My philosophy is vastly different then how you set your defensive settings and like you, I am far from frustrated most times when I play this game on SS/SIM (11 minute quarters).

I customize my defensive settings for each and every player. Yes, it is timely but I do not want to play moderate off-ball on Steph, Klay, Middleton, Redick, CP3, or even Jimmy Butler for that matter. I deny pure shooters and utilize my POE, which is where a lot of back-door cuts can be prevented.

Set your POE to protect the paint (never limit perimeter or they'll hug shooters and gape you with cuts all day), and neutral or conservative AND customize your defensive settings for all players and I have great success most times.

You will see your CPU react similar to how the CPU will steal your silly interior passes AS LONG AS YOU PLAY GOOD on-ball defense and they don't feel the need to help with the player your defending. They will tip and steal passes for days, so I never leave my POE defensive settings to auto.

Also, I love the pre-rotate defensive setting at the very bottom. I utilize it for most bigs and rare exceptions of 2 and 3 guards who will attack the basket off of screens like Kawhi and Lebron. This is so important to have your defense prepared for the interior pass that you know is coming.

Thirdly, one of my favorite features is to double team off of a none-threat AND pre-rotate. Example, if Steph is killing me and Bogut is on the court just for the rebound and defending purposes. I'll tap L1 and press Bogut's icon and my center will come to double and pre-rotate to Bogut as we get the ball out of Steph's hands.

The double when you hold L1 is not intelligent BUT if you icon double team, it is glorious and works wonders as long as you have your defensive settings in line. I'm also gapping Bogut for off-ball and forcing him to shoot the rock instead of Klay or Steph.

With that being said, you will still see your center drift under the basket for a free bucket to the CPU every once in a while. Nevertheless you can almost see/feel it coming. The CPU PG slows it down and your center is in dunce land while the opposing center is sprinting down the lane. Click on him, vertical contest and stop that cheese play that comes once or twice a game.

If you take the time to understand the opposing teams strengths and weaknesses, you can hold teams to under 45% and under 100 points/game. Icon double teaming, pre-rotate and tailor your defensive settings to a player's strengths and weaknesses and 2K16 plays a clean game of ball more often than not.
what exactly does pre-rotate do? how do i use it? i don't want defenders to come off of their shooters? however, i dont want to play tight or deny or a lot of offensive players...
