      Thanks Leaf....

I feel fairly confident about the offense despite the loss of High. I think regardless of who is playing, this game was going to come down to limiting mistakes and getting the ball to bounce our way. Their team on paper is so impressive so we're going to have our work cut out.

I think we will have to lean on the run a lot more in this game, not just to compensate for the loss of High, but also because we need to control the clock and not put ourselves in position to make mistakes.

Even without High, I don't see Bama blowing Tulane out like last year....should be a good *** game!
I think the biggest thing we have going for us this year as opposed to last year's blowout is the Dome Field Advantage. We've quietly established ourselves as having one of the toughest venues to come into and win in (11 straight home wins). It will be a challenge though and Moore will have his work cut out for him.

Fortunately, we can somewhat afford to lose this game. The game after that versus Arkansas is the one that will be the big one for all the marbles.

I think the 'Bama game is going to come down to ball control. If you can keep the pressure off of Moore and make it so he doesn't have to win the game for you, you should be in good shape. I'm really excited to see how this one turns out, I think you got a real chance of knocking them off. Good luck!

Decent comparison. I think Moore will surprise. His passer attribute ratings are arguably better than High's. I do have concerns about him not being able to escape trouble in the pocket though because he is a lot slower than High (68 spd compared to 87 pd for High).

He can get the job done in the passing game for sure but we'll definitely be using a lot more max protect in this game than normal and 5 WR sets may end up getting thrown out of the game plan this week.

Thanks bro...We're gonna need it tonight!

They're starting QB is hurt and I also just noticed that they are missing their 91 ovr Impact running back that has 96 spd and 97 btk in addition to their starting LT and LG so that's a big relief - Perhaps that is why they've been losing (too lazy to go back and look).

Thanks bro...Yea we were terrible in the beginning. It has been a long journey for the Green Wave. Our recruiting pitches have risen across the board and it has certainly made things easier.

I think my favorite progression is the attendance number. We started at 14,858 as the year 1 average to now averaging 64,000+ this season.

Glad to see someone actually reads the front page updates. haha

TOP: Tulane PK Cody Bennett drills a 44-yard field goal as time expires, giving top-ranked Tulane a 13-10 win over #9 Alabama. | BOTTOM ROW: On Tulane's previous drive prior to the game-winning field goal, third string RB William Archer scored on a career-long 60-yard run which tied the game at 10-10 with 5:06 remaining.

PK BENNETT NAILS 44-YARD FIELD GOAL AS TIME EXPIRES TO LIFT #1 TULANE TO A 13-10 VICTORY OVER #9 ALABAMA

With the offense missing its top two playmakers, Green Wave defense steps up and holds Crimson Tide to their lowest scoring output of the season | RB Archer, recently moved up the depth chart, delivers with a monster 134-yard rushing performance | Team's 12th straight home victory eliminates Alabama, winners of six straight SEC championships, from conference title contention | Green Wave can clinch first ever SEC West division title or slip into second place next week versus #18 Arkansas

New Orleans, LA -- The Tulane Green Wave had one of its best defensive performances under head coach D. Geezy and got a 44-yard field goal as time expired by PK Cody Bennett to pick up a momumental victory over #9 Alabama 13-10 Saturday at the Louisiana Superdome. The Green Wave's narrow victory puts them one win away from securing its first ever SEC Western Division crown and knocks the Crimson Tide out of SEC title contention.

Alabama (5-3) took a 10-3 lead when QB Jake Parsons found WR Kyle Bowen for an 18-yard score with 0:58 remaining in the third quarter. Parsons, who was a surprise starter after sitting out the entire week of practice with a groin injury that he sustained two weeks ago versus Wyoming, finished 14 of 21 for 236 yards and a touchdown. He was listed as ""questionable"" coming into Saturday and was a game-time decision.

Parsons would put his team in position to make it a two-possession game early in the fourth quarter when he found WR Ben Allen on a deep pass on the sideline inside the Green Wave 20-yard line. However Allen was stripped of the football by Tulane junior SS Brant Gilbert and freshman FS Dre Harris recovered it, turning the ball over to the Green Wave with just under 6 minutes remaining. It was Harris' 7th credited turnover of the season as he now has 3 fumble recoveries and 4 interceptions in his rookie year. His 3 defensive touchdowns leads the nation.

"That was the pivotal turning point in the game," said Geezy.

"If Allen doesn't fumble there and they are able to run more time off the clock and get either a touchdown or a field goal, we probably don't win. With that turnover, we were able to stay within the game plan and not have to force things."

Tulane would cash in the turnover just two plays later when reserve RB William Archer raced past defenders for a career-long 60-yard touchdown that tied the game at 10-10 with 5:06 remaining in the game. Archer, a redshirt junior, had moved past freshman RB B.J. Johnson on the depth chart this week to become the #3 running back after replacing Johnson following a fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown during last week's game at Kentucky. With starter Reggie Moore still out with his pectoral injury, Archer served as the back-up to RB Anthony Barnett and finished with a career-high 134 rushing yards serving in relief of Barnett, who finished with only 34 yards on 20 carries. Archer now has 33 rushes for 338 yards on the season, averaging a gaudy 10.2 yards per carry.

"Willie is a player that has worked his way up the ranks through the years and has seen playing time in a lot of mop-up situations and has had some big plays in that limited time," said Geezy.

"Last season, he had 56 yards on only 3 carries and coming into today, he had 17 carries for 204 yards. He brings a lot of speed to the position and once he gets into the open field, he cannot be caught. He's earned the playing time and will continue to get looks even when Reggie comes back."

Tulane would force an Alabama punt on the Crimson Tide's next possession and got the ball back with just over 4 minutes remaining deep in their own territory. QB Chris Moore, making his first career start in place of injured starter Anthony High, would direct a 10-play drive all the way to the Alabama 27-yard line, setting up Bennett's heroics on the game's final play. Moore finished just 9 of 15 for 112 yards and threw an interception on the team's first possession, but made big throws when it mattered most to help move the chains and put Tulane in position for the win.

"We felt that it was important to shorten the game by running the football while limiting mistakes and controlling the clock," said Geezy.

"Moore did a good job of managing the game and doing just enough to get us the win."

Like Tulane, Alabama was also without its starting running back, Jason Fisher (91). Sophomore RB Jason Moore (89) started in his place and finished with only 65 yards on 16 carries.

The Crimson Tide offense finished with only 299 total yards and was just 3 of 10 on third down conversions. Tulane OLB Mark Richards had a solid day, registering 6 tackles and 2 sacks, giving him 7 quarterback takedowns on the year.

The Green Wave (9-0, 6-0) will travel to face Arkansas (7-2, 5-1) next week on the road. If Tulane wins, they will clinch the SEC Western division title and will play in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta. Should they lose, Arkansas will take over first place in the division and would win it with a win over LSU the following week.

Tulane defeated the Razorbacks 17-10 last season at the Louisiana Superdome.

Notes: Starting SS Brant Gilbert (75) was injured in the fourth quarter on the play in which he caused a fumble, suffering a torn pectoral muscle. Sustaining the same injury that has held out QB Anthony High and RB Reggie Moore, Gilbert is expected to miss the next 3 to 4 weeks according to Geezy. Freshman SS Nick Thornburg (66) is expected to start in Gilbert's place...Geezy indicated that both High and Moore's rehabs are progressing well and both may return for the team's pivotal game next week at #18 Arkansas. Moore has been out since the fourth game of this season, a 24-14 win over Georgia. High was injured in last week's win over Kentucky. Geezy said that both will likely be game-time decisions.

Already up 10-3 in the fourth quarter, Alabama QB Jake Parsons completes a deep pass to WR Ben Allen to put the Tide in position to possibly put the game away. Tulane SS Brant Gilbert mis-timed his jump, giving up the big reception however he made up for it by stripping Allen of the football. Freshman safety and turnover magnet Dre Harris would recover for Tulane, giving his team possession of the ball with just under 6 minutes remaining.

Thanks bro...Willie Archer provided some quality snaps as he always has. He seems to always make big plays whenever he gets the opportunity.

Yes that was indeed our bread and butter run play out of the strong formation. It is usually more of a short yardage play but sometimes we get lucky and bust it for big gains. It is a power play that I like to call whenever we are facing a short yardage or goal line situation.

Big play by the safety to strip the ball, a game saving play in fact. I know it's still a little early but we might be seeing a passing of the torch in the SEC. I can't see Arkansas having a better squad than 'Bama and you should get some starters back. It's not over til it's over though...time to wrap it up against Arkansas and get into the SEC title game! Good luck!
When it is all said and done, that play by Gilbert will go down as one of those plays I will remember years from now. Like you said, if that doesn't happen, we lose.

Right now, our main focus is on the SEC title. That is the #1 goal.

It's crazy just how many pec injuries we're seeing. It didn't get reported on my last game report, but our reserve RB B.J. Johnson also suffered a sprained pectoral and was unable to return as well.

Looks like Tulane may be in the market for a new strength and conditioning coach this off-season. :benchpress:

Yep...It felt good to knock Alabama out. It felt almost like a coronation of sorts.

Our offense has so many weapons and looks like we just found another in Archer.

                    Green Wave News Clips

Tulane | QB High, RB Moore both expected to play
                    Fri, 14 Nov 2015 7:30:49 -0700
Tammy Nunez of the New Orleans Times Picayune reports that the Tulane Green Wave are expected to have both QB Anthony High and RB Reggie Moore back for their pivotal week 12 game tonight at #18 Arkansas. High has been out since being knocked out the game early during the team's week 9 win over Kentucky and Moore was injured in the team's week 4 game versus Georgia. Both players suffered torn pectoral injuries.

"If Moore plays, it will be in a limited capacity. We'd like to ease him back into things and look to get him about 10 touches," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"With High, we'll see how the injury responds on the first couple of series and go from there. We think back-up QB Chris Moore has done a great job and won't hesitate to put him in if we feel that Anthony is struggling."

Both players are listed as "questionable." They were joined by starting SS Brant Gilbert on the injury report, who also sustained a torn pectoral last week in the team's victory over Alabama and is expected to miss the next 2 to 4 weeks. Freshman back-up SS Nick Thornburg will start in his place.

"We're going to have to take a long and hard look at how we're training our guys. To have three guys go down with the same, uncommon injury is unheard of," said Geezy.

I copied and paste my last week of work into a notepad file during yesterday's debacle.

The question/comment responses I just posted and the game preview info was stuff I posted on Sunday.

In the game's second overtime period following a Tulane touchdown, Arkansas sophomore MLB Jon Archie stuffs Green Wave RB Reggie Moore, driving him backwards just before he is able to cross the goal line on a two-point conversion attempt. The big tackle secured a 38-37 victory for the Razorbacks and sent Tulane home as losers for the first time this season.

Razorbacks win shootout over previously undefeated Green Wave to take over first place in SEC West | On the game's final play, Tulane RB Moore gets stuffed 1-inch short of the goal line on a two point conversion attempt | Geezy's late gamble likely dashes Green Wave's national title hopes, team's conference championship dreams also now on life support | Tulane will now need to win next week versus Ole Miss and hope for LSU win over Arkansas in order to secure SEC Championship Game berth

Fayetville, AR -- #1 ranked Tulane was on the ropes for most of the day, but in the end the 18th ranked Arkansas Razorbacks were able to deliver the knockout blow on their way to handing the Green Wave their first loss of the season 38-37 in double overtime Saturday afternoon in Fayetville. The loss for Tulane was devastating as they have now fallen into a tie for first place in the SEC West division with Arkansas, who would win the tie-breaker due to its head to head victory.

Following a 4-yard touchdown run by RB Reggie Moore in the game's second overtime period, Tulane head coach D. Geezy decided to gamble and go for the win with a two point conversion attempt. The plan went awry however as Moore, playing in his first game since suffering a torn pectoral in week 4, was tackled just inches shy of the goal line by Razorbacks MLB Jon Archie, giving the win to Arkansas.

"It was absolutely a call I would make 10 out of 10 times," said Geezy.

"With the way the game was going, we felt that our team was running out of gas and it was just one of those things where you sensed that if we wanted to win the game, we needed to do it on that particular play.

"We felt like that our strong formation, power off tackle running play would get the job done. That is really one of our bread and butter short yardage plays but in the end, Archie just made a great play."

Arkansas (8-2, 6-1) led the entire game all the way until the final minute. Tulane QB Anthony High's 7-yard touchdown pass to FB Simon Parker with just 0:52 remaining in the game tied the score at 24-24. The big play capped off a 7-play 80-yard drive which took up 1:32.

In the game's first overtime, Tulane got the ball first and would score via a spectacular 15-yard touchdown run by Moore which was capped off with a dive from 4 yards away into the end zone. The play gave the Green Wave its first lead of the game at 31-24.

Arkansas would answer right back however as on the very first play of their possession, Razorbacks QB Bobby Robinson found WR Tyler Bennett for a 25-yard touchdown to tie the game at 31-31.

On the next possession, the first of the second overtime, Robinson found WR Brian Davis for what turned out to be the game-winning 25-yard score which gave the Razorbacks a 38-31 lead. It was Robinson's 5th touchdown pass of the game and he finished 29 of 40 for 344 yards while also throwing no interceptions.

"We just didn't make any plays defensively throughout the game and especially not in overtime," said Tulane assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Charles Kelly.

"It is a common misconception but when you have this type of weather, a lot of times it favors the offense because you'll see defensive backs slipping in reaction to the wide receivers, who obviously already know where they are going. CB Will Washington slipped and Davis caught an easy touchdown over our heads."

Tulane had several scoring opportunities during the game that ended in turnovers. TE Joel Bowers' fumble just before he crossed the goal line with 8:10 remaining cost the team a golden scoring opportunity. High was also intercepted near the goal line in the third quarter by Arkansas CB Wendell Parker, who snagged two interceptions on the day. Tulane finished 3 of 5 in the red zone, with the two missed scoring opportunities basically costing them the game.

"When you're on the road, in the snow, playing against a great team like Arkansas you have to do all of the little things correctly and never leave points on the field," said Geezy.

High, who like Moore was coming back from a torn pectoral injury, one he suffered three weeks ago during the team's 48-28 win over Kentucky, finished 24 of 39 for a season-high 428 yards and 3 touchdown passes. His main target was freshman WR Herbie Smith. Smith, a 4-star recruit this past off-season, had by far his best performance of his rookie season, catching 4 passes for 193 yards and 2 touchdowns.

"At the end of the day, this game came down to two things - 1.) Our inability to stop their passing game and 2.) Our offense leaving points on the field," said Geezy.

"We played a heck of a game offensively and I cannot say enough about Anthony and Reggie gutting this one out in their first games back from injury. But at the end of the day, we needed to make more plays as a team on both sides of the ball. That didn't happen, and it has cost us."

Tulane (9-1, 6-1) will host Ole Miss (6-5, 3-4) next week at the Louisiana Superdome. Tulane, who has won 12 straight home games dating back to the 2013 season, defeated Ole Miss 35-19 last season in Oxford.

All but out of the national title race, in order to secure an SEC Championship game berth, the Green Wave would need to beat the Rebels while also hoping that Arkansas falls next week to #19 LSU (7-4) at Baton Rouge.

Arkansas QB Bobby Robinson completes the game-winning 25-yard touchdown pass to WR Brian Davis on the first possession of the 2nd overtime period. The scoring toss was Robinson's 5th touchdown pass of the game.

You're right; I thought at worst we'd move down to 5th. We still have time to make up the deficit. We'll need a lot help though.

Those red zone turnovers were killers. In a close game like that one, you can't afford to leave points on the field.

Looks that way. We still have time left but at this point, the best we can hope for is a BCS berth (hopefully a Sugar Bowl berth if we can get some help from our rival LSU).

I had the angle on the goal line and I hate to say it but I think I got a little lazy for a split second on the sticks. I tried to go for the dramatic dive into the end zone once I saw it was open rather than clicking up the the RS to put my players' head down to truck on in. The moment I hit the dive button, my guy was caught.

Here's hoping it works out for you in the SEC West and you can get a shot at the SEC title and the Sugar Bowl. You're still in the top 8 so you should get an at-large birth. If you fall below that though...well...Tampa isn't a bad bowl destination
Making it to a BCS bowl is one of my goals so Tampa would be a disappointment at this point.

I really hope LSU/the sim gods can pull a favor for us and get us in position to play in the SEC Championship. It sucks not controlling your own destiny after such a great year.

Hell of a game -- OT, in the snow, division on the line. Too bad it ended the way it did!
It was certainly a memorable game; It was one of those rare video football games that I will probably remember years from now in detail. Like you said, it sucks that it had such a bad ending but this game wouldn't be much fun if I won every single game like that.

The pass defense also looked pretty bad but hopefully some of that blame can be placed on the weather. Time to bounce back here against Ole Miss. I think LSU has a pretty good shot at helping you out and taking down Arkansas.
I hope you're right. They're ranked #19 and at home so I think they have a pretty decent shot. It is a big rivalry game for them. I am anxious to see how this final week plays out!

I have to admit, when I lined up, my plan was to try to draw them offsides and quickly snap the ball to get a free play in. They didn't jump, but I ended up liking the defensive alignment versus the play I had called so I snapped it and the rest is history.

                                Editors Note

As most of you know, for Tulane to get into the SEC Championship game, I must beat Ole Miss and hope LSU beats Arkansas. I have never been one to cheat as that would take most of the fun out of the game but just so that all the readers know, this is my plan on how I am going to handle the upcoming pivotal Arkansas-LSU simulation:

I am going to play my game against Ole Miss tonight, exit the game, then advance a week without looking at the scores. I will then save the file as normal, overwriting the previously saved file (with me still not knowing the outcome of the Arkansas-LSU game).

This way, I have to live with whatever results the sim gods hand down and I have absolutely no option to go back and cheat (not that I would anyway).
