Like last week, the defense is front and center for the scouting report. When it comes to the defense, especially the defensive line, the New England Patriots will have a lot of decisions to make. Both Tommy Kelly and Vince Wilfork are in the final year of their deals. Chandler Jones will be going into the last year of his rookie deal next season. None of the backups on the roster are proven yet and Sam Drummond, the team's first round draft pick, may not be ready for a starting role. Out of the prospects looked at this week, Tharold Chance and Davyon Rucker have caught the scouts' eyes more than the others. Rucker is projected as an early round draft pick while Chance is projected as a mid to late round draft pick.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars will get a boost this week with offensive lineman Todd Herremans and Jared Allen returning. Allen will be making his season debut for the Jaguars after an ankle injury sidelined him in week three of the preseason. For the Eagles, having Herremans back means they're closer to having most of their starting offensive line back.

Adam Schefter - @AdamSchefterEA: Vikings couldn't stop a nosebleed today, and no way they were stopping the Packers from winning.
Matt Miller - @MattMillerEA: Saints will be dissatisfied to say the least after coming up short at home.
Mike Hill - @MikeHillEA: Big win at home for Miami. Like how the team came out after to applaud the home fans.
Mark Schlereth - @MarkSchlerethEA: Don't expect any team to go undefeated, but who will lose last?
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: Are any of the undefeated teams going to make it to 10-0?
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: Today did not disappoint in terms of drama, as the rival Panthers and Falcons take it down to the wire.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: If the Lions defense wants to be elite, there's work to do. They had 11 sacks, but could have been more.
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: I could watch Ben Roethlisberger drop back all day. Great game to get the Steelers the win.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: Poor recognition by the Ravens today. Needed to make it harder on A. Brown today.
Robert Flores - @RoFloEA: I'm no expert, but A. Brown certainly looked good enough to be a top option this week.
Adam Schefter - @AdamSchefterEA: Daniel Thomas ripped off 2 TDs en route to a Dolphins victory.
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: Multiple scores by LeSean McCoy leads #Eagles to victory this week.
Ross Tucker - @RossTuckerEA: Andy Dalton was throwing TD passes today like it was his job! Though, I guess it is..
Mike Hill - @MikeHillEA: QB is usually the calming presence, but seemed like A. Green took that role today.
Lavar Arrington - @LArringtonEA: The Chargers defense had all the answers against an under-performing Bears O-line, tally 6 sacks.
Mike Hill - @MikeHillEA: Banner for 49ers D -- rock Redskins QB for 5 sacks.
Trey Wingo - @WonigzEA: The Cardinals trainer's biggest job this week is massaging the wounded egos of their O-line.
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: After catching 2 TD passes, J. Gordon is going to need to get ready for plenty of interviews.
Matt Miller - @MattMillerEA: And the game ball goes to.. Aaron Rodgers. Big surprise, right? #Packers
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: The Eagles were handling the Rams with kid gloves by the end of the game.
Mark Schlereth - @MarkSchlerethEA: There's no good way to cover Reggie Wayne. Runs great routes and has great moves after the fact. #recordwatch
Chris Mortensen - @mortreportEA: The Lions' 6th ranked offense pulls off the win vs. the Buccaneers.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: Home field advantage trumps sleeping in a strange bed. Steelers get the win.

Adam Schefter - @AdamSchefterEA: Team officials putting the timetable on Karlos Dansby's return at around a month.
Skip Bayless - @SkipBaylessEA: Not to be cruel, but not sure how much the Texans will miss J. Tuggle now that he's done for the season.
