Re: NBA 2K16 Available Today, Post Your Impressions Here

Very impressed. A lot that needs to be said both positively and negatively has been said.

For me, what stands out the most (and is always the first thing I look for) is team specific play styles and the immersion factor.

So far so good. Playing against the big man Philly Sixers was a vastly different experience than playing the shooting heavy champions.

Really enjoyed how I saw Curry looking for his points. I guarded him primarily with Chris Paul and that was the only successful match up. Playing tight on him kept Curry off the three point line but the Warriors are so efficient. So many weapons. Instead they killed me on pick and rolls.

The difference in speed is incredible just from seeing Draymond Green waltz pass me as Blake when defending him at the three point line. And when I started sagging off, he just drilled a three instead. Not sure how anyone in real life is beating this team for the next half decade.

Also pissed me off watching Green celebrate his baskets and And 1s while up by like 30 in the 4th. And he was the only one. So Green. I love the guy in real life but I can see why some hate him.

I got blown out in that match up but I know I have a lot to learn. I feel as if I started playing bad basketball to win games in 2k15. My biggest complaint was it felt like street ball was the only remedy to scoring.

So far I have had no success with that broken logic and I'm glad. I need to Re learn patience and setting up my offense. I couldn't be happier.

On a somewhat different note, my girlfriend, ever the critic in my playing video games but still understanding enough to know I enjoy doing so, walked in on me playing and seemed utterly impressed. Now this is the usual story where someone that doesn't care about video games is always super surprised with the presentation and graphics. I mean her first comment was, "this looks sick. Much better than the last basketball video game I've seen: NBA Jam." (Yes folks the original Jam. This is what I'm working with here!) But the point is she was impressed with the commentary (just shows we are so wrapped up in this that we forgot how impressive it really is), and the post game interview.

"Does he (Klay Thompson) really sound like that?"

    "Yeah."

"Where is he from? It's weird."

    Girlfriends. Gotta love them.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

SimBaller, would it be possible to address these two concerns, whether openly with the community or internally with the developers to find a fix. Thanks.

Picked it up yesterday evening, only dived into MyCareer so far. My early impressions.. first thing that caught my eye was overall presentation, from the intro, the slick menus, etc I loving what I see so far.
I was glad to see that the MyPlayer stuff carries over from last year, cause again this year, it seems like the Kinect got no love or optimization for scanning faces, no reason why that powerful tech cant even notice my face. But PS4 camera gets special tips for how to get a good scan.
Lol anyways, the cutscenes are fine, Im enjoying it so far, 2nd game (Georgetown)
What im noticing? Improvements everywhere! Like idk where to start lol. Movement and pacing is much better, animations are sexy, defense.. lord lol. I think it's kind of difficult to notice everything without playing a regular game yet but there is alot to love about this game this year.

I would like to hear some response from guys.
There are still some trades that just make you but I think it's been cut down quite a bit. I've simmed 12/13 seasons in MYGM and only trades that really stuck out were Damian Lillard for '18 1st and a back up PF, Andre Drummond for the 7th pick, DeAndre Jordan for Brook Lopez

Yeah, I have a surround setup in my den and the crowd sounds good when I have it on. I hear heckling and all that stuff. I also turned mine up in game to 60 or 65. It's really noticible during the MyCareer mode in the small gyms. I'm gonna check it out without the SS on to see how much of a difference it makes.

Yikes...can't hit a shot to save my life and the CPU blows past any defender like they are standing still. Any time I try to go past a CPU defender they are stuck to me like glue and I can't get any space at all to do anything. It's the same with screens..CPU does one and it's like I hit a brick wall but when I try one they never get obstructed by it. They just brush it off like nothing happened.

It's just frustrating because I really want to at least be decent but I'm just failing horribly.

I hope once sliders come out it may help a bit but I'm not holding my breath.
I had to bit the bullet and go all the way back down to rookie. I was doing decent but losing every game on pro. Now it's back to the basics. I'm having more fun competitive games now. I'm also learning along the way. This really is a different game. I'll eventually work my way back up. I actually like grinding this way.

Don't like the fact that you can't change controls, especially for going into post and call for screen. For years it was the old way and now I even have to change 2 basic controls, makes the start very hard for me.

Would love an option like in every other sportsgame where you can change it to the old controls.

Easily my biggest problem right now. Hitting Y to post is so ingrained in my brain. It's going to take some time to adjust.

i was feeling the same way bro.. but then i hit the scrimmage mode for a few games and got the feel for the new pick system and actually like it.. it more advanced than the 2k15 in terms of placement and control. before the computer would select the wrong side to screen. the nre passing buttons threw me off as well but now that we use LT to manually back drop and makes more sense
I am glad I got the Buell- I love riding it, I love the oddball looks I get on the road- I love people asking "What IS that thing?" I love flying into a corner WAY too hot, scared spitless and sure I'll never hold it at this speed- and hearing the bike whisper "Sissy!"...

                          12 Minute Qtrs./Broadcast

After free styling a bit and getting acquainted/reacquainted with the controls I random picked and played a few games and here are my observations/pros and cons.

                          Rockets(me) vs Celtics(cpu)

Pros: Game looks and plays beautifully. Harden was Harden. Got to the line a lot. Beat people off the dribble, got into the lane, hit step backs.

Dwight was Dwight. Post game real suspect. Menace as a defender in the paint. Finished nice on dunks around the rim. Nice pick and roll finishes.

Really fun to play as Brewer and Beverley on defense.

Able to minimize the Celtics perimeter players effectiveness although Isiah Thomas was tough. Although he got his, he shot too much and shot a poor percentage.

Cons: Celtic inside players played above their true abilities IMO. A little too quick and able to handle the ball like guards (Olynyk, Zeller, Lee, Sullinger).

Not a lot of space for users on jump shots. The cpu gets off shots really quickly and will hit some contested shots and rarely if ever miss an open shot. The user rarely if ever will hit a contested jump shot. Can't get off shots as quickly as the cpu so, even shots that seem open will get closed out on and contested. Some guys IRL hit tons of contested shots. Not so much in the game.

Defense is great but any sliver of space given to the cpu and they will hit shots at a rate that seems too high. I will play off of some players for a reason and poor outside shooters will drill shots with confidence. Went under a couple of screens against Marcus Smart and he's pulling up and draining shots like he's Steph Curry.

All in all I was able to win as I pulled away late. I figured had I not had Harden drop 41 I would have lost. Felt if I didn't have a superstar offensive player I would not be able to hang. So, I played Boston again. This time with the Nuggets.

Surprisingly,I spanked the Celtics with the Nuggets. Gallo and Chandler were great and Mudiay was getting to the bucket. I was able to defend fairly well without a stellar defense and able to score without a true superstar. I'm loving the game right now. And then I random select my next match up and the wheels fall off.

                          Grizzlies(me) vs Heat(cpu).

Pros: Gasol is a beast with a bevy of post moves.

Cons: Almost everything else. Miami played at one of the slowest paces in the league but everything they did was at hyper Mike D'Antoni pace.

Floor balance was awful for the Grizzlies. If I missed a post shot with a big on a designed play, the Heat would burst out like they were on crack and immediately have a numbers advantage.

Wade would spam the paint and would not give up the ball. He would keep banging into Tony Allen until he was able to slip through or if I got slightly beat and help came he would throw Magic Johnson like no looks through traffic with pinpoint accuracy and shots would go up super fast and be money.

Miami barely ran any plays just Dragic and Wade relentlessly spamming the paint and having their way with good defenders. They played nothing like the Heat and the Grizzlies, a top 3 defensive team, was horrid on defense. Protect the Paint, Get Back on Defense, did not matter. Maybe Memphis is just too slow and plodding.

I replayed this game a few times and the Heat would kill me every time. I would be patient on offense and really work to get good shots and the Heat, make or miss, will bolt out like their hair was on fire and head straight to the paint. If you played off a bit they would just eat up your cushion and get in the paint until they forced help and then make passes through traffic.

I guess styles make fights... But, it seemed like a completely different game vs the Heat. It resembled what I despised about the last two iterations of the series. I went from giddy in my first few games thinking the crack addict forays into the paint were a thing of the past and teams would play similarly to their real life counterparts but........Ummm, No. Looks like I will have another slider project on my hands.

Now I'm stuck and will probably lab this game a few more times or change my team to see if I can defend Miami. I mean if I can defend Isiah Thomas with Jameer Nelson you'd think I could defend Wade with Tony Allen or Dragic with Mike Conley. Back to lab.

PS. No highlights again on 12 minute qtrs is unacceptable.

This game is NBA Live reincarnated. Arcade to the tee. There is no way this game is on Superstar setting. Or simulation. People jacking 27 three's and hitting 14 of them with the Knicks? Lebron getting pushed around like a rag-doll by Monte Ellis? And the silent feature that many don't know exists, in the Hot/Cold feature plays an epic role in how your team performs. Also, another feature that ruins the already arcade play is the fact that the cpu teammates feel they can flop at the most ridiculous moments, resulting in points for the other team. SMH

Just certain things that should NOT be implemented for online competitve play. There also seems to be a cheese/glitch with the big man pump fake in the paint that draws a foul about 70% of the time, especially vs computer teammates.

Video or stream of this ?

When I saw Laker legend Kareem's twitter post saying "I'm proud to bring my skyhook to a new generation of fans" I had to jump in...

But now I'm somewhat concerned. I watched a CPU vs CPU game on 6 min quarters to get a feel for how things play out. It was 85 Celtics vs 86 Lakers:

                              - Magic was amazing which is good, but overly so. He scored 2/3 of the points and was selfish - never passing it to an open man on a drive. His passing was legendary, he'd sling passes behind his back at the last second even though he could've had an easy 2.

                              - Zero skyhooks by Kareem, is this not in the game? And Lakers rarely kicked it in to the big man. His player model was too beefy too, players were not bulked up as much back in those days. His defense was good though, he had some nice blocks.

                              - Aggressive power forward James Worthy basically did nothing but pass the ball, only one short drive to the basket. That dude was a beast but plays like a benchwarmer that shouldn't have the ball, really?

                              - Lakers not aggressive enough in general. On some fast breaks Lakers would put on the breaks for some unknown reason. Never the 80's Lakers man, they were Showtime!

                              - On the Celtics end, Danny Ainge only took one 3 pointer. At the end of the game Boston was down by 3 points and they had the ball with 17 seconds left. They passed the ball around and never got a shot off! Where was "3 specialist" Ainge? Hanging out in the 2-point zone.

                              - On the upside Larry Bird was solid but not as dominant as Magic. My man Rambis looks great and always seemed to be in the action. Cooper was great on defense (which is how it should be) and McHale & Parish seemed to play realistically.

I'll update their gameplan to give Cap more looks. The thought was to make Magic aggressive and force the user to adjust to him and send help which would then open up Magic to pass more vs double teams and early rotations. I will pull him back and bit and bump up the captain.

Also note if I have them run more they will take the fist option and caps looks will be reduced as there will be less half court possessions.

This game is amazing. It is fluid. It is hard to play, you have to know how these players play in real life. Still figuring out the game but so far so good. Best basketball game I have ever played in my entire life.
