    Re: NHL 2014 Off-Season Thread

Seems like this is something I will like since I hate the whole "tanking for draft position" discussion/notion.

I like that this seems to decrease the chances that the worst team in the league is rewarded for being so bad.

LOL, Sharks stripped Thornton of the C and Marleau of the A.

        I'm sure that'll fix everything.

If you're gonna do something so aesthetic like that, seems like it would've been wiser to trade them. Though that may have not been possible with their contracts.

I feel like that's such a low blow move, though. Then again, maybe they think if those guys can just focus on being good hockey players instead of having to be the leaders and captain of their team on top of being good hockey players, it'll benefit the whole team.

I doubt we look back on this move and say, this was when the Sharks changed, for better or worse. They're just "that team" of this recent era. Not every really good team can win a Stanley Cup when they're contending with other great teams of their era (PIT, DET, BOS, CHI, LA).

I have no clue how NBA lottery works. From my understanding, only the teams that finished 26~30 can move up/down in the draft lottery.

I don't think neither Thornton nor Marleau was going to waive their NTC. Their big acquisition signing in the offseason has been John Scott, yet, when the fail once again in the playoffs, both Thornton and Marleau will be blamed.

Apparently it's "open for everyone" and that it's possible for them to "earn" their Captain/Assistant captain status back.

Steve Simmons went on TSN this morning and said no team would ever win the Stanley Cup with Antii Niemi in goal.
