    Contract editing issue...

Sorry if this is already mentioned somewhere else..

I went through every team and fixed each guys contract to match real life. After doing so, I figured I would test out and sim several seasons (4 total). To my surprise, teams are running out of money and letting big guys walk and stay in Free Agency all season. Strasburg and J. Upton to name a few. After the next season is over, those guys retire because of lack of interest as a Free Agent. Sorry to be the person with bad news, maybe somebody can give some insite and get this fixed.

30 team control, increase budgets and shed payroll every way you can to keep the mega contracts.. This big money era will bust sooner or later. The TV money will dry up eventually...I dont think this type of thing will be fixed in a patch, thats why they have the contracts and budgets they have as default.

I was worried about this. It has always been a problem for "The Show." It is going to take a lot of simming and experimenting to try to fix this. The main problem is they only gave every team 10 million more in budget than the costs of their current contracts. Then it adjusts it at the end of the year based on team performance but ever so slightly.

MLB Bob, I agree 100%. I don't think it will be patched either and that is fine with me. I was mainly letting you guys know so you all didn't waste your time editing contracts to match real life. I decided to go back to default contracts and start my franchise.

its not really that much different from last year with the work around, now we just dont have to use the work around and can do it from the start. I'll like the feature for the fictional roster

I guess I don't completely understand the problem. Are you saying that NO ONE will sign certain players due to their high salary demands? Or just that they aren't resigned by their current teams?

I'm working on fixing the contracts too. Took me two hours to do the NL last night. Doing the AL tonight, and then I'll jump into a practice franchise until the OSFM rosters are done.

I will not ever control more than one team. That takes any and all fun out of the game for me. I also don't play quite that far into the future. Generally 2 or 3 seasons including simming.

For me, the immediate realism of real contracts is MUCH more important than something that might happen years down the road.

Honestly, I personally would just focus more on getting the lengths of contracts 100% correct more then the amounts of at least the big boy contracts like Giancarlo and Kershaw...The amounts....maybe just get ur team completely 100% correct in everyway possible...better to cripple urself then the CPU

Unlucky 13, It's a combination of both demanding high money and the teams not having enough money. Think both those players were asking for 20 million. The first offseason wasn't bad but became worse each off season.

Also, you will hardly see any trades during the season. By the 3rd season, not one trade was made.

The work around was to alter contracts. The issue was, once you have new contracts it caused a similar issue this seems to be. As for not wanting to do 30 team control. You don't have to control every team. It's been well documented on how to set up a self directed CPU profile to look after everything. Its purpose is to allow you the ability IF NEEDED to step in and correct things. It's how I'll be doing it.

I saw this as well during testing, for OSFM V1 we will make sure years are correct but wont touch $$$ on mega contracts

                            Contract editing issue...

I assumed this would be the case. The underlying issue is the progression system. The reason that the big names stay on the market, isn't just because of money, because there are teams that will have some. It's that the league becomes saturated with 95-99 overall pitchers.

Why pay a guy $30 million a year at 31 years old when you have 5 99 pitchers in your farm system that are only in arbitration?

Pitcher quality is too strong as you progress. Here are some videos I made.

I had some unexpected free time this morning and got everything done.

                              notes:

*I would say that 99% of players making 1 mil or more in real life are really close to their real deals (within a few dozen thousand).

*I did not create any players for any team except the Cubs. If a guy isn't in the day one roster update, he's not there.

*I fixed some pre-arb players on almost every team, but ignored most. This will likely lead to many teams having a few mil more on their payroll than in reality (for example guys making 700k who really make 500k), but I felt that the amount of work didn't justify the small benefit for my purposes here, as I'm not actually ever going to use this roster for anything other than trials.

*because I didn't change any minor leaguers, there are many fictional guys in the minors who are actually their teams' best player at a given position. We'll see how the CPU handles this and how big of a monkey wrench it throws into the machine.

I'm curious to see how things work themselves out. I would say that between the larger contracts and new logic, we'll likely see fewer trades of "name" players, which I think is a good thing. Too many guys with large, or even toxic contracts were moved every season in 2014 and earlier models, and frankly there was just too much trading of established veteran players overall.

Also curious to see how a few teams with mid range payrolls operate when they have huge amounts of payroll space come clean with expiring contracts. Will they resign the older vets who are on one year deals, or remake the roster?

Also noted how the Cubs GM goals changed once I updated all of the other teams' payrolls. Clearly, payroll in relation to the rest of the league is a factor in what is expected, but its not the only thing. For example, The Reds budget is very close to the Cubs, but their stretch goal is to mearly make the playoffs, while the Cubs is to go to the WS.
