Let's hope you're wrong. I'd be disappointed with a 6-6 record but you're probably right; I am in for a rude awakening once conference play begins.

This is my favorite time of a dynasty IMO...The dynasty gets to its prime once your team is all ""your guys."" I still have just a handful of holdovers from the original team:

Starters: WR Brent Comardelle, CB Kyle Davis, LT Sean Donnelly, LG Ben Stone, and DE Wendell Beckwith
Reserves: SS Ray Oppman, OLB Logan Hamilton, DT Kenneth Welcome

For the most part though, this is MY team and I am loving it.

Yeah as I have said before, there was no way I could bench this guy after all he's been through. You don't bench a guy who started the first 3 years of his career and has led you to back to back conference titles heading into his senior year. It was really a no-brainer. I'll still be using High a good bit though.

Hope you're right man. The stakes are certainly raised now for sure. Hopefully Byrd steps up to the plate!

Moving to the SEC was definitely a big factor in the decision. His composure rating will be very useful going into the hostile environments we'll be facing in the SEC.

Like you said, plenty of time for High to get his shot. He'll still get some looks in games though at WR and I also have some Wildcat and Option stuff planned for him as well.

Got the day off today and I am about to fire up the game at Idaho! (As soon as I can get my baby daughter to fall asleep for her afternoon nap :shh"

      51 -- 1-0
      29 -- 0-1

TOP: On the very first play of Tulane RB Reggie Moore's career, the freshman speedster received a first quarter Idaho kickoff, started right then quickly darted left and took it to the house for a 90-yard touchdown that tied the game at 7-7 following Idaho's opening drive score. BOTTOM: QB Curtis Byrd locates a mismatch with Moore matched up one-on-one with a much slower linebacker and hits him on a deep pass that went the distance for a 58-yard touchdown that made the score 44-29 in the third quarter.

FRESHMAN RB REGGIE MOORE HAS SPECTACULAR DEBUT AS WAVE ROLLS OVER IDAHO 51-29

4-star recruit dazzles with 339 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns on opening day | Schriever, Louisiana native scores on first touch of his collegiate career on a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown | QB Byrd throws for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns as team gets out of the gates with a 1-0 record

Moscow, ID -- It was close early but in the end the Tulane Green Wave pulled away from the pesky Idaho Vandals in a 51-29 opening day win at the Kibbie Dome on Saturday. The star of the afternoon was Tulane freshman RB Reggie Moore, who accounted for 339 all-purpose yards (166 kick return, 88 rushing, 85 receiving) and 3 touchdowns in his debut. Moore's very first touch of the football went the distance as he returned a kickoff 90 yards to tie the game at 7-7 early in the first quarter. The kickoff return touchdown was just the second in the past 4+ seasons for the Green Wave.

Tulane QB Curtis Byrd also had a hot performance to start the season. Making the opening day start at quarterback for Tulane for the fourth straight season, the senior signal caller completed 16 of his 20 passes for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns, including a back-breaking 58-yard touchdown completion to Moore near the end of the third quarter that extended Tulane's lead to 44-29.

Idaho (0-1) had success against the young Green Wave defense, gaining 402 offensive yards on the day. QB Chase Rogers went 9 of 12 for 129 yards and 1 touchdown before going down in the third quarter with a significant elbow injury. His replacement, QB Tom Richards picked up where he left off however, going 8 of 13 for 144 yards and 1 touchdown. He threw an interception late in the fourth quarter to Tulane star LB Mark Richards however the game was already decided at that point.

Moore's 3-yard touchdown run with 2:04 remaining in the game put the game away for the Green Wave and put an exclamation point on a stellar debut for the Schriever, Louisiana native.

Tulane (1-0) will host San Diego State (0-0) next week at the Louisiana Superdome.

Notes: Tulane reserve CB Chris Garrison left the game in the first half with what is being called a partially torn ACL. The core special teams player is expected to miss 6 to 8 weeks...Tulane PR/WR Brent Comardelle fumbled on his very first punt return opportunity in the first quarter and Idaho recovered. The senior receiver was then benched by head coach D. Geezy and replaced by fellow senior WR Daniel Hopkins as the team's punt return man for the remainder of the game...Saturday's 51 points marks just the second time in Geezy's tenure at Tulane that his team scored over 50 points. The other time coming in last season's 55-7 Liberty Bowl win versus Louisiana Monroe, making it two games in a row that his team has accomplished the feat.

A critical sequence took place just before halftime. Nursing a 16-14 lead with less than 0:10 remaining in the half, QB Anthony High lined up in Wildcat formation. He faked a handoff to RB Reggie Moore, and found FB Simon Parker in the end zone for a diving 7-yard touchdown completion that made the score 23-14 with just 0:04 remaining in the half. The play was setup with two successful Wildcat run plays earlier in the game, both of which were handoffs to Moore.

Richards was definitely quiet in this one. He's usually a guaranteed double-digit tackle guy. Hopefully he isn't about to have a sophomore slump.

Enough can't be said about Reggie. What a way to start a career.

His agility and acceleration on that kickoff return was beastly. He also had a nice 46-yard run early in the game where he did a nice spin move. He may be the best back I have ever had when it is all said and done.

Richards continues to be a rock out there. I was happy to see Byrd do well and High did nicely too out of the wildcat. Looks like all that quality recruiting by Coach Deegeezy is really paying off! Good luck against San Diego State!
Man there ain't no sugar-coating it...My cornerbacks are terrible. That spot is definitely a priority this year with recruiting.

I enjoyed week 1 of the two-QB system. The stats don't show it, but in addition to the wildcat stuff, High had some nice option plays, one of which was a 20-yarder but got called back for holding. It is a big luxury being able to do some of the QB run plays with little to no regard with the pounding the QB will take.

          34 -- 0-1
          38 -- 2-0

TOP: Trailing 34-17 in the fourth quarter, Tulane head coach D. Geezy's team pulled out its bag of tricks. QB Curtis Byrd completed a deep pass to RB Joey Roberts and the senior immediately lateraled the ball to trailing TE Joel Bowers, who took it the remainder of the way for a 66-yard touchdown. The impromptu hook-and-ladder play made the score 34-24 with 8:22 remaining. BOTTOM: Roberts' walks into the end zone from 7 yards out to complete Tulane's fourth quarter comeback, making the score 38-34 with just 0:12 remaining.

ROBERTS' 7-YARD TOUCHDOWN RUN WITH 0:12 REMAINING CAPS OFF 21-POINT FOURTH QUARTER AS TULANE SURVIVES SAN DIEGO STATE'S UPSET BID 38-34

QB Byrd throws two touchdown passes in fourth quarter, finishes with his second straight 300-yard performance in Green Wave's comeback victory | Freshman RB Moore has quiet day on offense but takes another first quarter kickoff return to the house | Team's shaky pass defense must improve quickly with rival Southern Miss coming to town next week

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave trailed the San Diego State Aztecs going into the fourth quarter, but a 21-point onslaught in the game's final 8:22 allowed the Green Wave to escape with a 38-34 win Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. Tulane RB Joey Roberts' 7-yard touchdown run with 0:12 remaining capped off an 8-play 59-yard drive that took up 2:20 and gave the Green Wave its 38-34 advantage. The Green Wave ran the ball six times on the drive, methodically melting away the clock.

The fourth quarter fireworks started with a spectacular hook-and-ladder play in which QB Curtis Byrd hit Roberts with a deep pass and Roberts, while being tackled by the only San Diego State defender in the area, alertly lateraled the ball to TE Joel Bowers, who took it the rest of the way for a 66-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 34-24 with 8:22 remaining.

"That's something we did not call in the huddle and was just an instinctive move on Joey's part," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"It was one of those 'no, no, no...yes, yes, yes!' plays. That play really sparked us."

Following an interception by FS Will Washington on San Diego State's ensuing drive, the Green Wave would pull to within a field goal with a 6-yard touchdown completion from Byrd to TE Justin Thomas that made the score 34-31 with 5:38 to go. Byrd finished the game 17 of 28 for 310 yards along with 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

The Green Wave would force a punt on San Diego State's next drive, setting up Roberts' heroics. Roberts finished the day with a team-high 86 rushing yards and the game-winning touchdown in addition to his impromptu hook-and-ladder play to Bowers.

San Diego State (0-1) moved the ball seemingly at will against the young Tulane secondary, carving the Green Wave up for 554 total offensive yards on the day. Aztecs QB Adam Dingwell finished 28 of 40 for 489 yards along with 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.

"They were a bit more pass heavy than we expected but obviously they must've caught something on film and identified that as an advantageous mismatch in their favor," said Geezy.

"We're very concerned about that area of our team and that's something we're going to have to take a close look at to make sure we got the right guys in there."

In the end though, the Tulane defense got timely stops in the fourth quarter and Tulane's offense, which struggled for most of the game's first three quarters, woke up when it needed to.

"Give San Diego State a ton of credit, they came in with a great game plan and really controlled the clock and tempo through three quarters," said Geezy.

"Our guys hung in there though and never gave up. We'll take wins anyway we can get them but we obviously have a ton of things to clean up."

Green Wave RB Reggie Moore had a somewhat quiet day on the offensive side of the ball, however he made his mark on special teams once again. In basically the exact same scenario from last week against Idaho, the freshman returned a first quarter kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown following his team going down 7-0 early in the game. Moore had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in last week's season opener. He finished the game with 258 all-purpose yards (183 kick return, 10 punt return, 50 rushing, 15 receiving).

Tulane (2-0) will host arch-rival and former Conference USA foe Southern Miss (2-0) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. The eventual Conference USA champion Green Wave defeated the Golden Eagles 41-31 last season in Hattiesburg, eliminating USM from conference title contention.

No...It was just an injury that knocked him out of the game. He'll be available next week.

If this game was any indication, it is going to be a long year once we get into SEC play. I need to figure something out in regards to our secondary woes. This USM game will be a good final test for us since they run the spread no-huddle.

Thanks...It was basically a desperation move on my part since we were basically getting blown out at that point. I saw the opportunity and reacted.

Of the 12 visiting, 5 have me ranked #1. The remaining 7 players have me 2nd. I figured that I would get them all in early to visit during the rivalry game, especially with this being the last true ""gimme"" home game on the schedule.

A bit of a scare there against San Diego State, hopefully the team can have a bounce back game against Southern Miss before heading into conference play. I do think Southern Miss is going to be your toughest game yet though. Reggie Moore continues to impress, even when having a quiet day he finds ways to get into the endzone, i expect a really big season from him. Good luck in the next game, I think this game against Southern Miss could be a good indicator of how conference play is going to go
Thanks man...It should be a good game. They have a good team and we played each other faily close last time around. It would be nice to get a big win in front of the 12 recruits we got coming in.

This is our last ""tune up"" before SEC plays starts so hopefully we play well and work out the kinks, especially in the secondary.

RIVALRY GAME: "THE BATTLE FOR THE BELL"

                    07 -- 2-1
                    31 -- 3-0

With his team already trailing 7-0 in the first quarter in Southern Miss driving, OLB Mark Richards comes up with a pivotal interception in the end zone that ended up being the turning point in the game.

AFTER FALLING BEHIND EARLY, TULANE SCORES 31 UNANSWERED POINTS EN ROUTE TO 31-7 VICTORY OVER RIVAL SOUTHERN MISS

Big plays by LB Richards and the Green Wave defense helps shuts down vaunted USM passing attack as team improves to 3-0 | Tulane rushes for 273 yards as a team, dominates in time of possession | Team set to open up SEC play next week with date at rival #21 LSU

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave trailed Southern Miss 7-0 early in the first quarter but a game-changing interception and 31 straight points enabled them to blow away rival Southern Miss 31-7 Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave allowed the Golden Eagles to drive 78 yards on the game's opening possession and USM QB Chris Campbell scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to give his team an early 7-0 lead.

Southern Miss forced a punt on Tulane's opening drive and got the ball right back and marched back down the field into the red zone with a chance to take an early commanding two-score lead. However Tulane OLB Mark Richards made perhaps the play of the game when he read Campbell's eyes and came up with an interception in the end zone to keep the score at 7-0.

Eleven plays and 89 yards later, the Green Wave cashed in the interception with a 4-yard touchdown run by RB Joey Roberts that tied the game at 7-7. Tulane would take the lead for good when PK Cody Bennett connected on a 38-yard field goal with 0:17 remaining in the first half.

Tulane's offense dominated the game and had 460 yards on the day. The team ran the ball 47 times for 273 yards and controlled the clock, finishing with 26:28 in possession time. Tulane QB Curtis Byrd threw for 187 yards and 1 touchdown and also had a 9-yard rushing touchdown on the opening possession of the second half that extended his team's lead to 17-7. Roberts was the team's leading rusher with 91 yards on the ground.

The Green Wave took a commanding lead in the fourth quarter when following a long 10-play drive, Byrd would scramble to the goal line and fumble and TE Joel Bowers recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown to make the score 24-7. The drive was preceded by a forced fumble in the red zone by Richards on an option play in which SS Brant Gilbert recovered.

Following a turnover on downs by USM on its next possession when Richards stuffed USM RB Kendrick Hardy in the backfield on 4th and inches from the Golden Eagles own 30-yard line, the Green Wave got the proverbial nail in the coffin. RB Reggie Moore's 2-yard reception on a "swing screen pass" from Byrd made the score 31-7 and ended all hopes for Southern Miss. Moore finished the day with 81 rushing yards and 7 receiving yards.

Tulane (3-0, 0-0) will make their long awaited return to SEC play next week when they face #21 LSU in a rematch from last season's 38-21 upset win over LSU at Tiger Stadium. Last year's win over the Tigers was the Green Wave's first over their in-state nemesis since 1982.

The Green Wave was a member of the SEC from 1933 to 1965 and their ""Battle for the Tiger Rag"" rivalry with LSU links directly back to the two schools' time as conference foes.

Thanks...This is our first week cracking into the voting. Hopefully we can get this W over LSU tonight and get into the Top 25. No doubt about Moore and Richards - They are the faces of the team.

If not for all the changes about to take place with the conference, I would not have minded a move to the Big 12.

But with that said, I am glad it was the SEC because it puts us head to head with LSU.

Unfortunately none of them committed however I expect at least 5 or 6 of them to commit in the next two weeks. I guess it was still a little too early for most of them.

LSU looks vulnerable for the taking, with an early loss already. They are coming off a big game against Auburn though. If you could win against LSU in your SEC opener and rivalry game that would be absolutely huge and probably vault you into the top 25. I'm really excited to see conference play get under way. Good luck!
LSU has most of the same guys coming back from last year and we beat them. As you'll see below, Herbie and Lee sure like our chances!

It would be a huge statement win if we can with this conference opener in Baton Rouge. I'm pumped for this one.

No doubt about it...It was huge winning these 3 games that we were pretty much SUPPOSED to win. Now I need to figure out how to have a respectable showing in SEC play. I am just going to take it one game at a time.

That was a worry, especially with how the game started with me going down 7-0 early. Richards' INTwas huge. If they score a TD there, the game is completely different.

you have a shot at a decent bowl game with some quality wins now
I think going 5-3 in the SEC is a pretty good and realistic goal. 8 or 9 wins should give us a good shot at a New Years Day bowl. It'll be interesting to see how this goes. We've won some big games over top teams but it will be different playing these top teams every single week.

                        The journey begins tonight!

#21 LSU RUDELY WELCOMES TULANE BACK INTO THE SEC WITH A 56-31 SPANKING AT TIGER STADIUM

Tulane unable to pull off second consecutive upset win in Baton Rouge, starts conference play in an 0-1 hole | Green Wave overpowered on both sides of the ball | Team hopes to rebound from first defeat of the season next week at Vandy

Baton Rouge, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave hung with #21 LSU for most of the first three quarters but in the end were methodically wore down by their in-state rivals, falling 56-31 Saturday evening at Tiger Stadium. LSU RB Darin Harris was the star of the afternoon, finishing with 136 yards on 20 carries and four touchdowns, plowing through the overmatched Tulane defense.

Trailing 35-24 in the fourth quarter, Tulane drove the ball all the way to the Tigers' 31-yard line with a chance to cut the deficit. However RB Joey Roberts was stuffed on 4th and inches by LSU DE Ego Ferguson for a loss, turning the ball over on downs. Just six plays later, Harris scored from 32 yards away for his third touchdown of the night, all but putting the game away at 42-24, though the bleeding would not stop there.

Green Wave QB Curtis Byrd would turn the ball over on his team's ensuing drive, throwing an interception to LSU star FS Obadiah Taylor deep in Tulane territory. Harris would score again just a few plays later, on a 3-yard touchdown run that made the score 49-24.

Tulane would continue to shoot themselves in the foot as emerging superstar RB/KR Reggie Moore would fumble on the ensuing kickoff and LSU CB Carlos Hollis recovered the ball and ran it back for a touchdown to put the final nail in the coffin, making the score 56-24 with 5:54 to play.

"That was without question one of the most painful two minutes of football I have ever been a part of," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"We were in the game at that point and we just could not get out of our own way."

LSU (2-1, 2-0) finished with four takeaways on the night - 2 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries.

Tulane struggled against the LSU pass rush throughout the day, despite only giving up 2 sacks. Byrd was consistently hurried on his throws and both of his two interceptions were the result of being hit while throwing. He finished the day 15 of 27 for for 165 yards and 1 touchdown pass.

"I thought our offensive line struggled and we were certainly overmatched athletically," said Geezy.

"We came into tonight with a focus on not turning the ball over and obviously we failed. Give LSU a lot of credit, but in many ways, we dug our own grave there."

The team did not fare any better on the other side of the ball either, surrendering 448 total yards to the Tigers, including 179 rushing yards. LSU QB Zach Lee went 17 of 26 for 269 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions, both thrown in the first half to Tulane FS Will Washington.

"Their offensive line was one of the best I have ever seen," said Tulane defensive coordinator/assistant head coach Charles Kelly.

"They just blew us off the ball and wore us out. You could see as the game went on that our guys were getting more and more tired and they took advantage of it. They're a very physical group and quite frankly, I thought they hit us in the mouth all game long and especially in the second half."

LSU had lost to Tulane 38-21 last season at Tiger Stadium, their first loss to the Green Wave since 1982, also at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers (2-1, 2-0) lead the long-time series with a 71-23-7 record.

Tulane (3-1, 0-1) will look to rebound when they travel to face Vanderbilt (2-2, 0-2) next week on the road. It will mark the two schools' first meeting since 1989, a 37-13 Tulane win in Nashville. Tulane leads the all-time series with the Commodores with a 28-17-3 all-time record.
