May 26th, Nationals @ Cubs

Chicago (AP)-

The game was well pitched with two strong pitchers dueling it out, by all accounts it was a toss up as to who pitched better in the 7 innings that both starters went. Jake Arrieta went 7 innings, gave up 5 hits with 1 walk and struck out 8. Max Scherzer went 7 innings, gave up four hits, two walks and struck out 5.

The Game was tied in the 7th inning when a diving Kris Bryant robbed the Nationals of a base hit down the line, got up and threw the runner out at first. The problem was that the young superstar came up clutching his chest having strained an oblique muscle and forced him out of the game. (He will only miss a couple of days and with an off day coming up that should help.)

In the 8th inning the the Nationals hit another ball that was in diving range of a player on the left side, this time it was Chris Coghlan as the ball just missed his glove and then hit the bullpen mound and the wall from there. Den Dekker was able to scamper around to third base for a 1 out triple. Den Dekker was driven in to take the lead by Ryan Zimmerman.

The Cubs weren't out of it just yet, Chris Coghlan came up to the plate with two on and one out in the bottom of the 9th inning with Drew Storen struggling. Coghlan rolled over on a ball and shot it up the middle, a great play by Ian Desmond, who made up for an earlier error, was able to start a fantastic double play to end the game and have the Cubs come up just a tad short.

The Cubs will square off with another Ace pitcher in Stephen Strasburg in the next game and hoping to maintain a .500 record.
