So after a bunch of upgrades, who are the best pitchers in the game?

I think most would agree that Nolan, Seaver and Neikro are top three so we can get them out of the way.

Kershaw obviously is the highest rated player in the game, although I hear because he is a lefty and most batters are righties, he gets hit too easily, despite his ratings.

So besides them, who are the top performing pitchers in the game? What is more important for a pitcher in high level online play, velocity or control?

I just got him and only used him once, but so far the best pitcher I've used is Felix Hernandez. I just found it so easy to control his pitches and put them right where I wanted. When my opponent did make contact, Felix's ratings kept him from getting too many hits.
For me control wins over velocity. For a while I had Chapman, and I loved using his fastball, but he wasn't very effective for me I actually have like a 10 era with him and sold him, opting for pitchers I can better spot pitches with than just throw it by someone. Against me, though, it's the opposite. People who spot pitches don't beat me very often, because I can hit almost any pitch. The only thin I have trouble with is high fastballs, for some reason I just can't catch up to them.

I shell Felix and the only time I had him, he got lit up in two starts.

He doesn't throw hard, doesn't have phenomenal break, and his speeds aren't different enough. He's practically BP, imo.

I agree with everything you posted. I'm about to sell Archer, Sonny Gray, and Shelby Miller because they all have sub 60 control and it's brutal. none of them have ANYTHING on Dallas Keuchel. I'm done with any pitcher who doesn't have at least 70 control.

when you try to throw a fastball down the middle of the plate out of frustration and you still can't hit the strike zone it will really piss you off.

I've thought about going out and getting only a bunch of guys with high control too. I'm actually gonna do some research tonight and do that.

Anyone know any pitchers with high control that I should try?

I think scherzer and Harvey have decent control if I'm not mistaken

              Anibal Sanchez- 79 control
been on my team from the start, he's a silver. His record isn't very good but that's my offense.

Re: So after a bunch of upgrades, who are the best pitchers in the game?

                Sale - 82 control
                Kluber - 76 control
                David Price - 80 control
                King Felix - 75 control
                Nolan Ryan - 70 control
                Dallas Keuchel - 72 control
                Jordan Zimmermann - 80 control
                Scherzer - 82 control
                Cole Hamels - 72 control
                Jon Lester - 78 control
                Cueto - 72 control
                Wainwright - 78 control
                Kershaw - 79 control

I feel like 70 is a good number, when I pitch Keuchel I have absolutely no issues putting the ball exactly where I want.

                11-4 record, 1.38 ERA in 104 innings, 76 SO, 9 BB, 6 HR, 0.74 WHIP. dominant.

Re: So after a bunch of upgrades, who are the best pitchers in the game?

The top pitchers are still the top pitchers really. The mid-high tier has changed a lot though with Miller, Wacha, Archer etc getting upgraded.

The thing is online it's all about a pitchers stuff. Their other ratings matter, but it really comes down to what pitches they have. For instance if you have a starter that can't touch 94+ you're going to have trouble against top players. I see people using Keuchel and I lick my chops as a hitter. I don't think I hit anyone as well as him looking back.

So when looking at who to use in your rotation, think about how well do people time them and how you yourself perform against certain pitchers (knuckleballers aside as some people just can't hit them and some love to hit off them). Harvey may be very highly rated, but his stuff is pretty mediocre really. Little velocity differential means people can sit on his fastball or a seconday pitch easily and still foul off the other they aren't looking for.

I kind of want to play you now. I use Keuchel like I've seen him pitch in the few games i've watched of him, lots of low borderline strike fastballs and changeups. mix in the slider every once in a while. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING over the middle, no matter what. I'll take a walk and go after the next guy if I have to.

I haven't had anyone rough him up, I think the most i've given up with him is 3 or 4 runs in a game.

King Felix is money if you mix the fastball with sinkers you will induce a lot of bad contact swings. If you throw high fastball and low sinkers only then you will get shelled. His curveball is worthless but sliders coming off hard down and in sinkers or a change in the same spot makes him tough.

Gerrit Cole is also money for me and Grienke has been rock solid, can't wait for further upgrades!

I cant speak for diamonds for I am poor lol but I have had a ton of 90something players. Shelby Miller has his moments but pinpoint accuracy isn't his thing

Madison Bumgarner is a very affective guy as a lefty I enjoy using him

Dri Archer leaves a little to be desired in my opinion but I dnt like guys with slow windup

Zack Grienke is a nice player and has a great slider which is important for me

Corey Kluber is nails for me ! I haven't lost a game with him yet. Great sinker

Shelby Miller is a decent guy to have good cutter, almost like a very fast slider is has so much movement

Dallas Kuechler was trash for me routinely gave up 3 an outing

Micheal Pineada is a great pitcher for the price, nice accuracy and good zip on his fastball

Re: So after a bunch of upgrades, who are the best pitchers in the game?

Jake arrieta (12-4 2.55 era) and Orel Hershiser (10-3 2.43 era) have been my surprise 4 amd 5. I have and have sold guys rated much higher then these two but yet they still do well for me. I also have david price (7-5 2.67 era) but I got tired of having to wait for PPP to switch to ALL righties each time he pitched or just back out entirely so I've taken him out. Arrieta above all has been the biggest surprise for me. I used him a lot when I first started and since he isn't rated that high as I started to accumulate top pitchers he just kinda got shuffled back until he was out of my rotation and forgot about. I happened to be going through all my pitchers and noticed him yesterday and stuck him back in. Pitched him 3 times since to a 2-0 (the one no desition he gave up 2 runs in 7 innings) giving up a total of 5 runs in 25+ innings. Not bad for a guy rated at I think 86-87. As for the big dogs I've had King felix and couldn't do much with him. He was 3-4 with a 4.77 era before I let him go. My other guys in my rotation are Nolan Ryan (3-1 2.67 era) Seaver (18-6 2.45 era) and Matt Harvey (11-10 2.77 era) havey is my "wtf am I gonna do with you" pitcher. He pitches well enough to get the win more often then not but never gets the run support like my other pitchers. Every team has that one guy that pitches well but never gets the run support and for me unfortunately that's harvey.

I have Niekro who has been very good for me, but i have heard against high ranked opponents he gets rocked. Seaver and Harvey have been very good. Hershiser has been my best and his 5-0 in 11 starts with a sub 2 era. I am a horrible hitter haha. I just picked up Ryan but only used him for 2 innings. I put him in part way through and now i guess they come in with 0 energy since the new patch. But i am sure he will be awesome. I also have David Price which has been pretty good and Yu Darvish but have not tried him yet. I hope to get Kershaw and King Felix soon.
