    NASCAR 2015 moves and transactions

Time to start the transactions and updates thread for the 2015 season in all 3 major NASCAR series.

Breaking news Michael Waltrip racing has just announced that Brian Vickers will miss the first part of the 2015 season due to health issues.

    Sprint to End NASCAR Sponsorship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Sprint has informed NASCAR that it will not extend its title sponsorship of the organization's top-tier racing series beyond the current contract, which expires after the 2016 season.

Sprint has been the entitlement sponsor for NASCAR's top series since 2004, when Nextel signed a 10-year agreement for the Nextel Cup Series. The name changed to the Sprint Cup Series in 2008 following the corporate merger between Nextel and Sprint.
So, wonder who the next title sponsor will be.
Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII
    Penguins : 1990/91, 1991/92, 2008/09, 20015/16, 2016/17
    Pirates : 1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1979
    Panthers (FB): 1915, 1916, 1918, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1976
    Panthers (MBB): 1927/28, 1929/30

I wonder if this is the opportunity Wal-Mart jumps into the NASCAR circle. Wasn't it rumored that Wal-Mart wanted something bigger than a main sponsorship with Jeff Gordon a few years back when he was looking for one, before he got Drive to End Hunger?
NFL: Houston Texans / Carolina Panthers
      NBA: Indiana Pacers
      MLB: Cleveland Indians
      NCAA: Purdue Boilermakers
      NASCAR: Ryan Newman

One day, Purdue Men's Basketball and Football will become relevant again.

Busch said Driscoll repeatedly asserted her assassin status and claimed the work took her on missions across Central and South America and Africa.

He recounted one time when the couple was in El Paso, Texas. He said Driscoll left in camouflage gear only to return later wearing a trench coat over an evening gown covered with blood.

A day earlier, Busch said his ex-girlfriend told him she was a mercenary who killed people for a living and had shown him pictures of bodies with gunshot wounds.

2015 Will be Jeff Gordon's Final Full time Season:

Jeff Gordon has one more shot for a fifth Sprint Cup Series championship.

The four-time Sprint Cup Series champion announced Thursday that 2015 will be his final full-time season in the Cup Series.

“As a race car driver, much of what I’ve done throughout my life has been based on following my instincts and trying to make good decisions,” Gordon said in a team statement. “I thought long and hard about my future this past year and during the offseason, and I’ve decided 2015 will be the last time I compete for a championship. I won’t use the ‘R-word’ because I plan to stay extremely busy in the years ahead, and there’s always the possibility I’ll compete in selected events, although I currently have no plans to do that.

I'm surprised. But bummed out by this too. he's had a great career. Wish he could have gotten #5, hope he does this year then.

It's going to be hard to watch once Gordon retires. It's all I've ever known.

I grew up watching NASCAR as a fan of the #24 (I was born in 1992). I have always been a Jeff Gordon fan as long as I can remember. It's going to be surreal without him out there... and it's going to be very sad.

I'll continue to watch just like I do with Indy and F1 without a favorite driver, but it's really unfortunate, especially since I think he has another few good years ahead of him and could make a run at 100 wins. That being said, it would have sucked if he stayed past his prime and slid into irrelevancy in his later years as a lot of NASCAR greats have (Petty, both Labontes, Mark Martin, etc.).

As far as another driver to root for, I guess there's always Chase Elliot since I'd assume he will be taking Jeff's ride, but I don't know. I kind of like Kyle Larson, I guess... but it just isn't the same.

I'd assume this move has been planned for sometime given Hendrick's reupping of Kahne's contract last year.

I would love to have seen him get to 100 wins as well. I think the important part of the statement yesterday though was he simply said it's his last full time season. I think we're still going to see Jeff on the track, but I think he's giving up his seat at Hendrick to run fulltime so they can bump up Chase Elliott. I think we'll see Jeff pull a bit of a Mark Martin for the next little while. Part of me though really wonders how much this decision has to do with moving up Elliott though.

Before Jeff packs it in for good though, I really hope he gets to 100.

Going to be strange watching races without the 24 out there with Gordon in it. He's the one that got me into the sport as well way back when.

At least we get one last year, an entire season, to watch and appreciate him on the track. I think that's good, rather than just being hit with the news after Homestead next year. We'll get a chance to watch, and hopefully get several more memories.
