The Owl offense was clicking on all cylinders again this week. Almost 500 yards of total offense, 314 yards on the ground, and a more efficient passing game. The Owls had two rushing touchdowns from receivers, and spread the ball out really well. The defense played a lot better. They were getting to the quarterback more, and forced 5 turnovers. 4 were interceptions. Cre'Von LeBlanc had two of those, and Damian Parms took his for a big touchdown that made the game a two score game in the 4th quarter. Despite a few big runs, they were able to contain Marlon Mack. He had a 50 yard run but other than that he was shut down for the most of the game.

This isn't the image Owl fans want to see, Jaquez Johnson is out for 3 weeks after a shoulder injury.
The injury bug has bit the Owls this game. In the first half Jaquez Johnson was injured getting thrown to the ground after he completed a pass. He will be out for 3 weeks after an injury to his shoulder and should be ready to play in a big conference matchup against Marshall. Then freshman receiver playmaker Trey Rodriguez was injured and will be out for two with a back issue. The worst of them all will be running back committee leader Jay Warren is out for the season with a broken elbow.

At running back we are going to drop the committee approach for now and Greg Howell will be the lead man getting almost all of the carries out of the backfield. At receiver and in the return game we are going to miss TreyRod for two games but he isn't our only receiver that can make impact plays. We had two receivers run for touchdowns today and I think that is something to be excited about.

We allowed a few big plays in the run game but overall we held them in check. There's still room for improvement though. It looked like a 7 on 7 out there only two of their passes touched the ground. We have got to get better at defending the pass because we aren't going to be able to expect 4 interceptions every game.
