Coach Miles Perry was reminded of his glory days after a huge win on Saturday. The Owls dominated Middle Tennessee from start to finish in an impressive 45-14 victory. Quarterback Jaquez Johnson was nearly perfect, finishing the game 24/29 with 250 yards and 3 touchdowns. Freshman running back Trey Rodriguez had a breakout game with 163 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries. The Owls defense was also exceptional.
"Every coach pictures a game going exactly like this when you put together your game plan on Monday," Perry said. After a shaky start (MTSU's first play on offense was a 40 yard touchdown off a wide receiver screen) FAU recovered well and kept the Blue Raiders out of the endzone until late in the fourth quarter. When asked about the progression of his team so far this season Perry responded, "I'm very pleased with the direction this team is headed. We started out the season with two losses against great programs, and then we gutted out a victory over Tulsa. We just have to make sure these guys don't get cocky or complacent. We have to continue to get better every day."
FAU will play at home against Texas State next Saturday. It has been rumored that some important recruits will be in attendance, but Perry has not yet confirmed.Comment

FAU dominated once again this past Saturday. Texas State went home with a 47-12 loss. The Owls now move to 3-2 on the season after another impressive performance.
After a slow start, FAU's offense took off in the second quarter. Just 11 seconds in William Dukes caught an 11 yard TD pass. 1:11 later Jaquez Johnson found Troy Rodriguez on a screen pass that went 26 yards for a TD. Johnson went 19/31 with 232 yards, 4 TDs and 2 INTs. Rodriguez pitched in with 27 rushes for 201 yards and a touchdown. Dukes caught 6 passes for 94 yards and a touchdown.
Once again the FAU defense impressed. Texas State was kept out of the endzone. The Owls had 14 tackles for a loss and held the Bobcats to 288 yards. It seemed like every time Texas State got something going on offense the FAU D responded with a stop on 3rd down.
"When T-Rod took that screen pass to the house I knew we were gonna go on and win. The offense got those wheels spinning and we just took off!" said an elated Coach Perry after the game.
"Coach could you comment on the play of your quarterback today?"
"Johnson had a rough first quarter, but he bounced back and was very impressive. He does a lot of little things most of y'all don't notice. He has the freedom to check to certain plays at the line of scrimmage, and there were a few big time plays that directly resulted from his checks at the line."
"Coach, when you named a true freshman your starting halfback did you think you would see this kind of production?"
"Owls fans are in for a real treat over the next four years with T-Rod. He's a patient runner, and he can read the line incredibly well. I didn't think he'd be breaking any school records so soon (201 yards today was a new school record), but I'm sure not complaining!"
FAU has a bye week next week, and plays at Marshall week 7.Comment

The FAU Owls erased a 21 point deficit to complete the comeback and beat UNT 31-24 on Saturday. FAU started very slow, once again, but were able to get the wheels turning after a miserable first quarter yesterday. The defense, which looked dazed and confused, turned up the intensity and only allowed a field goal the rest of the game. The Owls offense racked up over 500 yards once again.
With just over 5 minutes to play in the fourth quarter quarterback Jaquez Johnson scrambled out of the pocket and found a wide open Hakeeme Ishmar in the middle of the field. FAU then forced UNT to go three and out, getting the ball back with just over 4 minutes to go. The Owls picked up a first down and then were held to a 3rd and 8 with 2:30 to play. Johnson hit senior WR Lucky Whitehead on a screen that picked up 14. UNT burned its 3 timeouts and forced a 3rd and 14. This time Johnson found RB Trey Rodriguez on a screen that went for 29 and the Owls were able to run out the clock!
"Coach, how did you guys pull this one out? Down 21-0, most teams can't come back from that kind of deficit."
"Well we persevered. We stuck to our offense, and didn't change anything. It was only a matter of time before we got rolling and started to execute. When we get going, we're a tough team to stop."
"Coach could you speak a little on the play of your defense today?"
"The defense was great. We've gotta get them some more help in the first quarter though. These slow starts will come back to haunt us eventually. They hung in there and really started to make plays from that second quarter on. We made a few adjustments and were able to slow UNT down."
FAU heads in to their second bye week with a 4-3 record, 2-1 in conference.Last edited by Miles Perry; 08-04-2014, 04:19 PM.Comment
