        Miami Heat 2014-2015 Season Preview

        Roster Breakdown:

Point Guards | The Heat finished the 2013-2014 season with rotating point guards Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole. However, they drafted a player that LeBron James had endorsed, Shabazz Napier, in hopes that "The King" would return to Miami. He didn't and that means that the Heat are stuck with Napier. But that isn't such a bad thing. Napier was a strong player in college. While Cole has shown promise, he lacks consistency in his game. On the flipside, Mario Chalmers has been with the Heat for 6 seasons, now entering his 7th. He's a decent defender and one of the better 3 point shooters on the team. Look out for Napier possibly stealing the starting spot out from under the other two.

Shooting Guards | Dwyane Wade took a bit of a pay cut once again to remain with the team that drafted him. And once again, he may have to play second fiddle to the returning Chris Bosh. If he can remain healthy though, he's still easily a top 5 shooting guard in the game. That if is a big one though, after the past few seasons he's really struggled to stay on the court. Behind Wade on the depth chart is rookie Tyler Johnson. There isn't too much to say about his game, as most teams including the Heat have yet to see what the young gun can offer. With Johnson as a backup plan, the Heat could find some decent shooting off the bench.

Small Forwards | Newcomers will play a huge role at the small forward position. Recently acquired Luol Deng is likely going to come out as the starter, after signing a 1 year deal worth nearly 10 million. Deng is respected around the league as a great defender. Rookie James Ennis will be joining the team this year after playing last year overseas in Australia, winning the NBL championship and earning MVP honors on his team. His athleticism is incredible and he's starting to create a lot of buzz in Florida around him potentially being the Heat's next star. Also new to the Heat is Danny Granger, the former All Star and Most Improved Player for the Pacers. Nobody is entirely sure about what he brings to the table after disappearing off the radar the past few seasons. The Heat can only dream he returns to his All Star form.

Power Forwards | Another new guy, Josh McRoberts, is looking to grab a starting spot on the team. McRoberts is a great addition, giving the Heat someone who will fight for every rebound and every loose ball. Unfortunately, to most Heat fans he's known as "the guy who elbowed James". Shawne Williams, who joins his former Pacers teammate Danny Granger, looks to bring some extra shooting from the outside. And of course, fan favorite and Heat-lifer "U.D." Udonis Haslem is back for another season.

Centers | The Last Living Dinosaur. The Velociraptor. Boshasaurus Rex. Whatever you want to call him, Chris Bosh is back in Miami on a 5 year max deal. Bosh is taking the reigns of the team after LeBron James' departure, and everyone in Miami is waiting for him to return to his old Toronto form. Also re-signed by the Heat is the Birdman, Chris Andersen. He'll be providing some much needed defense and rebounding off the bench. Miami will also be bringing in two smaller caliber players, Hassan Whiteside and Justin Hamilton. The potential is there for both of them, it's just that neither has shown anything special over their careers. Lucky for them, they're still young.

        Season Outlook:

Despite how excited everyone seems to be, there seems to be an underlying theme of fear. Will the young rookies Ennis and Napier pan out? Will the new free agent acquisitions fit into Miami's system? Will Dwyane Wade stay healthy? Will Chris Bosh play MVP caliber basketball? The harsh reality is... nobody knows. Those questions can only be answered as time passes. Looking at them on paper, it's easy to say that the Heat could make a playoff push. And if they can get it all together, they might just be able to. The East has always been viewed as the weaker of the two conferences, so even if the Heat perform poorly maybe they sneak in as a number 7th or 8th seed. After those fews years of clarity with LeBron at the helm, knowing for sure that the Heat would be good, this season will be a different experience for old and new fans alike. One thing's absolutely positive - the Heat won't go down without a fight.

        Projected Finishes:
45-37 (if everything goes right) | 30-52 (if everything goes wrong)

        Bold Predictions:
*Chris Bosh IS the MVP of the team and finishes top 3 in MVP voting.*
*Danny Granger flashes his former self at least twice this season*
*James Ennis takes over a starting spot by the end of the season*
*The Heat not only make it to the playoffs, but sweep their first opponents*

              Opening Night Recap

Heat fall apart in second half, fall to Wizards 106-94

John Wall, pictured above, posted a double double with 21 points and 10 assists
Postgame Recap: Heat Boxscore | Wizards Boxscore | Team Comparison

Three things prevented the Heat from winning this game. The first was Paul Pierce. The former Celtic superstar turned role-player exploded early in the game. It seemed as if every shot he put up was easily going down. One defender, two defenders, no defenders, it didn't matter to him. He finished the game with 26 points on 3 of 4 shooting from downtown.

The second was Pierce's teammate, John Wall. When the Heat started collapsing late in the third, Wall suddenly started to shine. He had been dropping dimes left and right all game but at the half he had been held to just 8 points. During the fourth quarter, he found some time to show off some of his flashy finishes, as the picture above shows.

But the final, and most significant, thing that kept the Heat from winning is... themselves. Despite Chirs Bosh having a huge game, he struggled in the second half, up until their fate was obviously sealed. The teammates surrounding him failed to pick up where they had left off as well. It seemed there was a switch that flipped off, ruining everyone's game, and then flipped back on after the Wizards had gone up 15. And by that point, it was too late. If the Heat want to find their first win, they're going to have to learn to play second half basketball.

              Player of the Game:

              Wizards PG John Wall
              21 pts - 10 asts - 2 stls

Thank you man, I appreciate that.

If you have any suggestions on how I can improve this lmk. I know you always run great dynasties, so maybe you see a glaring weakness in mine lol

                -----------------------------------------------------------------

Also, a side note for everyone that may be reading this: I'm going to be playing one game, and then simming five. I'll still post updates for the sim games. I'll also be bending that rule here and there to play interesting/important games and things like holiday games. If you guys have anything that you'd like to see, post it up!

Wade Returns, Heat Beat Down 76ers 107-64

Dwyane Wade plays through injury, contributes for Heat on defense
Postgame Recap: Heat Boxscore | 76ers Boxscore | Team Comparison

Maybe someone in the Heat organization saw my last update and told all the players. Or maybe Dwyane Wade refusing to sit on the bench any longer got everyone hype. Or, and this one is the most likely, they played against the 76ers. But I'll just call it a combination of the three.

As stated above, Wade's back! Before the game, I got a chance to talk with him. I asked him how he felt about opening night, and without hesitation he told me, "I was excited but you know, I was disappointed too. I'm not gonna let my guys go out there like that. You can expect to see me tonight." Dwyane has always been a leader on and off the court, and this game was just another example of that. Despite playing only 21 minutes, he managed to come away with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 blocks.

Another thing to note: Chris Bosh is playing out of his mind. He pulled in his second double-double in two games. Bosh posted 27 points (with three 3s!) and 16 rebounds! He's certainly sending a message to everyone worldwide, letting people know that he played third wheel to James and Wade only because he had to.

                  Player of the Game:

                  C Chris Bosh
                  27 pts | 16 rebs | 2 blks

Miami's bench steps up, Bosh steps down as Heat win 91-81

Luol Deng posted a team high 20 points, while chipping in 3 rebounds and 3 assists
Postgame Recap: Heat Boxscore | Raptors Boxscore | Team Comparison

                      Player of the Game:

                      SF Luol Deng
                      20 pts | 3 rebs | 3 asts

The Heat certainly made it hard to pick a PotG on this night. Everyone played their hearts out. That's not to take anything away from the Raptors, they were just having a tough night. Their star Kyle Lowry nearly carried them to victory behind 17 points, 6 assists, and an astonishing 9 rebounds. Miami must feel good knowing they can win with Bosh having a below average night. Look for CB to get back on pace after getting a rest day Monday.

Chris Bosh and the Heat are finding new ways to impress everyone. After Sunday's win against the Raptors, Bosh played off his poor performance to the media, saying "We won. That's all I care about." However, it was clear he'd need to step up next time out. And that he did. Chris put up his third double-double of the season and managed to get seven blocks while doing so.

That "format change" was just based on putting the text at the bottom instead of in between PoTG and the links. And on shortening the actual recaps.

Horents trio impresses in 95-79 win

Postgame Recap: Heat Boxscore | Hornets Boxscore | Team Comparison

Just a rough night overall for the Heat. The Hornets trio of Al Jefferson, Cody Zeller, and Lance Stephenson took over the game, combining for 51 of the teams total 95 points. The Heat were outrebounded once again, which is nothing new to Heat fans. After the game, it was reported by Heat officials that Chris Bosh played with a high ankle sprain and may be out for a week or two. It was evident that he was playing through an injury, trying to carry the team in Dwyane Wade's absence. Wade was given the night off. The Heat's gameplan will likely change until their star center can return.

                          Player of the Game:

                          C Al Jefferson

Postgame Recap: Heat Boxscore | Timberwolves Boxscore | Team Comparison

Two days after losing big man Chris Bosh to an ankle sprain, the Heat manhandle the Timberwolves. Dwyane Wade stuffed the stat sheet, both offensively and defensively. Luol Deng also stepped up, coming away with 20 points and 8 boards. Danny Granger was able to drop 14 points on 6-9 shooting. And maybe the most surprising, Hassan Whiteside, who started at center in place of Bosh, dropped in 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. That's not to take anything away from the Timberwolves, all I'm saying is maybe they aren't ready.

                          Player of the Game:

                          SG Dwyane Wade

Postgame Recap: Heat Boxscore | Mavericks Boxscore | Team Comparison

The Heat and the Mavericks are very familiar with each other. It just happened to be the Mavericks night to take hold of the rivalry. They were seemingly unstoppable behind Rajon Rondo's 12 points and 17(!) assists. But let's not forget Monta Ellis' 33 points. Or Dirk Nowitzki's 19 points and 18 rebounds. Or Tyson Chandler's 12 points and 12 rebounds. Dwyane Wade's 26 points didn't seem to faze them. Following the game, Dwyane told reporters, "We know we can do better than that against them. But hats off to them, y'know. They did everything they could, we're looking forward to the next match up."

This will also kinda be on hold till about Friday or Saturday. Unless I can get something in tomorrow.
