Re: NBA 2K16 Gameplay Blog With Da_Czar

    Two related questions:
    (A) Is it possible to do a double screen back to back on one defender as seen in the video/gif below in case the defender was able to fight around the first screener? (Maybe not that close together, but the concept is what I'm wondering).
    (B) Is it possible to have two separate teammates screen two separate defenders at the top (or inside) the three point line?

David Lee - 1st screener; Andrew Bogut - 2nd screener.

I'm asking because I remember Curry running past screeners from one side of the 3 point line to the other side of the 3 point line to get (probably) a 3 point shot off in the final seconds of the game. Can't remember the exact game, thus couldn't find footage. I just so happen to stumble on this one. It could have even been three screens back to back to back on multiple defenders along the three point line.

My biggest question: Czar - I've seen you posting all day here on OS, on a Sunday, of a holiday weekend, answering questions, clarifying, explaining, etc. So my question is: will you guys get a day off, or at least a long lunch break, when the game goes gold?

Seriously man, you guys are seriously kicking some arse, keep it up.

I've seen this with certain plays with certain teams in 2K15.

Okay cool, so it has to be a play. I was wondering more along the lines if it's possible without calling a specific play. Such as running freelance, then call for a simple screen, and follow that up with call a second screener.

If Da_Czar wants to further elaborate it with regards to NBA2k16, that would be great.

I think I saw a video on YT where you call for a double screen but I'm not positive.

Right... I can see that if it's a particular mechanic. I was really wondering if its something that can be reliably done with guys who do it if timing is right (ie: Westbrook, CP3, Wade, etc). My thought process was more that as you time it correctly to manually split through a tight space, whether it hedging/switching defender or a double team, if there is an dribble or animation(which can be interrupted) that compliments the manual action... not one that makes the action possible (ie: a push ahead dribble when you are splitting a P&R or double team and trying to burst through the space quickly).

But as you guys stated on the podcast that there is a quick first step element on offense, maybe that works perfectly fine.

Thanks. Found the following on youtube. Looks like it's definitely possible by calling a play, but assuming not in freelance mode.

I have done the split double team before but it was a quick cross this person did it with a behind the back dribble move.

If they are going to do something like this and have it be user controlled they would have to have revamped live ball physics close to real life so it would be a real risk reward on performing the move. It is just a detailed mechanic that could probably get exploited very quick if it was user controlled.

                      • You would have a throw out in front button sort of like 2K12. Do you really want a dedicated button for splitting the double team
                      • You use a quick cross which is possible now
                      • Or use a behind the back move like shown here.

If I recall correctly that's a wheel play post up high in 2k15.

I have done this as well with the basic crossover but with no consistency. I think 1 way to do this in the future (after hearing they will put it in when its not cheese) and take this with a grain of salt as no one has played 16 yet, but having the ability to pull off this move against bad hedges by players with poor footwork, agility, defense with bigs and they don't hedge properly which creates that little bit of space for us to read like irl and split the defense.

Again, I don't know if they have good and bad hedges in the game but I will assume they probably all do the same hedge perfectly and fundamentally sound which would be unrealistic. So a J. Noah might hedge perfectly with no gap or space while a M. Bonner might be too slow and take a bad angle allowing enough space to split the defense. Again this would be realistic, a game of matchups and a chess strategy between coaches in play calling as well as it would not be cheese IMO. It could be countered by making sure right players are guarding who. I think this should be able to be used with a simple crossover and not necessarily do we need a put ball out or in front button although maybe tapping sprint and cross could give you a animation dribble low and in front of you like you do when splitting the defense. I do agree a live ball in this situation would be necessary though making it a high risk/reward situation.

Just a thought. Maybe tie a pnr defense hedging rating with footwork rating, agility and defensive rating to separate the good hedgers from the bad?

I personally would love to see post up practice return also.

I really enjoyed the two players rebound/returning the ball to the shooter on the freestyle practice in 2K15. Nice little touch IMO.

I really hope practice post returns as well. I was in there a few years back more than regular practice and yes I'm talkin bout practice.

I'd also like to see us be able to practice SLOB and BLOB plays as well as in the future I hope we can add let's say 7 seconds and game specific situations where we are taking ball OOB for late game practice situations like coaches do irl practices. Then with doing this maybe they add in game where we can then call a specific play during our timeouts and be preset when we take the court after our timeout. That go's back to also having the ability to practice and change our freelance offense during timeouts too.
