Re: Playing Defense

I don't know what's the criteria the CPU decides to double team or not but despite the DT on auto there were games in which a particular opposing player has destroyed me and the CPU has never doubled throughout the game.....and yes, as someone said on this forum the game is pre-determined, there are times when it is written that the CPU has to recover and there is nothing you can do to stop it. In some games where I was winning by twenty points early in the fourth quarter, the CPU was able to score 90% from the field, non matter if i call timeouts, slow down the tempo or protect the paint. Sad but true...

disagree with this. I used to get big leads and the cpu would come back and win. But Ive been able to remedy this.
Ive been able to sustain leads. IF Im up by 20, the cpu does make a run, but I squash it now.
you've mentioned everything except your lineups.
Im just mindful of my lineups that gave me the big lead. and if the cpu team makes a run, Ill keep them in despite fatigue just to maintain the lead.

also you have to make individual defensive adjustments on what ever player is keying the comeback.

its best to call the double team manually or set it on what ever player you want doubled. the auto double team-I dont think that works as intended. auto might as well mean off.

and what's your remedy when cpu players begin to score in the paint no matter what? or when they drop 3s with 4 hands in their face?

weather the storm. it happens Ive had teams come back on me. seriously stay within your comfort zone. dont let the cpu controlled team get you out your comfort zone.

sometimes that involves running isolation plays and just milking the shot clock down before you take a shot.
Ive never had a team rain threes on me with any consistency like youve mentioned.
but I would say for the hot shooters set the defense to off ball deny, off ball screens go under on ball screens go over.

tril said it all. to add on, the team will always attempt a comeback aggressively. we just need to ensure defensively and offensively we are ready for it. adjust yor gameplan.
i just had a 36 pt lead entering the 4th last night. manage to sustain it with the second unit and i spent the garbage time trying out different new plays. Lol
do u have one or 2 go-to play move?

i posted this question in the "how do you" thread with no results, can someone explain me how do you shade a player forcing him to go in the direction you want???

i'm not 100% sure as i asked this before too. what i'll normally do is use the left stick and move my onball defender to either side of the ball handler then hold the left trigger, and adjust by continue holding it and flicking the left stick. i also find myself having the tendency to shade from the middle forcing the ball handler to drive towards sideline or baseline. i have also set "baseline" in my defensive setting too so perhaps that helps.
see if it works for u.

My philosophy is vastly different then how you set your defensive settings and like you, I am far from frustrated most times when I play this game on SS/SIM (11 minute quarters).

I customize my defensive settings for each and every player. Yes, it is timely but I do not want to play moderate off-ball on Steph, Klay, Middleton, Redick, CP3, or even Jimmy Butler for that matter. I deny pure shooters and utilize my POE, which is where a lot of back-door cuts can be prevented.

Set your POE to protect the paint (never limit perimeter or they'll hug shooters and gape you with cuts all day), and neutral or conservative AND customize your defensive settings for all players and I have great success most times.

You will see your CPU react similar to how the CPU will steal your silly interior passes AS LONG AS YOU PLAY GOOD on-ball defense and they don't feel the need to help with the player your defending. They will tip and steal passes for days, so I never leave my POE defensive settings to auto.

Also, I love the pre-rotate defensive setting at the very bottom. I utilize it for most bigs and rare exceptions of 2 and 3 guards who will attack the basket off of screens like Kawhi and Lebron. This is so important to have your defense prepared for the interior pass that you know is coming.

Thirdly, one of my favorite features is to double team off of a none-threat AND pre-rotate. Example, if Steph is killing me and Bogut is on the court just for the rebound and defending purposes. I'll tap L1 and press Bogut's icon and my center will come to double and pre-rotate to Bogut as we get the ball out of Steph's hands.

The double when you hold L1 is not intelligent BUT if you icon double team, it is glorious and works wonders as long as you have your defensive settings in line. I'm also gapping Bogut for off-ball and forcing him to shoot the rock instead of Klay or Steph.

With that being said, you will still see your center drift under the basket for a free bucket to the CPU every once in a while. Nevertheless you can almost see/feel it coming. The CPU PG slows it down and your center is in dunce land while the opposing center is sprinting down the lane. Click on him, vertical contest and stop that cheese play that comes once or twice a game.

If you take the time to understand the opposing teams strengths and weaknesses, you can hold teams to under 45% and under 100 points/game. Icon double teaming, pre-rotate and tailor your defensive settings to a player's strengths and weaknesses and 2K16 plays a clean game of ball more often than not.
what exactly does pre-rotate do? how do i use it? i don't want defenders to come off of their shooters? however, i dont want to play tight or deny or a lot of offensive players...
