    Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

    February 2018 - Season 5

    Leicester City 0 - 5 AFC Wimbledon
    WIM: Murphy 6' 45' Gornell 50' Clayton 81' 90'
    Wimbledon faced relegation candidates Leicester City as they continue to fight for a European spot on the league table. Leicester had a competitive squad at the beginning of the season, but after selling their star goalkeeper Schmeichel they quickly fell to the bottom of the table and have struggled getting out of the relegation zone. Wimbledon exposed their weakness between the posts and obtained a much needed win.

    Europa League - Round of 32
    AFC Wimbledon 1 - 1 Borussia Mönchengladbach
    WIM: Gornell 14'
    MON: De Jong 90'
    The Dons were so close to ending the first leg with an advantage on the aggregate scoreline but the Germans were able to grab a very important away goal right before the final whistle. The English side will now have to travel to Germany with the aggregate against their favor.

    FA Cup - Round 5
    AFC Wimbledon 4 - 0 Brentford
    WIM: May 8' Harvey 15' L. Moore 30' Clayton 79'
    The team from League 1 were no match for the Premier League side and have been eliminated with a painful scoreline after getting so far in the tournament. Youth academy graduate Craig May has proven to be very dangerous with his 6'5" height in corner kicks, while Max Clayton continues to be an impact sub even when his team is already winning when he is subbed in.

    Europa League - Round of 32
    Borussia Mönchengladbach 0(1) - 1(2) AFC Wimbledon
    WIM: Clayton 90'
    A back and forth match where Wimbledon needed a goal to void the Germans' away goal while their rivals tried to extend their lead. Chavez made a very risky decision to use his B team tonight and it almost cost him the Europa League. They alternative squad did not play bad at all, but they just couldn't score, until Max Clayton came on to the field in the second half and scored the goal to put them through to the next round. Wimbledon had a goal kick in stoppage time, youth goalkeeper Adam Cowie was instructed to send it high up the pitch and he did immediately. The ball flew towards Mönchengladbach's defensive half where Sam Vokes used the top of his head to just head it forward towards Max Clayton who then used his speed to get to it before his marker and defeat Ter Stegen in the 1 on 1.

    AFC Wimbledon 4 - 0 West Ham
    WIM: Gornell 28' 40' James 68' Clayton 89'
    Wimbledon returned to London with a big win against West Ham and took a big step towards the top of the table. West Ham were completely outplayed by the Wombles and barely managed to get 2 shots on goal and 39% possession. The Player of The Month award was announced a few days after this match and it was awarded to Wimbledon's own Terry Gornell!

    Barclay's Premier League Table
    1. Manchester United - 62 points
    2. Arsenal - 59 points
    3. Tottenham - 57 points
    4. Chelsea - 51 points
    5. AFC Wimbledon - 50 points
    6. Manchester City - 48 points
    7. Newcastle United - 48 points
    8. Liverpool - 47 points
    ----------
    18. Middlesbrough - 16 points
    19. Norwich City - 13 points
    20. Leicester City - 10 points

    BPL Top Scorer
    1. Gornell (Wimbledon) - 21 Goals
    2. Cavani (M. United) - 17 Goals
    3. Montero (Everton) - 14 Goals

    Notable Youth Academy Players

    Chris McGinn - DEF/MID (43-53, 82-94):
    The 16 year old from Northern Ireland has recently joined the Wimbledon academy but we can already see that this young player has a great future ahead of him.

    Conor Marsden - ST (50-54, 73-77): This 17 year old from England may not have much potential, but he is a an exciting player due to his height: 6'4". Chavez is anxious to bring him up as he can fill in the target man position Hanson left behind, but he wants to wait at least one more season before calling him up.

    Dean Rhodes - LB (60-64, 86-92): We thought Chavez would call this 16 year old from Scotland to the senior team but it looks like Chavez wants him to spend one more season with the U-17.

    Jamie Mannus - CDM (49-51, 82-88): This 15 year old from Northern Ireland has a bright future ahead of him. He stands at 6'5" and prefers playing as a defensive midfielder. Competition between him and Sean Archer in the U-17 is very close, with Mannus being more defensive minded. We expect great things from these two players.

    Mark Watt - GK (56-60, 79-85): The 17 year old from Scotland looked set to be promoted last season, but Chavez decided to give him one more season with the U-17. He may be promoted next May.

    Matt Cameron - CAM (50-56, 77-85): The 15 year old from England is one of the most recent signings to the youth academy and we're still learning from the attacking midfielder.

    Michael Thompson - CAM/CF (48-50, 82-88): The 16 year old from Northern Ireland has been impressing with the U-17 this year, particularly with his strength. He is hard to push off the ball, but he may not be promoted until next season.

    Scott Stewart - LB (59-63, 80-86): The 16 year old from Scotland shows a lot of promise but may be used as a CB by Chavez due to his defensive mentality. There's a high chance he'll be promoted next season.

    Sean Archer - CDM (50-54, 85-91): The 15 year old from Scotland is an incredible playmaker who prefers to stay in the defensive half and analyze the game from there. He's one of the most exciting players in the U-17 but he will not be eligible to be registered with the senior squad until next season.

    Press Conference

    Q: Good evening Mr. Chavez, Chico Bass from HYFCMG here. You've recorded some big wins this month and returned to a European spot on the league table after falling to 8th place last month. What have you done differently to achieve this?

    A: "Hi, good evening. Well we all know that we need to take advantage of these matches before we face the big teams. We step onto the pitch with the 3 points in mind and don't accept anything less. The players play their heart out each week and that's what has helped us reach our position on the table."

    Q: You decided to use the B team for the 2nd leg against Borussia Mönchengladbach and you were very close to being eliminated from the competition as a result. Why did you choose not to field your starting eleven for such an important match?

    A: "I didn't see a reason not to use the B team. We know Mönchengladbach has talented players and De Jong is one of the cup's top scorers, but I just didn't see anything in the 1st leg that the B team wouldn't be able to handle and they proved that they are capable by keeping a clean sheet. Adam Cowie has been in great form since his return from loan and the new signings Wilson and Stephens have been vital in the back 3. I'm impressed by Craig May too. Another thing to consider was the fact that we had the West Ham game scheduled just two days after the Mönchengladbach game."

    Q: How are you preparing for your upcoming cup matches against Aston Villa in the FA Cup and LOSC Lille in the Europa League?

    A: "Same as every match: with the win in mind. We had a big win against Villa earlier this year but in football anything can happen especially in cup matches. Lille are currently in 2nd place in the French Ligue 1 so we know we're going to have to play two great matches in order to reach the quarter finals. Jwetson did an outstanding job with Lille when he was manager and left behind a strong core with the French side. This will certainly be a difficult match for us.

    International Friendlies

    Belgium 2 - 1 Scotland
    SCO: Russell 10'
    BEL: De Bruyne 63' Dembele 90'
    Chavez used the 4-3-3 Attack for the first time with Scotland and started the match playing really well, but in the second half their offensive kick died down and Belgium were able to take the win.

    Brazil 3 - 2 Scotland
    SCO: Armstrong 11' Rhodes 45'
    BRA: Oscar 58' Pato 82' 86'
    Again, Scotland began the match well and had a 2-0 lead going into halftime, but Brazil and Alexander Pato were able to flip the scoreline and took the win. Jason Cummings from Reading, made his international debut with Scotland and made several impressive saves, but was not able to cope with Pato's long shots. Chavez also tried out more players in this match, like Halliday as RB, Ryan Jack as LDM, and Jordan Rhodes as ST. Each competing with Shinnie, Bridcutt, and Russell respectively for a World Cup starting spot.

    Press Conference

    Q: Hello again Mr. Chavez. Two defeats in this month's friendlies, and only two more friendlies left before the World Cup. In both of these matches you started off winning but lost the lead. There are a lot of worried faces in the stadium, are you worried?

    A: "No, not worried at all. I think we played great matches actually. Belgium was a tough one simply because it is always hard playing against a team that has all eleven of their players in their defensive half. Brazil was tough to take in because of the fact we gave up a 2-0 lead but it helped us find the areas we need to make changes in. I think we'll be ready for the World Cup."

    Q: In the World Cup qualifiers, Scotland was a team to be feared. Everybody knew that your weak point was the defense, but your powerful attack made it difficult to expose the defense. That was achieved with a 4-3-3 False 9 and Ross McCormack as the leading top scorer. After the qualifiers both the False 9 formation and McCormack are gone and Scotland doesn't have that offensive power it used to.

    A: "Yes I'm well aware of all of that and believe me we are working to return to those heights, but we are not planning on returning to the False 9 formation. McCormack (74) is extremely talented but so is Johnny Russell (78) and Jordan Rhodes (76). McCormack is perfect for the CF position but right now we are going for a more natural striker."

    Q: With all the formation changes this season, have you considered using the 3-5-2 formation that you use with AFC Wimbledon?

    A: "It has been brought it up during staff meetings, but we haven't gave it much thought. We do have the players to play with a backline of 3, but I don't think it is the right playing style for Scotland. We tried a 4-2-3-1 earlier this year to try and fix our defensive struggles, but we are pretty set on returning to a 4-3-3 which I believe fits the Scottish players' style perfectly."

    Upcoming Friendlies: Republic of Ireland & France

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    *I'm expecting McCormack to have another stat decline the May before the World Cup so that's why I keep trying different strikers. The False 9 was perfect but unfortunately age has caught up to my star player. I would have loved to have Steven Fletcher in the squad as well as he could fit nicely in a 4-3-3 Holding like I used in the Euros, but he retired early from Sunderland.
    That's all I have this time.
    Thanks for reading!
      Great month of results for the 'Dons. Only 1 point out of Champions League, but damn are those some good teams ahead of you. Has anyone else noticed that Tottenham always seem to get really good in almost every career mode? Nice little scare in the Europa League there it would seem as well. Only a few months left in the season, I can't wait to see how it shapes up across all competitions.
        Liga BBVA Standings
        1. FC Barcelona - 35pts (15 GP)
        2. Real Madrid - 32pts
        3. AD Alcorcon - 30pts
        4. Valencia CF - 28pts
        5. Sevilla FC - 26pts
        6. Villareal CF - 26pts
        ...
        18. Real Valladolid - 11pts
        19. Celta Vigo - 6pts
        20. Real Betis - 4pts
        So close. We jumped to 2nd place after a hard-earned W at Bilbao and outplayed Real Madrid at home but unfortunately our back line made a mistake passing the ball which led to Suarez's first score and he did some pretty nifty work in his second score to put the visitors ahead for good. That really hurt since I would be in first place if I had been able to pull out that W. Admittedly Salawu's goal was somewhat lucky in that he found the ball on a cross from the right that wasn't meant for him and fired a bouncing shot that Neuer had no chance against, but we just outplayed the Merengues throughout and deserved better. Neuer is a stud though. Played the B team in the cup and it almost cost me but I kept my faith in my backup strikers and they came through. I may play a mix of starters and subs in the 2nd leg. Nice comeback against Mallorca. Rondon is starting to breakout after a quiet start to the season, maybe it took him some time to get acclimated but now he is tied for lead in team goals with 6 (Paredes). Suarez leads the league with 14 and he'll probably run away with the golden boot.
        As far as the academy is concerned our 5-star scout finished his 3-month trip to Venezuela where he found all kinds of talent that I'll be able to use for the national team. Some of it was too good to pass on and so we made some more additions to the academy. Here's the youth squad:
        - Andre Meirelles (CM, 65-69, 87-93): 17 Y/O from Brazil is a great prospect without who wouldn't have a role with the team at the moment. We're going to work out a contract with him soon and probably send him on short loan in this upcoming transfer window.
        - Adam Lee (CDM, 56-60, 73-79): 17 Y/O from England who will probably never play for the team, will soon be brought up and sold as he's not likely to progress much more in the academy.
        - Markus Goretzka (CB, 56-60, 73-79): 17 Y/O from Germany is probably on the same boat as Lee though there's a small chance he may stay in the academy for the rest of the season.
        - Lansana Afrani (LB, 62-66, 87-93): 16 Y/O from Cameroon would have a much quicker chance to make an immediate impact if he had the pace to play fullback. His ratings suggest he'll fit best at CB.
        - Kyle Buwalda (LW, 55-59 76-82): 16 Y/O from the Netherlands needs to stay in the academy all season, likely to be a loan candidate when promoted.
        - Jens Stevens (LM, 54-58, 73-79): The now 16 Y/O from Netherlands is still being developed.
        - Bart Gorter (CAM, 64-68, 86-92): 16 Y/O from Netherlands labeled as a playmaker is an exciting prospect.
        - Joey Hoesen (LW, 54-58, 71-75): 15 Y/O from Netherlands whose potential is lower than we anticipated.
        - Samuel Amodako (LM/LW, 53-57, 70-74): 16 Y/O from Cameroon is still being developed.
        - Jomar Mayat (LW 52-56, 72-76): 16 Y/O from Cameroon who we're hoping to develop as a striker.
        - Javier Marquez (CB, 44-54, 80-94): 16 Y/O from Venezuela has been better than anticipated so far and is already settled at a position. High-ceiling prospect.
        - Ivan Contreras (CB, 35-45, 65-83): 16 Y/O from Venezuela is now settled at a position where his 6'2" frame is best suited.
        - Victor Jimenez (MID, 38-46, 71-89): 15 Y/O from Venezuela will not be a defender and we expect he'll best fit as a CM.
        - Damian Silva (CB, 38-46, 70-86)*: 16 Y/O from Venezuela standing at 6'3", 178lbs.
        - Fernando Romero (MID/ATT, 44-58, 67-89)*: 15 Y/O from Venezuela signed in hopes that he'll develop into a CF/ST.
        - Juan Aguilar (DEF/MID, 44-58, 81-94)*: 16 Y/O from Venezuela has stood out as as defender.
        * Denotes recent addition to the Y.A.
        And that's all for now. I think I'm going to repeat what I did last season and play out December and January because once I get into the transfer window is hard to stop there. I'm going to be looking to find a new starting LB while also considering an upgrade at CB though I'm pretty happy with Omar Gonzalez and Soares Martins. Although I've missed a chance to be at the top of the standings my goal for this season was to be exactly where I am right now and to know that I am keeping the pressure on the big boys is amazing. I just have to keep up these performances and even improve a little and I'm sure Barca and Real will slip at some point. We're only getting started.
          Stupid Real! You'd be sitting barely behind Barca at #2 if you could have taken 3 points from that game. The fact that you are competing with those huge clubs so closely though goes to show how far you have brought this team.
          Also, great youth academy prospects! Especially those new Venezuelan additions.
            excellent work in the BPL to be among those 8 top teams in the league is an accomplishment in and it of itself. As you said it's important to beat the teams you're supposed to beat and hopefully get some points against the big boys as well. You can almost smell that Champions' spot.
                It depends on what type of team you want and how you want to build it. Atletico just lost their 3 best players, IMO, Diego Costa, Diego, and Courtois. So they are in need of some help now. Dortmund could be fun but they also just lost one of their best players to their rival Munich in Lewandowski. And I don't know much about Roma.
                  I've noticed that too! Tottenham are beasts in my CM right now. I still remember when they welcomed me to the BPL with a big 4-1 defeat. Doesn't help that they have Leandro Paredes now (Thanks a lot Rabbit! :P) I was dying in the end of that Europa League match I couldn't believe I was so close to getting knocked out. Luckily my impact sub Max Clayton was present to save my a**!
                  So close but yet so far away! The matches against the others in the top 8 will be like cup finals. The worst part is that all of those teams use formations that make it difficult to effectively run a 3-5-2.
                    Pride of Berlin
                    August 2016
                    Transfers In:
                    DeAndre Yedlin
                    76 Ovr, Right Back, 24 Years Old
                    €3,200,000
                    Hertha BSC completed their cheapest signing of the summer with the arrival of the American fullback DeAndre Yedlin. The young US international had one year left on his contract and he joined for a bit over three million euros the German champions from Seattle Sounders in the MLS. Yedlin is really fast and attacking minded full back who has a big potential. He will get some games in the Bundesliga as a probable second-choice right back.
                    Stefan Reinartz
                    78 Ovr, Central Defensive Midfielder, 27 Years Old
                    €3,500,000
                    Ganchev's Hertha have confirmed the signing of German holding midfielder Stefan Reinartz from Bayer Leverkusen. He's another player who had one year left on his contract which lead to a cheap price. Reinartz is a good substitute who will play when Nemanja Matic is unavailable.
                    Alberto Moreno
                    81 Ovr, Left Back, 24 Years Old
                    €9,700,000
                    A surprising signing which will made some fans happy was Ganchev's decision to buy the Spanish left back Alberto Moreno from Sevilla. It's reported that Ganchev started scouting Moreno after Hertha's Champions League matches with Sevilla when Moreno kept Gareth Bale in his pocket through both games. The Spaniard is really fast and he likes to attack a lot, which leads to him being able to play on the wing like another Spanish left back, Jordi Alba. It's still not sure what Ganchev will do with Marcos Rojo and Moreno who are competing for the left back spot.
                    Daniel Carvajal
                    81 Ovr, Right Back, 24 Years Old
                    €14,000,000
                    Another fullback who got bought by Hertha, this time in the last our of the transfer window was Dani Carvajal. The Spaniard is Real Madrid's youth product and he had a successful comeback season winning La Decima and taking Arbeloa's place. Carvajal is a straight replacement for Sebastian Jung who departed in the window. Carvajal is faster and more agile but also weaker than Jung but the Spanish man is more attacking and faster. This will be Carvajal's second spell in Germany after playing for Leverkusen in 2013. The right back will form an ex-Real Madrid partnership with Gareth Bale on the right wing.
                    Thomas Müller
                    87 Ovr, Right Midfielder, 27 Years Old
                    €20,000,000
                    The biggest and most expensive signing made by Ganchev's Hertha in the summer was buying the German star striker/wide midfielder, Thomas Müller, from Bayern Munich. The German attacker arrived for only 20 million euros which is considered as a bargain. Müller is a great attacker with his exceptional positioning and finishing. He can play in every attacking position on the pitch and he will do well in any of them. Hertha's supporters are really happy about the signing, but there's one question about the signing: where will he play?
                    Hertha were looking to end their terrible form and get the three points against Leverkusen but it wasn't meant to be. Hertha's defence made two mistakes which lead to two goals. The Berliners tried to equalise but they couldn't get anything done except for a consulation goal by Thomas Müller. The loss put the holding champions in the bottom half of the table.
                    Press Conference
                    Good Afternoon. You had some terrible results this month which lead to you being in eleventh. What do you think about this?
                    The results were absolutely horrible but so was our game. When you play poorly you get poor results, that's often the case. We were terrible in defence, alright in midfield and terrible in attack. This kind of form can not continue and we are doing our best to start winning matches. I'm working really hard with the players and with the staff and I hope we can improve.
                    Why did you play so badly?
                    I don't know at all. The team has become stronger on paper but on the pitch the team plays like bunch of kids. We are trying to find the problem and fix it. Maybe it's our playing style or maybe our players aren't focusing enough, I don't know.
                    Are you afraid of being fired?
                    No, I'm not. The club wouldn't do something like that to a man who has made this team into a feared force. In football the owners are usually short-sighted and they don't think about the future or the accomplisments of the managers. Here in Hertha the owners are different. They trust in their staff and they forgive our small mistakes.
                    Let's talk about transfers. Could you explain all the deals?
                    Let's start with the sales. Daley Blind was terrible for us last season and we got a good offer for him. Now we have a better player in Reinartz who we got for a lot cheaper. Enner (Valencia) was really good for us but with the arrival of Alex (Lacazette) who is a similar player we didn't really need him and, once again, the deal was good. Fabian Johnson and Peter Pekarik just aren't good enough for the team and they were unhappy in lack of playing time. We brought DeAndre (Yedlin) to replace Pekarik and Alberto (Moreno) and Marcos (Rojo) will play on the left with Alberto taking the bigger role. Dani (Carvajal) was bought because we needed a replacement for Sebastian (Jung). Lastly, we were able to get Thomas Müller for a great price and we needed that extra sharpness in our attack.
                    You have Galatasaray, Anderlecht and Lokomotiv Moscow in your Champions League group. Any thoughts?
                    They all are good teams who can surprise and they are equal sides. It will be interesting to see who of them will finish second in the group because the first place will be taken by us.
                    Thank you for reading the post! Any feedback and suggestions will be appreciated!
                      Simppu how in gods name did you get Muller for only €20,000,000. Also I love the Yedlin signing. I have had as my starter at right back because of speed and that he is attack minded. I usually work up the sidelines and get the ball to the middle. Muller should be great for you. One suggestion I do have for you though is to try and get a good striker so you can Muller back to his natural position of right mid because when I used him at Munich I played him outside and he still scored a ton. I mean your team should be nasty soon with Kovacic, Bale, & Muller.
                        Müller had one year left on his contract and his value was about €24 million. I started offering from €17 million and they accepted the €20 million bid which was awesome.
                        I played Müller on the right and on the left for few games but he wasn't that good there. Benteke was really bad so I decided to give Müller a shot in the middle and he's been really good there.
                          OK that makes sense on the contract and value part. And it could just be the style of play that I use then. Because I like to take the ball up the sideline and if there is an open shot I'll take it but if it isn't there I'll try to cross it and head it in.
                            I approve of the signing of Moreno. Had him in a career and he was my favourite player to use in the entire of this FIFA. I hope you have fun with him
                              Only just did my first FIFA 14 Career manager mode on XBox 360. I have 3 games left to play in my A-league season in control of the Central Coast Mariners. I've been playing on professional difficulty, but that has proved a little bit too straight forward. As Central Coast currently sit on top of the table 6 wins ahead of the Brisbane Roar. As we have 17 wins, 4 draws and no losses.
                              I currently have the top 3 goal scorers in the competition. Simon with 19 goals (missed 4 games) and Florres with 11 and Duke with 11. As well as having the top 2 assist men in the comp Duke with 11 and Florres with 8. And my keeper leads the league in clean sheets.
                              While the matchplay has been pretty stock standard it has been pretty good just to get used to the Youth Scouting System, Transfer Period and other management quirks. I figure I'll start a new one and see how much I can get done. Or wait until FIFA 15 on next gen to really get into it and work out a more competitive game play difficulty.
                                Had the most annoying game. First goal I gave up my keeper dove to make the stop, and the ball then deflects off my defender and slowly rolls to the opposite side of the goal that my goalie just dove to. The next two I played my defensive position perfectly forcing them outside and taking away the far post with my positioning, only to have my goalie give up both to the near post. The one part of the goal that he was supposed to be covering, and he lets two goals in there. Absolutely embarrassing for any keeper.
