Exeter City F.C
FIFA 15 – Season 3

The Grecians

March
SkyBet League 1 Match:

Barnsley 0 – Exeter City 3

EXE – Cole (33’)
First in the league face second in the league. Jordan Moore-Taylor boots the ball up-field from the half-way line and the ball falls straight to Cole on the edge of the box. He skips past a sliding challenge to beat the keeper at his near post.

EXE –Cranie (OG) (37’)
Appiah on left crosses in low. Barnsley captain, Martin Cranie gets touch on the ball under the pressure of Devante Cole. It rolls past the off-balance goalkeeper and Exeter now have a two goal lead.

Unfortunately, Devante Cole was forced off at half-time. (Replaced for Matthew Jay)

EXE Appiah (47’)
Appiah slides in to win the ball off of the keeper and then he just has to tap the ball into the open goal.

Our Best Performer: Kwabena Appiah

Exeter City: Champions of League One!
Exeter City have won the Football League 1 title to cap off a strong season for the, as yet, unbeaten champions. “We were simply consistent which is one of the biggest reasons for winning the title,” stated a very happy Bee.

SkyBet League 1 Match:

Exeter City 2 – Gillingham 1

GIL – Loft (PEN) (4’)
Doug Loft is just inside the area as Liam Sercombe slides in recklessly to give away a penalty. Loft takes the penalty and he beats the keeper by feinting and then putting the ball down the middle.

EXE –Cole (22’)
Jake Sinclair picks the ball up on the right and creates a little space for himself. He whips the ball into the middle where the unmarked Devante Cole can take a touch and volley the ball past the keeper.

EXE Cole (60’)
Appiah sprints down the left and then cuts inside. He spots the run of Devante Cole at the back post and Appiah flicks the ball over the defence for Cole to just nod the ball into the goal.

Our Best Performer: Devante Cole

SkyBet League 1 Match:

Peterborough 1 – Exeter City 2

PET – Rentería (9’)
Emilio Rentería collects the ball on the edge of the box and fends off Ribeiro as he rifles the ball into the top right corner.

EXE –Sinclair (PEN) (33’)
Christian Burgess goes flying into Albian Ajeti in the box to give away a penalty. Jake Sinclair steps up and calmly puts it down the middle for the equaliser.

EXE – Sinclair (48’)
Just after the break, Ajeti dashes down the right wing and delivers a low ball under pressure past the outstretched hand of the keeper and to the back post where Sinclair taps the ball into the net.

Devante Cole is forced off the pitch in the fifty-sixth minute. (Replaced by Kwabena Appiah)

Our Best Performer: Jordan Moore-Taylor

J. Paint Trophy Final Match:

Exeter City 2 – Yeovil Town 1

YEO Davis (27’)
Liam Davies receives the ball from Joe Edwards on the left. The defence opens up for Davis who cuts into the box and curls the ball around the keeper.

EXE –Sinclair (32’)
Ajeti floats the ball over the defence and to Jake Sinclair who chips the keeper whilst under pressure.

EXE –Sinclair (PEN) (73’)
Brendan Moloney slides in recklessly whilst Kwabena Appiah sprints dangerously into the box. Sinclair takes the penalty and smashes it down the middle as the keeper dives to the right.

Our Best Performer: Jake Sinclair

Exeter City Win the J. Paint Trophy
Exeter City defeated Yeovil Town to win the J. Paint Trophy before thousands of supporters in what will be remembered as a remarkable finale. The Exeter City players stayed on the pitch celebrating the hard-won victory. Some of them were in tears and will no doubt remember this moment for the rest of their lives.

Also, to add the cherry on top, Albian Ajeti was named the player of the competition.

Youth Academy:

Aaron Dean (United States) 16 years old 50-54 OVR 82-88 POT
- Aaron Dean looks to have great potential if he can knuckle down and get a lot of first team action. He favours to play on the left but this left-footed playmaker looks like he would also be comfortable in the middle.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

Hey guys, I decided to do a career with Hartlepool United in League 2 as I wanted to do a lower league career. I'm gonna do something like Rabbit does and update the Swansea one simultaneously as I don't want to quit it.

Always good to see League 2 careers. Glad you'll be keeping the Swansea career going as well don't want to see that end just yet! Hartlepool is a very good choice. You may no longer have the young striker Luke James, but you still have a young Brad Walker with great potential for a League 2 player. If you give him enough playing time he could exceed that potential as well. I've never used him, but he was on my Wimbledon shortlist for a long time I just didn't need a midfielder. Looking forward to it!

The Monkey Hangers
Road to Glory
Season 1

Cooper Departs, Keane Comes In
After 16 months in charge of the club Collin Cooper has left Hartlepool by mutual consent. It believed him and Ken Hodcroft, the Chairman, had an argument about transfer policy and it led to the termination of Mr. Cooper's contract. Less than a week later James Keane has been appointed the new manager of Hartlepool United. The 35 year old Irishman has taken over the club with immediate effect. He signed a 3 year deal and this is his first foray into management after previously being a youth team coach at Swansea City. He has set a goal of getting to the Premier League and becoming one of the best teams in the world. Something many people believe is impossible and will never be done. Keane has been given total control over the transfers but it is understood that it will be a British only policy. ~ Sky Sports News July 1st

Press Conference

Congratulations on becoming the new manager, how do you feel about the job?

I'm very happy to be here as the manager and be a part of this football club. When Mr. Hodcroft rang me about the job and asked me to meet him at first I was thinking why would I come here, then when I met him he really sold the club and the long term plan to me and how I would be a big part of it.

Don't you think you are a bit inexperienced for this job?

Everyone has to start somewhere and that somewhere is at Hartlepool for me. I think we can achieve great things at this football club and be a real powerhouse in years to come.

There has been rumours of you wanting to take the club to the Premier League and become one of the best in the world. Surely they are just rumours?

No they aren't actually. I really believe we can do it with the right structure, drive and ambition. Come back to me in 10 years and I'll guarantee we'll be at the top of the Premier League.

There has also been talk of a British only transfer policy. Is this true?

Yes it is. I'm a firm believer in home grown talent and that is why the Youth Academy will play a big role too. I will only bring in players from England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Ireland. I want us to be a club like Athletic Bilbao with their Basque only policy. I want to prove that home grown talent can win the Premiership.

What are your goals for the season ahead?

To win the league. It's as simple as that. Anything less and it's a failure. We need to set high standards at this football club for the present and future.

Do you have any particular transfer targets in mind?

Yes but I'm not going to talk about them to the media as it'll only drive the prices up. Something that we cannot afford to happen as funds are limited.

Good Luck Mr. Keane.

Thank you gentlemen.

Well there you have it, my new career. I'll post the squad, goals, budget etc. tomorrow once I actually fire it up and start it. Anything you guys would like put into it or just any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks for reading! Any feedback is much appreciated!

Thanks! I didn't want to see it end yet either but wanted to do a League 2 career all the same. Hopefully I still do have James as my roosters are default because I'm not connected to PSN. Good to see that there is another high potential player in Walker though!

Games

Champions League
Quarter Finals
Leg 2

FC Schalke 04 0-1 Arsenal
Arsenal advance on aggregate score 2-0
78' Papadopoulos (OG)

Ah, yes. The second leg at the Veltins Arena against Schalke. I told the boys straight up to play more defensive - not sit at the back, but always think about your positioning defensively.

They came at us, obviously, they had everything to play for while we needed to just keep our net clean. They struck the post twice from crosses, it made me think instantly that we might actually lose this. We ourselves had not a lot of good chances, yet when Welbeck was through, something very strange happened.

The ball bounced in the air and Papadopoulos controlled it into their net. He was trying to control it with his chest but when he did, he scored an own goal. A very bizarre thing, I have never seen that before. We almost made it 2-0, as Podolski struck the post, but that was it. 1-0, aggregate score of 2-0 and we were on to the semi finals!

Premier League
Matchday 31

Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United
61' Özil (PEN)
90' McCarthy

We returned to face Newcastle at home. I swapped the team up to give the starters a rest and to be fair, things were not looking bad. We were creating space and making it difficult for Newcastle, yet somehow could not finish our chances.

I put in Özil about 5 minutes after the start of the second half and things looked better instantly. Giroud got into the box and got taken down - penalty. Özil had no pressure and put it past Krul, the amazing penalty defender. After the goal we had broken Newcastle completely, they looked very poor.

We managed to score just before the end of the half, it wasn't a beautiful goal. McCarthy took a shot and somehow it bounced infront of him and he had an empty net to score in. Another win in the bank and we were looking really good.

Premier League
Matchday 32

Hull City 1-2 Arsenal
39' Giroud (Walcott)
43' Diame (Elmohamady)
51' McCarthy (Flamini)

We didn't want to stop, so a week later, we went to play in the KC stadium against Hull City. I fielded a different side since our CL game was in a few days, but we still looked very good. Giroud got himself on the scoresheet again, as he went past the defender with ease and hit it straight at the front post.

Hull were not out of it, as Diame broke into the box and shot it in the back corner. The ball hit the post, so I thought it was going out, yet it went in. Second half, it was James McCarthy who scored again, as he got the ball from Flamini outside the box, nutmegged Quinn and was 1-on-1 with the keeper and shot it very lightly to the bottom corner. I thought that perhaps Hull will get back into it, yet the final score was 2-1. A great win just before a very important game.

Champions League
Semi-Finals
Leg 1

Arsenal 0-1 VfL Wolfsburg
34' De Bruyne

So here it was, one of the most important games this month - Champions League semi-finals against Wolfsburg. First leg was at the Emirates. I felt confident yet what I had learned from playing Schalke, is that German teams do not give up.

The game started very difficult. Wolfsburg were showing the early initiative and it took us time to get our game going, but we looked really good. Özil had some good chances and so did Sandro from a corner, yet it wasn't anything that we could take the lead from.

But the old rule of football is that when you don't score, the other team will, so when Pericic took a shot that got saved by Szczesny, Alex Sandro did not manage to clear it so De Bruyne was the first one to the rebound and gave the visiting team the lead.

I told the lads to play more aggressive and offensive, which we did. The ball was moving nicely yet Wolfsburg was very disciplined in defense, so no space was given for us to actually get the shots off. Finally, the game ended 1-0 - certainly a result which we did not want, because going to Germany for the second game, isn't going to be any easier.

Premier League
Matchday 33

Arsenal 0-0 West Bromich Albion

I would honestly write something about this game, yet it was so boring that I have nothing to comment about. Both teams had one shot on target, I fielded a weaker side since it was the game just before our next fixture against Wolfsburg. Atleast we didn't lose, I guess.

Champions League
Semi-Finals
Leg 2

VfL Wolfsburg 1-1 Arsenal
VfL Wolfsburg advance on aggregate score 2-1
8' Gomez
11' Özil (Wilshere)

So here we were, the second leg of CL in Germany. The airplane here was the most quiet trip I have ever heard - the boys were more focused than ever. I told the guys to play their hardest and we will get to the finals.

Unfortunately, things went wrong instantly - Gomez scored very early as a cross into the box got first saved, but a huge scramble left him open and he put it away. I feared that it could be final, yet we did not give up, as Özil managed to respond pretty much instantly.

From there, things were really intense. We were attacking and creating chances but Benaglio was keeping them in it. On the other end, De Bruyne and Gomez were making life really difficult for us, making moves and being a threat constantly.

I was looking at the time as it was ticking down - more and more the idea that we would be out came to me. We were fighting for it, I mean, the team was, but when the final whistle blew, the game ended 1-1 and we were officially out of the Champions League.

Premier League
Matchday 34

Tottenham Hotspurs 0-5 Arsenal
26' Giroud (Walcott)
30' Özil (PEN)
47' Özil
51' Walcott (McCarthy)
73' Ramsey (Chambers)

So after getting eliminated from CL, we only had a few games remaining in the league. And even if the mood was the lowest it had been the whole season in the lockerroom, we still needed to perform to catch up to Chelsea. And our last game of the month was against our rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs.

But to my amusement and utter pleasing, the boys went out to play. Walcott gave a beautiful cross into the box and Giroud was the first one to head it. A few minutes later, Giroud got tackled in the box - penalty. Özil stepped up to take it and he smashed it into the bottom right corner.

The team looked fantastic, I was really proud - after a tough game, they came to really perform. Spurs were looking really poor. Start of the second half, they made a mistake in defense and let Özil go straight through on goal, who scored it easily.

We had a 3-0 lead, and when I thought that Spurs would actually focus on damage control, some good passing left Walcott open outside the box and he smashed it in. In the end, Ramsey finished the deal, as Chambers took up an attack from his side and passed it to the middle, where Ramsey blew past his defender and dinked it in the bottom corner. 5-0, probably the best game we have had and a great way to end a difficult month.

Barclays Premier League Table

What a month, holy. We are out of Champions League, sadly, yet we caught up in the league well, so hopefully we can make a good push in May and grab the title infront of Chelsea.

Also, because next month is May, I will post a few of my youngster, who will be a part of the first team next season.

Thank you for reading the post, please, leave your feedback!

A very strong month! Starting off with getting through the quarter final and getting 2 solid wins against Newcastle and Hull. Disappointing to lose out to Wolfsburg in the semis but you did well to get as far as you did with Arsenal. (:P) A bit disappointing drawing to West Brom particularly when it would have put you level with Chelsea. What a demolishing of Spurs to end the month! I bet you were happy. You have done well to claw back the deficit on Chelsea and I hope you can clinch the title next month! I'm also looking forward to your Youth Academy.
