Cooper Departs, Keane Comes In
After 16 months in charge of the club Collin Cooper has left Hartlepool by mutual consent. It believed him and Ken Hodcroft, the Chairman, had an argument about transfer policy and it led to the termination of Mr. Cooper's contract. Less than a week later James Keane has been appointed the new manager of Hartlepool United. The 35 year old Irishman has taken over the club with immediate effect. He signed a 3 year deal and this is his first foray into management after previously being a youth team coach at Swansea City. He has set a goal of getting to the Premier League and becoming one of the best teams in the world. Something many people believe is impossible and will never be done. Keane has been given total control over the transfers but it is understood that it will be a British only policy. ~ Sky Sports News July 1st

Press Conference

Congratulations on becoming the new manager, how do you feel about the job?

I'm very happy to be here as the manager and be a part of this football club. When Mr. Hodcroft rang me about the job and asked me to meet him at first I was thinking why would I come here, then when I met him he really sold the club and the long term plan to me and how I would be a big part of it.

Don't you think you are a bit inexperienced for this job?

Everyone has to start somewhere and that somewhere is at Hartlepool for me. I think we can achieve great things at this football club and be a real powerhouse in years to come.

There has been rumours of you wanting to take the club to the Premier League and become one of the best in the world. Surely they are just rumours?

No they aren't actually. I really believe we can do it with the right structure, drive and ambition. Come back to me in 10 years and I'll guarantee we'll be at the top of the Premier League.

There has also been talk of a British only transfer policy. Is this true?

Yes it is. I'm a firm believer in home grown talent and that is why the Youth Academy will play a big role too. I will only bring in players from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. I want us to be a club like Athletic Bilbao with their Basque only policy. I want to prove that home grown talent can win the Premiership.

What are your goals for the season ahead?

To win the league. It's as simple as that. Anything less and it's a failure. We need to set high standards at this football club for the present and future.

Do you have any particular transfer targets in mind?

Yes but I'm not going to talk about them to the media as it'll only drive the prices up. Something that we cannot afford to happen as funds are limited.

Good Luck Mr. Keane.

Thank you gentlemen.

Well there you have it, my new career. I'll post the squad, goals, budget etc. tomorrow once I actually fire it up and start it. Anything you guys would like put into it or just any feedback would be appreciated!
