Raiders Break the Tie in Final Battle of the Bay
Derek Carr had a breakout performance as the Raiders rolled over the 49ers in the final Battle of the Bay matchup.
Every few years, the Raiders cross paths in the regular season with their neighbors across the Bay, the 49ers. The regular season series between the two teams was tied at 6-6 when they last met in 2010, and with the Raiders moving north to Portland, this weekend's game marked the final rubber match for the series. And the Raiders bounced back from a humiliating loss to the Rams last week to win the matchup in style.
Coming in at 4-8, the 49ers weren't having a great year to begin with, and they struggled hard against an Oakland defense that seemed to have the team's number on every drive. They swarmed to ball carriers and held Frank Gore to a meager 2.6 yards per carry, and kept Colin Kaepernick rushed and contained.
The Raider defense was on point against San Francisco, smothering the offense all night.
The Raiders, on the other hand, scored steady points every quarter as Darren McFadden overtook Maurice Jones-Drew to have a strong game running, and Derek Carr showed off his passing skills by throwing for two touchdowns, and then running the ball in for a third score at the end of the game. Not only did the performance redeem the Raiders for dropping a game to the bottom-dwelling Rams, but it ended a highly charged rivalry with a final win for the Oakland fan base.
