Questionable drafting by the computer in myleague?

I was curious to know if the player ratings are just the opinion of my own scout?

The Detroit Pistons just drafted a 67 overall Center 1st overall. He was considered the 2nd best center available but ranked around 30th overall by all 3 ranking services. There were probably 20-25 guys rated much better than him available, including 4-5 in the 80's.

Just wondering what to make of this? I mean, I get drafting for needs, but..

Edit: I'm using default draft and scouting settings btw.

That center's name? Kwame Brown. Or Michael Olowakandi. I'm okay with the AI not having perfect information for drafting. You also didn't mention potential... is he a future beast?

It could be bust logic? IF it becomes an issue, control all 30 teams and pick for them! Thanks, 2K!

30 team is the way to go, logic is still broken unfortunately. top 10 ovr guys will often fall to late first, early second for the sake of it.

I simmed a couple of seasons the other day. A 77 overall rated guy fell to the 5th pick of the second round. There could very well been some kind of "medical issue" storyline logic tied to him during the process, but when I checked his player card after the draft, he had no increased risk at any body part.

but Anthony Bennett was a projected top 10 pick. the prospect in the OP's case was barely considered a first rounder. there's a difference between being good, and being projected to be good. a bust system is really hard to put into a game without being cheap, so (again) 30 team is the way to go.

Re: Questionable drafting by the computer in myleague?

I've seen it, still on the fence about it.

Here's why I'm okay with it so far:

                  1) scouting in NBA is relatively precise, much more so than in real life
                  2) players seem to usually reach their potential so far

We know that in real life, most 2nd round picks flame out. The success rate in the second half of the second round is particularly terrible. But as things currently work, I've seen a couple of really solid starters drop to the 2nd round, and a few studs get picked up in the back half of the first round. And that does happen in real life.

Hell, how did Paul George fall as far as he did? Chandler Parsons? Patty Mills or Manu Ginobli? As an imperfect solution to creating the effect of finding gems later in the draft and seeing some teams pick awful players earlier (Darko Milicic anyone), I'm okay with it for now. Pending further data.

I forgot to mention that the center I'm referring to had a potential of C-. Simmed a year and he didn't even play a single minute all year.

I've also seen guys rated in the late 70's and even early 80's - with no injury concerns - last all the way until the mid 20's.

Re: Questionable drafting by the computer in myleague?

No I agree. I had the 3rd pick as well as the 27th pick in the first round. The two top picks were random scrubs who were mid to late 1st round projected players so I had my choice of top players. By the time I came around for the 27th pick I picked the 5th ranked player by most draft sites. The logic is broken and this is getting unacceptable. I don't want the hassle of dealing with all 30 teams and having to work with not trying to be bias for trades. This shouldn't be an excuse/work around. The game should work.

That being said, it's about the ONLY thing left in this mode that needs to be fixed and I will be happy for the rest of the year!

For those that are disappointed that they're getting to draft top 3 studs in the later stages of the draft, just don't take them. Let the player slide further and take the role player you would normally take. Sure, these players shouldn't drop, but if you hoard them all, then at least don't complain that you have too many awesome players.

I get that argument, and I did that all of last year. But it still breaks the game because the Spurs could take him, or any other good team. I get your argument, but that doesn't mean it isn't broken and should be fixed. I understand that its early, it's a huge game and they added even more to it, but it shouldn't be on the users to have to fix something like this themselves.

I haven't tried MyLeague yet; been messing around with MyGM.

In that mode, I had the #2 pick and the guy that went #1 was the #3 prospect, a 7'2" center from Turkey. I took the #1 guy with my pick, and then got the #2 prospect with the 6th pick.

There were a couple 73-76 overall guys that lasted until the late 1st-early 2nd, but they were all SFs. It was a loaded SF draft.
